Hunter Biden retains high-profile lawyer who represented Jared Kushner: report

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has hired one of Washington, D.C.'s high-profile lawyers who served as legal counsel for Jared Kushner during a number of key cases.
On Wednesday, December 21, Kevin Morris spoke with news outlets and confirmed Biden had retained Abbe Lowell to represent him, The Guardian reports.
“Hunter Biden has retained Abbe Lowell to help advise him and be part of his legal team to address the challenges he is facing,” Morris told outlets.
“Lowell is a well-known Washington-based attorney who has represented numerous public officials and high-profile people in Department of Justice investigations and trials as well as congressional investigations," Morris said. "[For Hunter Biden] Mr. Lowell will handle congressional investigations and general strategic advice.”
The high-profile lawyer has worked with figures on both sides of the political aisle. At one point, he also explained his experience as a trial lawyer saying, “you have to have a desire to be a performer at some level. If I hadn’t done this, it would have been Broadway.”
However, the publication notes that his representation of Kushner subsequently painted him in a negative light.
“The resulting news coverage, and especially the more sensational headlines, triggered the all-too-common flurry of hate mail, threatening voice mails and anonymous criticisms for doing the very job that attorneys are supposed to do," the Guardian reports.
The latest developments centering around Hunter Biden follow threats from Republican lawmakers as they prepare to take over the House of Representatives in January. Per the news outlet, the president's son is facing a "federal investigation over his tax affairs and personal issues including problems with drugs that have been widely documented, including in his own memoir."
However, Hunter Biden insists he has “handled [his] affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisers."
