President Donald Trump is expected to experience an even sharper mental decline as a result of the 2026 midterm elections not panning out in his favor, an expert warns. His rhetoric is expected to become even more erratic and potentially dangerous, so says clinical psychologist Vincent Greenwood, as Trump grapples with such a major loss and the potential fallout that could signal his political downfall.

“I’m worried, frankly,” Greenwood, the director of the Washington Center for Cognitive Therapy, told the Daily Beast. “I’m afraid we can count on his impulsive nature. I’m afraid we can count on his remorselessness.”

Greenwood has conducted more than 1,700 psychological evaluations thus far in his analysis of Trump. According to his diagnosis, Trump is a clinical psychopath whose personality is characterized by three particularly destructive traits: impulsivity, remorselessness, and an intense drive to dominate.

Greenwood says Trump is most concerned with his “loss of status,” more than anything, which could trigger him to become even more enraged and act out. “It’s just not in his psychological makeup to reflect on his own possible mistakes or fallibilities,” Greenwood said. “Most of us might feel humiliation or shame, but the clinical psychopath is absent from those feelings. He’s hardwired to blame others.”

Trump’s own inner circle have also begun changing their narrative as the GOP realizes it may be in their best efforts to sustain their own positions. His family members are also warning about his potential outbursts, with his nephew, Fred Trump III, alleging in a recent post to X that his uncle will unleash his wrath on White House staffers. “Take it from me folks, cause I have been there,” Fred III wrote on X. “I pity the poor b—— near my uncle tonight.” Fred also hashtagged the post “democracy” and tagged Trump’s former communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, who lasted just 11 days in the role. Scaramucci’s firing came amid ongoing conflict and public outbursts - some of his comments he felt were off the record when speaking with journalists. Scaramucci also had a direct clash with Trump.

In a historic political upset, Democrats seized control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections. Despite polls signaling trouble for Republicans and mounting warnings about Trump’s political standing, the president reportedly ignored the signs and was blindsided by the results.

Fred III’s rant on X continued. He also mentioned that his father, Donald Trump’s uncle Fred Trump Jr., taught him to be everything the president is not. “As I take all of this in, I think of my parents and how they taught me to be an empathetic and caring young man. My dad, the original ‘good Trump’, who passed too early, would, by example, root and fight for the underdog, those who needed a little push to realize a better and meaningful life,” he wrote. "This is the kind of country we need. In his memory, I will do my best to lead us in that direction. Let’s do it together.”
