The speed at which Trump has lost support is breathtaking — and making him more dangerous

I want to pour you a shot of good news, with a stiff chaser.

It won’t wipe away all your troubles, but it might make you feel warm and fuzzy for about 30 minutes — maybe longer if you just allow yourself to go with the buzz …

(BARTENDER’S TIP: Allow yourself to go with the buzz. It’s been a hard damn decade.)

All’s not well in MAGA land, my friends.

It seems there are hardcore members of the most destructive cult in American history, who believe their fearful, orange leader is outdoing himself in the Department of B-------, as he undoes our democracy.

It’s actually starting to look like Donald Trump can go too far for at least a few of his ardent supporters, who have been known to see homegrown terrorists stomping on police officers and destroying our Capitol as “tourists,” and view the poisoning of our air and water as “healthy.”

The list of terrible things these morally busted people have endorsed by helping elect this garbage can of a man, is longer than a summer day in Alaska, but might not be limitless.

It could be there are actually lines they prefer not to be crossed — even by their vulgar idol, who has done the heroic work of battering our government, our benefits, and his spineless party into submission.

In the past week, I have heard from two old friends in the business community here in Madison, Wisconsin, and in my hometown haunts of New Jersey.

These gents deal with a lot of MAGA bros in their day-to-day work, which takes them deep inside the American staples of sales and finance. They interact with these people because they have mountains of patience, and those dreaded bills to pay. Like myself, they are both old-to-middle-aged white men, and as such have been afforded a lifetime of privilege to do just about anything they want in America (including attack it) without any serious ramifications.

Here’s one of those messages I received:

“I’ve had a couple of MAGA folks confide in me the last couple of weeks that they are officially off the Trump train. It seems like based on the posturing that’s happening and his recent losses that they will be cannibalizing him soon.”

He cited Epstein, the “Kash/Bongino obvious lying” and the “pro-billionaire s----” as some of the reasons for their sudden discontent with the orange and appalling man, as well as their desire to be more public with their upset.

Another message I received said this, among a lot of other “stuff”:

“He’s losing MAGA. This is not what they voted for, and the Epstein stuff is killing him. I’m telling you, he’s in trouble.”

Reports like this are hardly scientific, but they are meaningful, and the numbers back them up. Trump’s approval ratings are at historic lows for a president (and I use that term loosely) in his first year in office, where honeymoon periods, and “benefit of the doubts” can extend well into a second or third season.

The speed in which Trump has lost support is breathtaking.

Recent election results that have gone heavily Democratic, and some skirmishes in the Republican ranks point to a presidency that is beginning to wear thin on the majority of America, including more than a few of his once loyal foot soldiers.

Look, I’m not even remotely insinuating we are out of danger here. In fact, if there is any validity to the growing anti-Trump movement in the Republican ranks, and I think there is, Trump will only become more unhinged and dangerous, as the golden walls close in around him, and he becomes more isolated.

He will lash out like a snot-nosed baby with a loaded machine gun, and before he is through, the January 6th insurrection will look like a minor skirmish.

The rest of one of the above messages from my buddy, reads like this:

“Hopefully this doesn't lead to some wild outburst when he (Trump) realizes this is happening (his cratering support), but it most certainly will ...”

Yes it will.

One morning this week, he rolled out of his steel-enforced rack, grabbed his nuclear-powered cell phone and went into full, unhinged, bro-mode by launching this beauty on his state-run social media channel.

This is the President of the United States of America at work on a Monday morning.

And let me answer your question, before finishing up:

“No, I don’t know how ANYBODY can support this grotesque, unhinged thug ...”

We’ll never survive three more years of this madness, and I have been of the opinion that Trump and his failing physical and mental health likely won’t either.

Rather than bet on the natural order of things, though, we are better off cautiously hoping that enough people in his revolting base will start to pull the plug on this failed regime, which will help release some of the hot air in a country that is ready to blow sky-high.

It’s worth keeping on eye on Republicans in Congress as we swing into the midterms and they hear from angry constituents who are fed up with Trump and his billionaires’ money-grab, while their costs increase and they discover they are literally paying for this authoritarian takeover.

We must continue to fight like never before, while expecting the absolute worst from a maniac, who has the singular talent of always going lower.

We still have a long road ahead of us, my friends, but for just today, why not pull off to the side of that road, and enjoy the buzz?

The only way for Democrats to win in 2026

Today, I will be typing to you with fire, and helping you deal with the excess hell that is being hand-delivered to us daily by the most lawless, bigoted, corrupt, heartless collection of sub-humans in American history.

I bring you those loaded words, and wonder if I still have somehow underestimated the revolting Republican Party.

I know that you are the true patriots in America who have the guts to pay attention, and then pay a terrible mental price for it. I know that you are the people who can be counted on to rush to the latest political fire, and if necessary use your bare hands to put it out.

I know that you are the people who deserve better than what you are getting both from the party you stand and fight for, and from the one that so obviously and consistently stands against Americans.

Every damn hour we are under steady assault by a repugnant collection of Republican, subservient thugs — a cult of knuckle-dragging hyenas — which are fronted by a gruesome man, who is so completely dead inside, the bile is starting to ooze out of him leaving bandaged hands, swollen ankles, and burnt-orange puddles wherever he was last seen sleeping in public.

The sickly Donald Trump does not have much time left, but then neither does the United States of America.

In fact, the only thing we have in common with this grotesque, abusive monster is that we are all locked in a battle for our survival.

Who’s going to die first? Our country or Trump?

There isn’t a single thing the bought-off Trump, aided by his subservient cult, won't do to end us, as he strangles a never-ending list of enemies, chokes the life out of America, and pockets millions and millions of dollars before he finally takes his last breath.

Our health care, food security, and clean air and water are all under steady assault. Our safety nets are gleefully being pulled from underneath us by lifeless billionaires who can never get enough. Our vote and humans rights are being incinerated. Prices are going up, and a lawless, bought-off conservative Supreme Court is doing everything in its seemingly unlimited power to drag us down.

Our military is being perverted into a partisan tool, and we are steaming toward the breaking point where it will be necessary to ask whether they are with us, or against us.

Trump will not stop until he is convinced he can snap his fat little fingers, and his military will do his heinous bidding. That’s what this is all about, because that is what this was always going to be about when he seized power last year.

This is a takeover, and an attack on a fragile democracy that has survived for centuries, but only because it could trust its president and courts not to unify with the odious intent of dismantling it.

Authoritarianism isn’t some fictional thing, people, it is A THING, and it is happening right in front of our tired eyes.

It is the laziest, most oppressive political system known to man, because it isn’t fueled by enlightenment or better ideas. No, instead it is all about the control by the few over the many, and rammed down our throats with brute force whether we like it or not.

It marches to the monotonous, banging drum of nonstop, state-run propaganda that props up evil, subservient agents in places like our Pentagon, Justice Department, the FBI, and that blasted court ...

You know what I am bringing to you this morning is true, because you have the audacity to pay attention. If you are reading this all-too-sober accounting of our current state, you can plainly see it, feel it, and most importantly: are wondering just what in the hell we are supposed to do about it.

Because if this is our reality, shouldn’t we all be sounding the alarms every chance we get, and supporting each other as we do the work to save the United States of America from itself?

I have great faith in you, dear reader. You give me strength simply by knowing you are out there. By God, there are millions of us, and we are our only chance to put this attack down, and save America.

So now an important question: Do you think the leadership in the Democratic Party is taking all this as seriously as you are?

If you are, we are done for the day. I wish you strength and peace of mind ...

Most of you will know that I am not a party man, because my work as a journalist prevented it, and because after observing political parties and their politicians closely, I trust most of them only as far as I can throw them with my old, tired left arm.

While we the people are fretting, and screaming, and voting, and marching, and hollering, and devouring all the warnings like this one, the leadership of the party we have assigned to save us, is at best badly misreading situation, or at worst, accepting too many horrible realities by the hour, that when piled atop each other will ultimately bury us — and most likely sooner than later.

Right now, like it or not — and man, I absolutely hate it — we are being asked to make the best of our tragic situation in America, while a trio of inaction figures spend the better part of each day rubbing the sleep from their eyes, and reacting instead of taking our righteous fight to the people 24/7.

How is it Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries and Ken Martin have been assigned to lead the Democratic Party in this historic hour of vital resistance?

Why are we STILL accepting this?

Isn’t it clear by now that time and again they have let us down since last year’s horrible elections? Isn’t it clear by now they have proven they are simply incapable of rising up to meet this dire situation?

Look, I don’t hate these men. I don’t even dislike them. I thank them for their service.

But now it’s time they return to the important ranks of the foot soldiers and backbenchers, because they are NOT leaders.

The irony is, we were always invariably going to be better off when we stopped with our absurd idolatry of politicians. It has been a weakness of the Democratic Party my entire professional lifetime, but that makes it no less a reality.

Here’s a fact: Most people simply don’t trust politicians, and that is actually a strength of a thriving Democracy. When one man or woman gains too much power we begin swerving toward what we fought to avoid more than 250 years ago.

Welcome to our current nightmare.

But since we are here, I will readily concede that occasionally, politicians can truly inspire. I have seen these rare folks and been sparked by them. Four come to mind in my lifetime: John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Michelle and Barack Obama.

In action and words, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) is my current favorite.

Lord knows, we have never needed inspiration more.

Schumer, Jeffries and Martin simply aren’t delivering it.

They have proven they lack the guts and talent to make our case to the American people. And making our case to the American people is what needs to be happening from sun up to sun down — from North Carolina to North Dakota — every single day.

We must grab the pulpit and shake it. We need to bring thunder to this war for our survival.

Tell me: When was the last time Schumer did that? As he ever done that?

Now tell me why Jeffries was siding with Trump earlier this week in the pardoning of Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), who was indicted by the Biden Justice Department on bribery and money-laundering charges. Just last month, Jeffries slammed Trump for being “completely and totally out of control” with these relentless, lawless pardons.

Does Jeffries mean what he says? Too many times I am not sure what the New York Congressman is thinking, and that has become a big, damn problem for such a public figure.

I won’t waste too much of my my breath on the Democratic National Committee (DNC), because its pretty clear they quit really giving a damn the minute they had all our phone numbers, and could just sit back and batter our cell phones with never-ending fundraising requests.

It’s still hard for me to reckon how Ben Wikler didn’t get that job, given what he did to help rescue the Wisconsin Democratic Party from the abyss the past decade or so.

Look, if you told me 13 month ago, coming off the most catastrophic election losses in America history, the Democratic Party wouldn’t change a thing with its Congressional and Senatorial leadership, I would have slapped some self-respect into you.

But here we are with black eyes, because any party that trots out the same losers to lead it after absorbing a thorough beating like the one we got last November can’t respect you if it can’t even be bothered to respect itself …

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING would energize the Left more than putting new, invigorating leadership in place. It would show the party listens, and believes in action, not just empty words. It would invite millions of people in, instead of stiff-arming them away with the same old bulls--- …

CHANGE.

Too many people don’t trust the party, because they don’t think it is listening to them. This simply has to be rectified, because we don’t have any time left.

If we don’t win big next year, we can kiss it all goodbye. There will be no more do-overs. We simply must do EVERYTHING we can to ensure we win.

So one more question before I go: Why do we expect so damn much from ourselves, and so damn little from our leadership?

Trump's unhinged cabinet gathering laid bare both his cognitive decline and contempt

On Tuesday, the President of the United States chaired a meeting of his busted cabinet that would have been impossible to believe just 10 years ago. I had no intention of watching this North Korea-like, state-run propaganda, but once I’d bumped into it, I found I couldn't take my eyes off it.

It was a train wreck wrapped in a dumpster fire, and in a normal time and place would have ended this appalling presidency.

Who could watch even five minutes of that tragedy without knowing that it simply had to be cancelled? Who could watch a man who is so obviously rotting from the inside out, and not flag the absurdity and danger of it all?

Those questions are chiefly for you, corporate media. But more on you in a moment …

Whatever was happening inside that room was not normal, and it certainly isn’t working.

The 142-year-old 79-year-old Donald Trump was adorned in a pink tie and stuffed in a white shirt and dark jacket that clashed badly with his burnt-orange face and the straw-colored wig puffed over his wrinkled head just so. When does he decide that this is the preposterous costume he wants to wear on a given day?

“Less combover, more fluff … A little less brown, and more white around the eyes … More orange in the cheeks, less around the chin … Hand me that pink tie …”

He looks absolutely ridiculous.

In the meeting, he did everything he could to stay awake, his head bobbing up and down and side to side. He pawed at his orange face as he drifted off to the fairways of Mar-a-Lago. It was hard to tell if he'd skipped one of the drug cocktails he pounds throughout the day, or just had one too many in anticipation of his big meeting with his crooked staff.

While he fought sleep, his grotesque collection of anti-vaxxers, stone-cold bigots, crooks, and multi-millionaires and billionaires showered him with praise for the stellar job he is doing heaping all his hate on the world, while stuffing his bottomless pockets with millions and millions in kickbacks and blood money.

One of them, the racist, puppy-shooting Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, preposterously thanked him for keeping the hurricanes away from the United States this year.

This kind of absurd praise would normally get an affirmative rise from Sleepy Rider.

Not this time.

No, this time Trump was barely alive, almost unresponsive to the sort of firehose of putrid adulation that used to inject him with life.

I’m really not sure whether to laugh or cry at this theater of the completely absurd — but I’m pretty sure indifference can’t be a viable option.

A drunk is at the wheel and for some horrible reason nobody is taking away his keys.

On Tuesday, after the praise finally stopped, the media was semi-free to ask this wreck of a man and his gathered assemblage of dangerous clowns questions about the abomination they just witnessed.

Except not one of these so-called journalists asked the most obvious question:

“Do you demand that these people ridiculously fawn over you like some tin-pot dictator, and shower you with this disgusting praise, or do they actually lower themselves into your trash can, and just stink up the entire place on their own?”

Instead, the assembled press ignored the fire that was burning out of control inside that room, and addressed a few of the myriad blazes that have been gleefully started by these arsonists outside the room.

Then, Trump finally rose to the bizarre occasion — triggered by a press he has spent a lifetime both needing and hating.

Scratching the sleep from his puffy eyes, he sat up in full harrumph. You could almost see the hate pouring from his chapped, pursed lips. Even his chubby, little hands were doing that weird accordion thing, as he holds everything and everybody in contempt.

He woke up in a bad mood.

He attacked Somalis, saying, “I don’t want them in our country.”

He doubled down: “We’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country.”

He tripled down, calling Rep Ilhan Omar (D-MN) “garbage.”

In full attack mode, the bile rising up out of him, he relieved his pain by inflicting it on anything or anybody that came across his short-circuiting mind:

“Countries were ripping us off for years, including allies. I won’t use the names. I won’t mention Japan. I will refuse to mention South Korea. I will not mention names.”

Of course, even when he is seeing red, and raging like a complete maniac, he never mentions names like Russia and Saudi Arabia in this context.

Such control …

Look, it’s sickening when he gets like this, but sicker yet that nobody points it out. He’s crashing, and intent on making sure everybody else goes up in smoke.

We can’t go on like this.

Finally, Trump addressed his obviously failing health, and never-ending “perfect” visits to the doctor, as only he can:

“I took my physical. I got all As. Everything. But they [the doctors] said to me, ‘Would you like to take a cognitive test?’ So I said, ‘Is it hard?’ And they said, ‘Yes.’ So I said, ‘Well, I’m a very smart person. Who was the last president to take one?’ So they said, ‘No president has ever agreed to take one’ ... I aced it.”

Nobody said a word.

The demented voices inside the man’s fat, orange head were doing all the talking …

Why I'm done being silent about Trump's supporters

I have cut back on the time I spend on social media since last year’s terrible elections. It might be the only good that’s come from one of the worst days in American history.

A once thriving Twitter account is now dead and buried. I simply can’t be anywhere the ghastly Elon Musk and his phony hate-mongers. The place is an overflowing trashcan full of so many lies, and awful things, it’s a wonder it hasn’t self-combusted.

These days, I kick around Bluesky, and Substack’s Notes when I feel like I need to get something off my chest in a hurry.

Last week, white people’s support for Donald Trump and his revolting Republican Party was eating away at me as it often does, so I let go the this blast:

The very direct point, of course, was that without white people, there’d be no President Trump.

“Most white people” got that point, but too many didn’t for my taste, and were indignant that I would type such a thing. Many white commenters made it clear that they didn't vote for Trump, and/or scolded me for scapegoating them.

Here’s a few examples:

“Wow. What a massive generalization. Lots of brown and black people voted for him too but it’s really irrelevant because it’s not a race thing. It’s a stupid thing. There are lots of dumb people in this country who have zero critical thinking skills. That’s the problem. Not all the bad white people.”
“Uh, I don’t know where you got your stats from … but I’m not so sure. Certainly not this white person …”
“It is not most white people. It’s a select few f------ idiots.”

Thankfully, more got it, than didn’t. This one wins a trophy:

“As white people who *personally* did not vote for him, let’s acknowledge that OUR DEMOGRAPHIC did vote for him. The collective “We” must OWN that, and work harder to engage those who voted for him, or who didn’t vote at all.”

Listen to me: You don’t get credit for simply doing the right thing by not voting for a bigot. It’s the very least that should be expected of you. Voting against a vulgar racist like Trump should be as easy and reflexive as putting on a warm jacket to ward off the bitter cold.

The terrible fact is that in all three elections that the appalling Trump was on the ballot, a majority (most) of white people in America voted for him.

Is everybody a racist who supports Trump? Maybe not, but everybody who did vote for him is a hardcore racist, or best case, ignored his long history of hate, to knowingly put a racist in our White House.

Many of these morally bankrupt people are probably some of your friends and family, or in my case, and as I made clear, ex-friends and family.

Here’s the breakdown of the last three presidential elections from the Pew Research Center. I am not sure why the 2016 numbers are incomplete, but you’ll want to concentrate on the white men and white women columns.

In all three elections that Trump was on the ballot, “most” white men and women voted for him. Hence, my post above.

Now that you’ve had a chance to look at these dreadful numbers, let’s also acknowledge that America mostly has a terrible white man problem, and that there is still a mountain of work to do scouring out the terrible misogyny that still pervades too many households, workplaces and the current White House.

Misogyny goes hand in hand with racism, and is a destructive disease eating away at millions of weak, impressionable minds.

This past week or so alone, Trump, who is rotting from the inside out right in front of our eyes, has called female reporters, “Piggy” and “stupid, horrible and ugly.” This follows a long pattern over his morbid lifetime of disparaging women, and mostly their appearance.

HE, an orange mess of a man, who tapes a dead ferret to his head each morning, is mocking other people’s looks.

But back to the eyesore of a graphic above …

Please take a hard look what Black voters did. I have typed before, and will type until my last breath, that they are America’s true patriots, and the only voting bloc that overwhelmingly and consistently gets it right.

I make it a point of walking in their shoes and at least trying to see things through their eyes whenever I can. How incredibly sad it must be to see white people fail so catastrophically at the polls each year, by electing lowlifes who see white supremacy in America as a virtue, instead of a plague.

I try to imagine how many people would have been shot dead on the spot Jan. 6, 2021, if Black people had dared attack our Capitol and beat and stomped law enforcement officials into the curb, as all those lawless, violent white people did on one of America’s darkest days.

Would Trump have told these thugs that he loved them after that horrific day?

It defies logic that anybody could have watched what happened at our Capitol, and what has happened to the criminals who attacked us since, and not see the rampant, odious white privilege in this country.

I try to imagine how Black people must feel as schools, universities, and corporations recklessly abandoned their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts in the terrible wake of Trump’s win last year.

These important initiatives, many, decades in the making, now lay in the rubble because of the weak, submissive white people, who either never believed in what they were doing, or worse, are too cowardice to stand up for what is most certainly good … and right … and FAIR.

Because DEI has never once been about favoritism, it is about fairness. If you think Black people have gotten a fair shake in this country, then in addition to your bout with bigotry, you have a terrible case of lying to yourself.

As a white man, who has had every advantage in life, I will not stop hammering these points home. I will not surrender to bigots like Trump, and the horrible people who support him, and like the commenter said above, will “work harder to engage those who voted for him, or who didn’t vote at all.”

This is my core issue — the one that courses through my veins and gives my life real meaning.

I cannot think of men like Martin Luther King Jr. or John Lewis without getting a lump in my throat. These were giants, who endured beatings and even death to take America to a better place. We honor them, by standing on their broad shoulders and rising ever higher.

I will continue to speak up about racial equity, and down against people who do everything possible to prevent it. I will never stop talking about it, because that is exactly what these racists want.

Everything must be done to eradicate racism in America, because until it is dead and gone, we can never dare to say or believe that all men and women are created equal.

Right now, that is simply another lie, and shame on us for not doing everything in our power as caring humans beings to finally correct it.

Why I despise Trump supporters for enabling this hell

I'm not writing to you today about all the things I am thankful for as our 2025 holiday season visits us, because I am too damn busy with what makes me furious to type otherwise.

We are a country at war against fascism, and its racist, evil residue. We are at war against a dark, lawless, centralized force that does not believe all men and women are created equal, and do the bidding of soulless billionaires who fund all this hell to pad their absurd fortunes.

You can say I don’t have my priorities straight, and in return I will do you the courtesy of suggesting you quit reading now, to save you your precious time. Hopefully, we can catch up again next week.

To the brave who have stayed, I will endeavor to put down words of molten steel that do you justice, and send my gratitude for your heart and soul. You are what is needed in abundance right now as we stare down the most dangerous time in America since the 1860s.

So thank you for your fight.

I have always loved the notion of Thanksgiving and hope to celebrate it with vigor again someday. It was a time for friends, food, football and family. It was a break from school, and later the chaos of working a 50-hour-a-week job, that never seemed to love me as much as I loved it. Journalism always called, and I always listened, but Thanksgiving was my day to try to tune it all out.

Now I refuse to tune anything out, because there is danger everywhere. It is in our streets and in our homes. In our churches and our government. In our workplaces and in our personal business.

This Thanksgiving, I did not invite anybody into my home who I know supports the grotesque, anti-American Donald Trump, nor did I accept any invitation to be anyplace where I might find people who do.

And you can save the high-minded, snooty lecturing that goes something like this: “Come on, Earl, can’t you just let it go one day, and drop the politics?”

No. No I can’t. And I don’t understand how anybody can. We aren’t dealing with a difference of politics in 2025 America, we are dealing with a difference in human decency and monstrous vulgarity.

Democracy vs. monarchy.

I have my lines, and I won’t be crossing them. Ever.

Besides, I don’t trust myself not to haul off and belt a Trump supporter at some gathering, because I unabashedly hate these people and the tiny, no-good things they stand for with a blistering rage. I hate them for enabling this hell, and the hurt they are unnecessarily bringing to millions of lives here and around the world.

They are heartless, thoughtless bullies, who only look after themselves, because they are too weak in mind and body to carry anything else besides what they stuff in their big mouths and bottomless pockets.

Look, I tried for the better part of eight years to reason with these people, but I’m done with that. Old friendships, are now dead and gone. If Trump appeals to you, then you’ll want no part of me, because it turns out we have nothing in common.

You go your way, and just keep on going …

Our democracy is hanging by a thread, and I will not surround myself with people who make excuses for racists, and make it harder, not easier, for people to feed themselves, clothe themselves, and get the medical care they deserve.

And I have lost every inch of patience I might have had in the reserve for the selfish and willingly ignorant who don’t have the decency to care either way. They are the ones who really fry my ass.

You know the type. They’ll tell you how tired of it all they are, and that they have enough problems in their lives without having to deal with the rest.

How nice for them that they can concentrate only on themselves at the expense of the millions who are less fortunate. Turns out, they are the reason we are here, and how Nazi Germany happened so many decades ago.

Indifference is nothing but appeasement wrapped in a suffocating cloak of willing ignorance. It’s weak, and lifeless.

Believe me, I wish more than anything it wasn’t this way. I wish I could wake up and sit down with my cup of coffee, devour my newspapers, and then write about beautiful things. I know they are out there, and I endeavor to be among them whenever possible. But these days I see these things as needing our protection from bloodthirsty Republican politicians, and the corporate raiders who fill their overflowing bank accounts, who are coming after them.

Our air, our water and our animals are all under steady attack by these corporate heathens who worship guns, and killing above all, and then have the gall to tell us how important life is.

Just this week, it was announced Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency will be abandoning air pollution rules that save thousands of lives a year. What kind of sick ghoul would support such a thing? Hundreds of thousands of children with asthma will now be at risk, because some fat cat loser believes in profits over breath.

As I climb toward the end of my life, I want it known that I stood for what is good and right — on Thanksgiving and every day. I want it known that I stood for an America that I served in the Navy back in the ‘70s when we knew oppressive places like fascist Russia were the enemy, instead of the strong arms of the cowardice Republican Party.

I want it known I stood for voting rights, equal rights, and women’s rights.

I want it known I stood for our environment and its air, water and wildlife that make life truly worth living.

I want it known I stood for democracy and against fascism.

I want it known that if you can’t stand for at least this much then you are my enemy, not my friend, and I will work tirelessly to defeat you and your morbid kind.

Because if these anti-American fascists will come after a patriot’s patriot like Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), they’ll damn sure come after us.

They are desperate, have no ideas for improving America, and stand with a woman-abusing, draft-dodging, America-attacking goon, who is rotting from the inside out.

They must be stopped, because they are traitors. All of 'em.

This might not be the message you wanted to read as we steam through the holidays, but I am mad and indignant. I am giving more than I get.

I am not standing for this s---.

We beat this rotten son of a bitch fair and square once, and then didn't do all we could to make sure he stayed beaten. I am furious about this, and will never let it go.

I’ll give plenty of thanks when he and his terrible kind are gone.

Until then, I will rage.

I will fight.

I will resist.

And I will never give up the ship.

Trump has lost his mind — and it's never coming back

This was always going to be one of the most dangerous junctures of Donald Trump’s godawful second term, though I admit it arrived a bit earlier than expected.

How would the dangerous, ill-bred lout, who’s never seen a lie he didn’t like, handle it when the truth about him and his failed policies were dragged into the unfiltered light of hundreds of sunny days for all of us to see?

How would the man who stalked America’s countryside last year, the grotesque billionaire Elon Musk in tow, bombastically floating empty promises and plenty of hate during his profitable, one-after-another hate rallies, handle it when he was found out?

How would the man who promised to release the list of Jeffrey Epstein’s vulgar cohorts deal with the blowback from many in his racist cult, when it was clear all he was really prepared to give them was yet another song and dance, instead of a list of the repugnant headliners behind these horrible assaults on our children.

How would the man handle it when his vile name was used by Democrats all over the map to warn against more of the poison he was dealing, while sweeping to landslide victories in places like New Jersey and Virginia in the first significants elections since America chose so spectacularly wrong a year earlier ...

Well, we got our answer last Thursday, when the unfit Trump took to his caustic, state-run social media channel and threatened to hang politicians who he doesn’t like.

It should matter little what set off this nuclear-powered temper tantrum from our sick king, only that he is now on the record making it clear just how far he is willing to go to quiet the opposition, as well as the dark, vindictive voices that are eating away at what’s left of his decaying brain.

He should be removed from office just as soon as possible, of course, but won’t be because he still has the corrupt, cowardly Republican Party and its mealy-mouthed sinners like House Speaker Mike Johnson under his fat little thumb.

Trump will kill to keep power, and now Johnson and his worthless party can never pretend otherwise.

Trump’s second term has been a bonfire catalyzed by greed, fear and retribution. The terrible man is governing this country in his horrid image. Rather than building, he is breaking. Rather than unifying, he is splitting. Rather than rising up, he is tearing down. Rather than helping the most needy among us, he is going out of his way to hurt them …

He doing all these horrid, vindictive things because he just wants to be loved, you see, and if we are all too stupid to get that, then he will use the enormous power his office grants him to shake us all until it hurts.

We will bend the knee, or else ...

Can’t we understand that he is demolishing the White House for our own good? Can’t we see he is fixing our health-care system, government, and decades-long global alliances by taking a sledgehammer to them first? Can’t we see that prices are actually lower, even though we the buyers can plainly see they are going up?

Trump is failing everywhere and is doing so in spectacular fashion.

When six of my fellow veterans in Congress produced a 90-second video, Don’t Give Up The Ship, reminding our troops that they are obligated to refuse illegal orders, the unhinged Trump wasted no time illustrating why this video was so necessary.

“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” Trump wrote in one post. And just to make sure his bloodlust was crystal clear to everybody he shared a different post, written by another person, that said: “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD!!”

This madman doesn’t belong in our White House. He belongs in a straitjacket.

I knew this day was coming last November, the minute the election was called for Trump in the wee hours of one of America’s darkest nights.

I wrote Warning Shot just two weeks later, because I understood that at some point things were going to get so bad for Trump that he was going to do what every murderous fascist of note has done before him, and hide behind the military for protection.

I’m not sure I have written anything that got more readership.

From that piece:

Once you understand that Trump will use his presidency and whatever is left of his miserable life to settle scores and return the favors of the crooked dictators, and slobbery weaklings in his political party, who helped put him back in office, you can better prepare for the hell that’s most assuredly coming.
By words and by deed it is clear as day that Trump has absolutely no respect for the United States of America he violently assaulted, nor our men and women who wear the uniform, because like any authoritarian leader he sees them as servants to him, and not our country.

I went on to explain:

Remember: Trump, and his Supreme Court see his power as absolute. There is NOTHING that applies, or restricts him from doing whatever the hell it is he thinks needs doing in the interest of national security, which as of January 20, 2025, will mean his security.

So now we are counting on our military not to obey unlawful orders and defend a Constitution their Commander in Chief could care less about. That’s a mighty big ask.

I quoted an official in the Pentagon at the time, who chillingly said this:

“Troops are compelled by law to disobey unlawful orders. But the question is what happens then — do we see resignations from senior military leaders? Or would they view that as abandoning their people?”

I hope everybody now understands why Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, a former C.I.A. analyst who served in Iraq, organized this important, timely video.

Slotkin was joined by Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO), Chris DeLuzio (D-PA), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ).

These patriots and public servants are staying true to their oaths, and their duty to warn. They have watched as Trump has bastardized our military this past year for his political gain. He has taken to our bases to sell his gross MAGA merchandise, and called out Democrats, including past presidents, by name. He has called on these troops to use our cities as their “training grounds.” He has belittled true heroes like John McCain, and disgraced Arlington National Cemetery more times than I can count.

He doesn’t know a single, damn thing about army values, navy values, or ANY values, because the only thing he truly values — the only thing he has EVER valued — is himself.

So now he has proven himself again to be dangerous as hell, as his regime fails on all fronts. He is now looking for others to pay for his mistakes, and there isn’t a single thing he won’t do, including kill opponents, to give himself the vindication he thinks he deserves.

He’s lost his mind, and it is never coming back.

I typed Warning Shot one year ago lat Wednesday. I ended it this way, and so I will again with this piece:

This is not a story of hope, my friends, but words of warning.

Like it or not, and as tired as we are, we must be vigilant and NEVER accept this as anything approaching normal in this country.

A repulsive coward who never had the guts to serve will do everything he can to get our armed forces to serve only him.

WE must be the resistance.

Trump is doing everything in his power to make sure Putin gets what he wants

Almost lost among Donald Trump’s latest assault on America, has been his utter disdain for our democracy, and love for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Amid Trump’s attack on our government, White House, health-care, food benefits, vote, the arts, environment, our economy, and peace and quiet, the Russia-Ukraine War has raged on.

Defying all odds, the Ukrainians and their gutsy, charismatic leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, have held off the once-feared Russian army for nearly four years. This should be celebrated as one the most inspirational events of a 21st Century that has been sorely lacking inspiration or good.

Putin and his vaunted army were supposed to cut through Ukraine like a knife through butter when they launched their attack on Feb. 24, 2022. When Putin’s army amassed on the Ukrainian border it was estimated by many experts that Ukraine would fall in mere hours.

Except that never happened because the Ukrainians proved themselves more feisty and prepared, and Russia weaker and more clumsy, than all these experts expected.

By the third day of fighting Zelenskyy was proving himself more than ready for what feeble Russia was bringing him, and produced a video watched my millions that turned down the United State’s invitation to evacuate him, saying:

“The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride!”

Something wonderful was happening on the eastern front, as a small, upstart and proud nation was smacking the murderous Putin and his army right in the mouth.

It was scary, thrilling and good news to everybody it seems except for Putin and his puppet, Trump, who wasted no time alerting the world to what side he was on, calling Putin’s attack, “savvy” and “genius.”

Just three days later, when he saw what was happening, as the valiant Ukrainians stood up to the bully, and “savvy genius,” Putin, the carnival-barking Trump changed his tone at a CPAC gathering in Florida, on February 27, 2022, and slobbered this:

“The Russian attack on Ukraine is appalling. We are praying for the proud people of Ukraine. God bless them all.”

After surviving this anti-democratic whiplash, instead of apologizing for his grotesque words praising Putin, Trump did what he always did, and has always done: He attacked the United States, and let Putin off the hook, saying:

“The real problem is that our leaders are dumb, dumb. So dumb.”

But Trump’s phony reversal, and attack on America, was only the subhead of that event in Florida, because he used that never-ending speech to hint loudly at another run for office by taking a swipe at America and its President, Joe Biden:

“As everyone understands, this horrific disaster would never have happened if our election was not rigged and if I was the president …”

He went on:

“In November 2024, Democrats will find out like never before. We did it twice, and we’ll do it again. We’re going to be doing it again, a third time.”

Here’s where I will always point out with precision and rage that this anti-American, no-good monster should have been on his way to rotting in jail by now for his attack on our country that had occurred just one year earlier, on Jan. 6, 2021. Except Attorney General Merrick Garland still hadn’t even laid a glove on the traitor, Trump, and allowed him to reclaim his hold over a party that had proven itself morally busted, and incapable of standing up against Trump or Putin, and for America.

Now four very painful years later, the proud Ukrainians are still holding off Russia, and Trump is still doing everything he can to make sure Russia prevails.

As I type this, Trump has rolled out a U.S. peace plan this is so absurd even the cowards who helped enable him in the Republican Party are speaking out against it, saying it is nothing but a Russian wish list.

Here is Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC):

“Putin is a murderer a rapist and an assassin. We should not do anything that makes him feel like he has a win here.”

Here is Sen. Mitch McConnell, (R-KY):

“If administration officials are more concerned with appeasing Putin than securing real peace, then the president ought to find new advisors.”

I am aware that both of these men are not seeking reelection, which is why you can be assured they are both finally telling the truth.

On Sunday, Trump was right back where he was four years ago, despite all the heroics of the Ukrainians since, blaming the United States, Ukraine and our allies for the attack, by blasting this out on his state-run social media channel:

“With strong and proper U.S. and Ukrainian LEADERSHIP, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would have NEVER HAPPENED.”

“UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA.”

Read that again, and try to tell me that Trump is not a traitor.

Not a single word of condemnation at the aggressor and murderer, Putin. Only disdain for America, Ukraine, and our NATO allies whose relationship over the decades has been forged in blood and honor.

Russia helped install Trump into office in 2016. We know this. In fact, nobody knows it better than his Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who chaired the Republican-led bipartisan committee who rendered these findings in August, 2020, which stated:

The Trump campaign’s interactions with Russian intelligence services during the 2016 presidential election posed a “grave” counterintelligence threat.

This is from a PBS story that went into the 1,000-page report. It was the fifth and final one from the Republican-led Senate intelligence committee on the Russia investigation:

“The findings, including unflinching characterizations of furtive interactions between Trump associates and Russian operatives, echo to a large degree those of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation and appear to repudiate the Republican president’s claims that the FBI had no basis to investigate whether his campaign was conspiring with Russia. Trump has called the Russia investigations a “hoax.”

Cold irony then that it is the feckless Rubio who seems to be caught in the middle of unfriendly fire right now between Trump and the rest of the free world as his boss attacks the United States and makes excuses for Putin with his pathetic excuse for a “peace plan.”

From AP reporting:

Lawmakers critical of President Donald Trump’s approach to ending the Russia-Ukraine war said Saturday they spoke with Secretary of State Marco Rubio who told them that the peace plan Trump is pushing Kyiv to accept is a “wish list” of the Russians and not the actual proposal offering Washington’s positions.

A State Department spokesperson denied their account, calling it “blatantly false.”

Rubio himself then took the extraordinary step of suggesting online that the senators were mistaken, even though they said he was their source for the information. The secretary of state doubled down on the assertion that Washington was responsible for a proposal that had surprised many from the beginning for being so favorable to Moscow.

“For being so favorable to Moscow …”

Shocking, eh?

So here we are again. Donald Trump is doing everything in his seemingly unlimited power to make sure Putin gets what he wants after starting this illegal and immoral war against Ukraine.

He is clearly in the tank FOR Russia and AGAINST America.

Just what in the hell is going here????

We are never going to see the Epstein files

I am going to type something you are not going to like, folks, but it’s for our own good, so here goes:

We are never going to see the Epstein files.

I know, I know, there I go, harshing your mellow again, but I am done playing these silly, tiresome games where our corporate media spends 278 consecutive news cycles chasing the crumbs Donald Trump and his lawless Department of Justice tosses them about Jeffrey Epstein, until all of a sudden everybody wakes up one day and have completely lost the thread, which is this:

The man has had one of the single-worst years of any president in history. More than that? He knows it. Even more than that?

The voters know it.

Prices are rising, and jobs are evaporating. The rich are getting richer, and everybody else is getting poorer. Americans are sick and tired, at a time their health-care premiums are going through the roof.

There is a complete chaos in Washington, where the only thing Trump has accomplished of note is bulldozing our White House into one of his tasteless, cheap, and failing golden casinos, just five years removed from his destructive alterations to our Capitol Building after losing the 2020 election by more than 7 million votes.

He is a professional arsonist and ripoff artist who has assembled a submissive, appalling cabinet whose single job is to bow in unison to their king, while keeping the matches and gasoline coming.

Through all the blood and smoke, Left-leaning voters have taken to the streets, kept their tired eyes on the prize, and just two weeks ago, elected Democratic candidates to office at a stunning 2-to-1 clip. If this keeps up (and it will if we stay focused) Democrats might just flip the Senate next year, in addition to taking the House with a sizable margin.

Look, I am not saying everything and anything associated with Epstein isn’t important, but I am saying it can’t become the thing.

I am saying we believe the women, who were victimized by these monsters. I am saying we keep calling for the release of everything to do with Epstein, and we keep asking the woman-abusing Trump one question, and one question only, as it pertains to this abominable affair:

“Why won’t you, Mr. Trump, use all this power you relentlessly remind us you have to release the Epstein Files RIGHT NOW?”

Because if Trump really wanted the Epstein Files in the general vicinity of the public he could make that happen with a single snap of his fat little fingers.

But he’s not going to do that. Ever.

Anybody who thinks Trump is going to allow the Epstein Files — or even a semi-close approximation of them — to come out is completely delusional and has been in a blissful slumber the past 12 years. Trump didn’t surround himself with that corrupt cabinet, and build a lawless Supreme Court in his revolting image just so he can turn around and detonate a bomb that could blow him to smithereens.

Instead, he’s going to do that special thing he did Sunday night, when he assaulted his nuclear-powered cell phone with those fat, little fingers and took to his state-run social media account to type out this low-grade slop:

“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party.”

The Epstein files will be the blunt object Trump uses to beat on the Democrats and the press. This is all sport to him. Dangle whatever is left of the files out there as the shiny object that distracts us from the complete mess he has created since he stomped back into office 10 months ago, then play the victim of all of it.

“It’s another hoax — a witch hunt! Everybody is so, so mean to me …”

What it is, is a cover-up and that’s the only word that should be used going forward.

Sunday night, King Trump grudgingly gave his Republican congressional serfs the cover they need to tell their voters that they voted to release the files. Now they can wash their hands of the whole thing, before dirtying them again as they try to fend off Democratic challengers who are coming for their jobs next year.

Meantime, Trump can do what he does best, and spin our corporate media like a top. He can play that pathetic victim card, while he gaslights, deflects, and offends.

As I was researching this piece, I came across a clip in which Trump tells the press, “All of Epstein’s friends were Democrats.”

That is called a lie, but like so many of the tens of thousands of lies before it, went unchallenged, and was barely a part of the record. Trump’s too good at telling lies, and our media is too bad at exposing them and giving them the heft they deserve.

Worse, they have become far too accepting of the abuse this ill-bred yacht club bully and convicted felon directs at them on an hourly basis. As a career journalist it has become almost impossible to watch.

On Air Force One on Friday, Bloomberg reporter Catherine Lucey asked Trump about the Epstein case.

He shoved his chubby finger in her face, and snarled: “Quiet, quiet piggy!”

Lovely, eh?

By Tuesday he was brushing off the brutal murder of Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. Seated cozily next to Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, whose dirty regime ordered the killing, the dead-eyed Trump said, “Things happen.”

There’s no newsroom guidance I’m aware of anywhere that says journalists have to just sit there and take it when a slob, and convicted felon calls them “piggy” and shrugs off the brutal killing of one of their colleagues by simply saying, “Things happen.”

It is very hard to respect a press corp which won’t respect itself. Trump works for their readers, viewers, and listeners, and I’m not sure when exactly they forgot that.

For now, I will continue to fervently hope that in addition to pressing for an answer to the one and only question about the Epstein Files that truly matters, Democrats take this far more important question to the nation as a whole as we head toward the midterms:

“Are you better off now than you were two years ago?”

The answer to that will go a long way toward determining the balance of power in America, and just how much more crap we will all have to take from this lying, orange, abusive loudmouth.

This hero offered to punch Trump out

Two days after her beloved Democratic Party showed it still has plenty of fight left by battering Donald Trump’s Republicans at the polls all over the country, Nancy Pelosi, 85, announced her retirement from Congress Thursday.

There ought to be monuments erected in Washington D.C., to honor this great woman. You can wipe the damn smirk off your face.

I’m dead serious about this.

After raising her five children to adulthood, because the children — ALL children — always came first with Pelosi, she served in Congress for 38 years where she would become the first woman ever to ascend to Speaker of the House.

She was without a doubt the most powerful person to ever hold this lofty position, and if you don’t believe me, let former Republican Speaker John Boehner tell it:

“Nancy Pelosi had a killer instinct and may be the most powerful Speaker ever. She understands power, knows how to use it, and rarely leaves fingerprints.”

Can somebody point to one person like Pelosi in our nation’s history who has book-ended and deftly turned the pages on two ugly chapters of Republican filth, incompetence and destruction?

Can somebody point to just one person who hung in for America’s sake and led the charge to help rescue her not once, not twice, but three times from the abyss?

In 2006, George Bush, the Far, Far Stupider One, was in the middle of his patented, daily drooling while hundreds and thousands of our nation’s finest were being killed and wounded every month in Iraq thanks to a war predicated by his singular ability to lie through his crooked teeth.

As caskets draped in flags were brought back to our country and hidden from plain sight by the Cheneys, Roves and Rumsfelds, we were quietly steaming toward what would be the most horrific financial crisis since the Great Depression. Making matters potentially worse, just moments away from hundreds of thousands losing their homes and jobs, Bush was snorting and cackling about Social Security reform, because, well, shouldn’t everybody have the ability to invest in the stock market? Yes, had that ghastly GOP reform gone through, the Great Recession could have actually been far, far worse.

Imagine that.

Well, not a moment too soon, the 2006 Midterms happened and the Democrats seized control of the House and Senate and set about restoring order to Bush’s odious, corrupt Republican animal House.

And, say, is this ringing any bells …?

Anyway, in the Democrats’ wisdom back in ’07 they nominated Pelosi, the firebrand from San Francisco, to become the face of the party and the first woman ever to grab the Speaker’s gavel.

And an aside: I still get chills down my spine and a lump in my throat typing about this. I was not prepared for that moment. To see a woman finally rise to these new heights in American politics meant my daughters and other daughters could do it, too. In short, I became a blubbering fool and my love and respect for Nancy Pelosi started.

Because I am telling you again: Nobody has ever done her job better.

From 2007 to 2011, Pelosi ran the House with style, integrity and a champion arm-wrestler’s strength. She was key in helping elect the first Black man to the U.S. presidency. And when you think about it, have we ever been better off than with Barack Obama and Pelosi at the helm of our government?

Sigh …

Pelosi’s 111th Congress was one of the most productive ever. Some say it was the most productive. Who am I to quibble? She tirelessly rammed through life-changing and -saving legislation. She didn’t suffer fools lightly, but really she was just smarter and savvier then what she was messing with — and she wasn’t messing around.

Pelosi’s Congress passed Wall Street reforms, got rid of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” committed our country on a course toward clean energy, and twisted enough arms to get something called the Affordable Care Act passed by a whisker. Hell, those are just a few headlines. I could type 30 more column inches on what this titan accomplished during her historic, four-year term.

In short: SHE-HANDLED-THIS.

So with order restored and our nation on its way back from the abyss, the Democrats did what they absolutely do best: took a big, damn nap.

The Radical Right Tea Party blew a hole through truth and decency in the 2010 Midterms, and after four years of restoring order to the House, Pelosi was done as Speaker.

Six years later, the Democrats still in a Van Winkle slumber sat out the 2016 elections and the repulsive Trump, replete with a Republican Senate and Congress, was elected president.

The Democrats awoke from their nap in a panic and started sifting through the rubble for answers while tripping all over themselves in the darkness.

Again, is this ringing any bells?

It was going to be a long, terrifying two years.

In fact, it was a long, terrifying two years. But something magic was happening … While the orange beast terrorized the countryside, he was being met with real resistance. I’m talking get-out-on-the-street-and-do-something resistance.

If the Democrats were completely outraged by Trump and his GOP, they were even more outraged at themselves for letting it happen in the first place. A resolve to clean up that mess gripped the Left.

Then, just like in 2006, the 2018 Midterms came along and hopefully in the nick of time.

The Democrats demolished the GOP at the polls that year, casting nearly nine millions more votes. Despite being gerrymandered to the point of suffocation, the Dems seized 40 seats in Congress. They were back in charge, but who would lead them?

What?! Are you kidding?! Who would lead them?!?!

Nancy Pelosi would lead them, that’s who, dammit.

You got a mess to clean up? You need order restored? You need a titan to stand up to a bully? You need strength and honor staring down the crooked face of evil and corruption?

You call on the strongest leader in the world.

Pelosi rebuilt committees brick by brick, tore in to the ghastly Trump and tore up his slobbery speeches. Nobody, I mean NOBODY publicly took it to Trump like she did. He had no idea what to do with a strong woman, who was half his size, and better than him in every, single way.

Pelosi and her Democratic Congress put the brakes on Trump and his odious presidency, and helped Joe Biden run the madman out of office in 2020 — but not before his appalling attack on America just months after that election. Pelosi, of course, was in our Capitol that day, while Trump’s anti-America MAGA filth were hunting her down.

She took charge, and was caught on camera saying of Trump:

“I want to punch him out, and I’m going to go to jail, and I’m going to be happy.”

Instead, and unfortunately, Trump slithered away from his violent attack because Biden’s Justice Department lacked even half of Pelosi’s strength and resolve.

With Biden in office, Pelosi did what she does best and got the votes to pass the historic Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS bill and the bipartisan infrastructure law.

In 2022, Republicans reclaimed the House and Pelosi stepped aside from formal leadership, tossing the baton to New York’s Hakeem Jeffries.

These days, the weak and grotesque Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has rammed through one bill of significance and it helps only the billionaires in this country, who helped install his rancid party in office.

Johnson replacing Pelosi as Speaker is the flea replacing the lion.

And if you are reading all this, and still have the inclination, to start with some, “Yeah, buts …,” concerning Pelosi you’ve missed the entire point of this column and her career.

You can attach “yeah buts” to Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, King, or Kennedy … but they are all recognized as iconic figures.

Like these men, Nancy Pelosi is a singular person in American history. Her tirelessly work in service to this country, has made it a better, safer, healthier, and smarter place to live.

So how do you honor this woman’s sacrifice and leadership?

You thank her.

You build monuments to her.

You can see doom for Trump ahead if you can read the signs

Lately, I’m hearing way too damn much about the anti-American Donald Trump running for a third term in the office he disgraces on an hourly basis — and it needs to stop right now.

We are not even 10 months into this second reign of terror, and have more than enough to worry about without spending needless energy on a fever dream pouring from a madman’s sick and quickly diminishing mind.

Getting hung up on this third-term nonsense is not only stupid but self-defeating and dangerous. So let’s talk about reality for the next five minutes or so, instead of overheated conjecture.

I want to type with some precision about what the grotesque, 79-year-old Trump is, and what he is not.

Donald John Trump is provably an America-attacking, uncouth, convicted felon and bigoted slob who is both sick in mind and physical health. He drags his heavy left leg around with him like so many of his failed relationships. He visits the doctor more often than he goes to church, and lately has had more screenings than a 150-year-old house in a mosquito-infested swamp in Louisiana.

He is terminally ill, and second-term challenged.

He’s a morbidly obese mountain of hate, whose swollen ankles should hire one of the 1,200 lawyers he has in his employ, and sue for lack of support.

Just Monday, this lumbering lout casually bragged to a bunch of fawning reporters, “I got an MRI, it was perfect.”

This was significant news that as usual didn’t get the attention it deserved by an incompetent corporate media that has been brought to heel by their abuser with the short leash.

MRIs aren’t handed out at alleged routine medical checkups like lollipops.

“OK, Mr. Trump, let’s take your height, weight, and a MRI …”

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is used to detect and/or monitor potentially serious issues inside our bodies. The deteriorating Trump is a walking, talking medical crisis, and you don’t need a doctor to detect that.

I’ve typed for some time now that maybe instead of wondering if our country will survive these next three-plus years of Trump, this question should be asked instead: Will Trump survive these next three-plus years?

In Japan Tuesday, he spent part of the afternoon aimlessly wandering around Akasaka Palace like Frankenstein after an all-night bender at the biergarten. It has to be seen to be believed, as newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi does her best to keep Orange Frankenstein in her general vicinity.

This is where I feel obligated to tell you that if Joe Biden had been seen doing this, it would have been headline news for several months — the things bulletins are made of. With Trump it gets little to no mention at all, before attention is turned back to the 73 other circus events he has loosely choreographed, including insane talk of a third term.

Trump is in obvious failing health, so yapping about anything past next month, much less 2028, is a massive waste of everybody’s time. But that’s exactly what Trump did right after breathlessly breaking the news of his “perfect” MRI.

That’s when he said he “would love” a third term because of his “popularity with supporters,” who just can’t get enough of a guy who is about to end SNAP benefits for 42 million Americans, many of whom are THEM.

And oblige me while I stop here to remind you of this, before continuing:

Every bill to help feed people in my long lifetime has been passed by Democrats. Every bill to starve them has been passed by Republicans.

Look, in the next year or so, as the evidence mounts that Trump is deteriorating faster than a snowball in the Arizona desert, his health will finally grudgingly be flagged by the very so-called media experts, who are now fixated on this fictional third term.

So let me step to the head of the line and type this: He should resign immediately, and go off to spend whatever little time he has left on some golf course, dragging that leg around, stiffing caddies, and punishing golf carts and playing companions.

Meantime, there is something else that bothers me about these busted, cloudy forecasters who warn of another term despite the feeble, wandering old man who is right in front of their damn eyes: They are giving this 350-pound pile of sludge some form of inevitability and power he simply doesn’t have.

I understand Republicans have spent decades and billions of dollars turning our Constitution into some perverted document with optional wording, but the 22nd Amendment clearly spells out, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

Stop normalizing something that should have never even been a thing.

Finally, by talking of this fictional third term, we are distracting from his myriad failings as both a president and a man. There’s a better-than-average chance this monster abused children with his dead buddy, Jeffrey Epstein. The list of Epstein’s worshippers that Trump’s bought-and-paid-for attorney general said was on her desk has allegedly gone missing, and with it evidence that would potentially tie him to absolutely unthinkable crimes.

Just a month ago, there was significant bipartisan steam behind getting these Epstein documents released. Every minute wasted talking about third terms sprinkled with fairy dust dissuades us from talking about how unfit for life this appalling man is.

But if you can’t get enough of worrying about things that will never happen, I’ll give you something pleasant to fixate on that most certainly will:

In the next 20 years or so, there will in fact be big talk of a Trump third term — maybe even a fourth or fifth one. History’s worst will convene, and Trump and his beady red eyes, will elbow his way further downward and make it clear in his special way that only he can handle the heat of yet another term in his new home.

That’s when I reckon, Lucifer will be only too happy to oblige …

The one-time special counsel who was tasked at looking into the worst attack on our Capitol since the War of 1812, has lately indicated he has a reputation to protect, even if thanks to the feeble man who appointed him, his protection of the United States of America came far too late.

Brazen Republicans led by the foolish, loudmouth, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), have indicated they want a word with Smith, and this just might be the break millions of us have been waiting for.

Be careful what you ask for, Jimbo, because you might just get it.

Our justice system’s inability and/or refusal to jail the people who masterminded the violent attack on our country on Jan. 6, 2021, is the single greatest failure of the rule of law I have witnessed in my lifetime, and I am NOT done with it.

Read that again.

NOT DONE WITH IT.

So you’re damn right I want the whole story told about what went down that gruesome January day, and who was behind it. I want a damn accounting of all the days that led up to it.

I want to know who was behind the attack on America, and I know for sure I am not alone.

Jan. 6, 2021, was the day we found out for sure that there isn’t a single terrible thing that white, male privilege can’t afford to buy in the United States of America. That’s the day we found out for sure, that there are millions of people who have it out for this country and what, and who, it is supposed to stand for.

This wasn’t a random deplorable act, it was far worse than that. It was the gruesome act of a racist, cultist political movement rooted in the notion of white power and spearheaded by an orange devil.

If we don’t know that for sure by now with troops in our streets, our White House being demolished, masked marauders sweeping innocent people away to God know where, and an entire party covering for an alleged child rapist, to hell with all of us.

We all watched the attack that terrible January afternoon. We know what we saw. Just as the orange devil knew what it is he saw through those empty, red eyes.

He loved it.

He loved it so much in fact, that while the attack was in full froth, he did nothing but sequester himself in front of a TV and spent three full hours rooting for its success.

We know this.

When it was finally clear America’s defenses would hold against his assault on Lady Liberty, he harrumphed in front of a camera on the White House lawn and told the enemies of America that he had invited to our Capitol to simply go home. Oh, and he told them that he loved them.

HE TOLD THEM THAT HE LOVED THEM.

Don’t you DARE tell us there should be no accounting for that terrible day — a day that followed a night which proved just how great America really could be, when Georgians went to the polls and voted a Black man and a Jewish man into office to give the Democrats control of the United States Senate.

Just 14 hours after freedom rang in Georgia, Trump and his Republicans’ attack on America commenced …

We will never forget this, even if that’s exactly what an entire corrupt, morally bankrupt political party would like us to do. They’d rather we didn’t learn from it, and that future generations are told some perverted version of the truth, instead of what really went down that day. Rewriting, or ignoring history has become just one of their their specialties. They ban books they don’t like, and the odious billionaires who foot their bills, have successfully bought off large chunks of our toothless, cowardice corporate media to protect us from the truth, instead of reporting it.

Truth is getting harder and harder to find these days, so it’s best we go with what we know, and believe what is right in front of our eyes.

So here’s some truth:

Trump and the people who stood up the violent attack on our country belong in jail for the rest of their miserable lives, and I swear to God I won’t stop typing that EVER.

Our government is now run by the people who attacked us, because I am telling you again: There isn’t a single terrible thing that white privilege can’t afford.

So how did this happen …

My contempt for Joe Biden’s worthless attorney general, Merrick Garland, has been wrapped in many hard words the past four years, so here’s a just a few more — and directly this time:

Justice delayed, is justice denied. Worse, you knew that, sport. You were timid in the face of horror. Completely adequate. Weak. So now you hide after failing to protect the one thing you were charged with protecting. And that’s just pathetic.

No, my friends, I don’t feel much better, either, but some things need saying. This has been an extraordinarily sad chapter in our history, and Garland was on the wrong side of it.

Thanks to his dithering, or worse, calculated, dereliction of duty, Jack Smith came along far too late, but he has a story to tell, and facts to let loose, and everybody in the world needs to hear them.

I’ll end with words I typed seven weeks after last year’s terrible election, and this time wrap them in steel:

I don’t much care how this report on January 6th is released, or leaked, or served up cold on a platter, just as long as we see it. We paid for the damn investigation, and have a right to see just how close we are to losing everything right now, because of the criminal incompetence of Attorney General Merrick Garland the past three-plus years, and the incomprehensible stupidity and recklessness of so many American voters just 52 short days ago.

Everybody who watched that heinous attack on our country has a right to know who and what was behind it. You don’t get to just quit, wash your hands of the whole damn thing, and go off into a comfortable retirement in the countryside made possible by taxpayer money, while the nation you roundly ignored slowly burns.
I cannot stop being angrier than hell about this, and for the life of me, can’t believe more people who profess to love this country aren’t every bit as furious as I am.

So let’s hear what you have to say, Jack Smith. The entire world is waiting …

I blame Barack Obama for this

Up until inside the past decade or so, I always fancied myself a fairly affable guy. Growing up in New Jersey and working in newspapers as an adult demanded a certain degree of tolerance and a wicked sense of humor.

Everybody had their flaws, but we were all in this mess together, so I figured let’s go for the laughs and make the most of it. I was willing to give anybody a chance.

Not anymore.

These days, if I even whiff the foul scent of Republican on you, I’m either going the other way, or right through you.

Lately, I hate Republicans. I mean I really HATE them. I don’t necessarily like that I really hate Republicans, but there is nothing to recommend them. They are just flat mean, morally busted, and are actively trying to kill us. Worse, many of them are doing it with a smile on their face.

How many more hundreds of thousands of Americans would still be alive if we all simply listened to the science, wore masks and got vaccinated? How much more stable would our democracy be if a defeat at the polls was accepted through gritted teeth and graciousness, instead of threats and insurrection?

Instead, Republicans have doubled down on their heinousness and placed an anti-vax ghoul in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services. They have made scientists the enemy, instead of our friends tirelessly searching for answers.

Rather than defend and replenish the lifeblood of any democracy, our vote, Republicans are doing everything in their power to kill it. It’s not a matter of IF Trump deploys the Insurrection Act but WHEN, to put down people who don’t like him or disagree with him, which we know from last weekend alone is an astronomical number.

It really is hard to see how we survive this without an all-out war. More than 7 million patriots were in our streets last Saturday peacefully sending the message that they’ve had enough of this dangerous, abhorrent Republican fascism.

The grotesque, orange would-be king responded by posting an AI video of himself literally s------g on those protesters. Republicans, as always, were just fine with this. Completely normal. Nothing to see here.

The corporate press, which has gone out of its way to enable this madness, barely gave it a mention.

Like I said, this is not sustainable.

It was quite a surprise then, that when I rolled out of the rack today, I resolved to find a better way to talk to Republicans. I’m sure it had something to do with a recent epiphany, but more on that below.

Something has to change …

I didn’t always hate Republicans. Hell, I used to vote for ’em every now and then.

Are you still there …?

A number of my oldest friends are Republicans. We’ve been around several blocks together. These are the people I grew up with; got in trouble with; fought for; whose pockets were stuffed with my secrets … the people I loved.

I know where my old friends came from; how they were raised; whether their mother or father was an ass; where the skeletons were buried … Nobody knows more about you than an old, trusted friend.

Lately, I don’t much recognize too many of my old friends anymore. I reckon I look pretty hazy to them, too. I see the stuff they load up on their Facebook page, and wonder how it is we ended up living on different planets when we used to share the same bed.

This all started with Trump, of course. The guy brought out the worst in all of us. It’s his singular talent. Everybody around him is miserable and angry.

I realize I’m not splattering you with any big revelations here. We’ve all gone through this. Not a one of us hasn’t been touched by this negative, soul-crushing force.

Used to be we could trade political insults. Poke fun at each other. In the event it got too heated we could turn the flame down by simply agreeing too many of our politicians were full of crap. They were just going to screw us all in the end no matter what. There was money to be made.

Much better to believe in a friendship that had stood the test of time, than some political party that would test your patience.

Those were the days ...

Today was going to be different, though. Today, I was going to be the bigger man. I was going to reengage. Bridge the gap. Start anew. Find some reason amid the ashes of these torched relationships …

I blame Barack Obama for this.

I don’t know about you, but I do most of my above-average thinking while lying in bed. There’s not a more honest place than safely underneath the covers, head nestled in a pillow.

Just before I closed my eyes Sunday night, I remembered something the two-term, scandal-free president said on a campaign trail way back when while stumping for Joe Biden. I’ll paraphrase, and guarantee you it was even smarter than I’ll type it. But it stuck, and here it goes:

“Look,” Obama said in his ascending tone, “If I tell your Republican friends they should consider voting for something or doing something, they’ll look at me and laugh. They don’t like me! But if YOU tell your Republican friends they should consider voting for something or doing something, they’ll listen! And they’ll listen, because-they-like-you! They might even LOVE you! So sit down. Talk with them!”

See what I mean? If FDR deserved four terms, this guy should have got at least that many. Imagine how much better off we’d be for it.

Except we don’t allows kings in the country …

Now, here I was this morning, refreshed and ready to bring it. There were holes to patch and old friendships to cement. I would be the better man, and cautiously extend a hand. Maybe, just maybe … I could reconnect with a few of these lost souls.

I figured there was nothing to lose, because everything has already been lost. If nothing else it might add perspective, and make for a half-decent column.

I poured a cup of coffee, plugged into a comfy chair, cracked open the local paper, and said this out loud: “Awwwwwwwww fuuuuuuuck …”

HEADLINE: “GOP Tries to Weaken Law Shielding Whales, Seals and Polar Bears”

Whales, seals and polar bears????? Holy hell, are there three more lovable and majestic creatures on this earth?

Whales, seals and polar bears?????

Is there ANYTHING these detestable Republicans won’t put their filthy hands on and strangle to death?

Here’s the lede of this important story:

BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine (AP) — Republican lawmakers are targeting one of the U.S.’s longest standing pieces of environmental legislation, credited with helping save rare whales from extinction.Conservative leaders feel they now have the political will to remove key pieces of the Marine Mammal Protection Act, enacted in 1972 to protect whales, seals, polar bears and other sea animals.

Turns out this story was filed last week and got very little damn attention, because Republicans are coming at us with both barrels. They intend to end America as we’ve known it since the last Civil War.

It’s impossible to keep up with it all, and process this madness, which is all part of their destructive design.

The Republican Party is anti-life, anti-American, and anti-good.

The party that said boogeymen were coming for our cats and dogs, are literally coming after our whales, seals and polar bears.

How damn much more of this are we supposed to take?

So, hands shaking, I put the paper down, and raged to the point of tears.

I decided talking to my Republican friends could wait for a bit, and until I could do it without wanting ’em all dead.

Dems are sabotaging their own chances of finally taking down Susan Collins

Every time, I am ready to write a column that essentially says, “Yes, the Democrats have some issues, but I will not be beating up on them just as long as these fascist Republicans are around,” the stubborn, tone-deaf Chuck Schumer-led Democratic establishment does something so blindingly stupid it demands comment.

deep sigh

Last Tuesday, we learned that after negligible arm-twisting from what passes as leadership of her party, Maine Gov. Janet Mills is running for the Democratic nomination in next year’s U.S. senate race to unseat the incumbent Republican, Sen. Susan Collins.

By convincing Mills, 77, to run next year, Schumer and the squeaky, rusted, antiquated Democratic Machine somehow spit somebody out who will make the stodgy, 72-year-old Collins seem young, vibrant and energetic.

So a question: Just what is going on here?

Go ahead and call me ageist if you like — I’ve been called far worse — but how is it that a party suffering with all-time low approval ratings, and is hemorrhaging younger voters (especially men), think running a candidate who was born just two years after the end of World War II makes any damn sense in this crucial race?

Worse, there is already a fine Democratic candidate in place that the party should embrace with both arms, who I will touch on in a minute after typing this:

I like Mills fine.

This is not an attack on her or her record, only what reeks of incredible hubris by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), which will now sink tons of money into the state to get rid of any would-be challengers to Mills, and set the party up for yet another fall. Democrats have not won a U.S. Senate race in Maine since 1988, when George Mitchell was reelected.

I thank Mills for her service to a state and people that I truly love, but rather than hoping to become the oldest freshman senator in U.S. history, it’s time to step aside, and open the door to the future.

Better yet, why not use your experience to help transition your party toward a worthwhile, necessary quest to reconnect with a new generation of voters?

I worked as the sports editor of the Lewiston (Maine) Sun-Journal between 1992-98, and loved the job and the place. Mainers are a hearty, independent lot, who take great pride in not falling in lockstep with the other 49 states in our rattled union. From their rooftop perch in the north-east corner of the country they literally look down on the rest of the United States. This doesn’t make them haughty, it makes them properly suspicious.

You really can’t get they-uh from he-yuh, and they like it just fine that way.

Ironically, I was a resident of the Pine Tree State when Collins won her first term in the Senate in 1996 as an up-and-coming 43-year-old. If you told me back then that she’d still be there now, I wouldn't have believed you.

I’ve now lived in three different states, and three different countries since Collins was first elected. For all my moving, it’s become all too clear that our Capitol is the hill our United States Senators go to die on. Knocking off a sitting senator is like trying to show the drunken Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth the door at a strip club.

In announcing her bid, Mills trumpeted that she “stood up to Trump once, and will do it again!”

Good God, I’d hope so. This shouldn’t be the answer to a test, but the minimal qualification needed to even take the test, because if you aren’t standing up to the revolting Trump, you aren’t standing up for America.

By announcing her bid, Mills joins a crowded field of candidates featuring a person I believe to be a future star in the Democratic Party, if only it would get out of its own way and help him run like hell.

I will vigorously be supporting Graham Platner to take on the two-faced Collins two Novembers from now in an election Democrats simply must flip if they are to have any hope of taking back the senate.

Platner, 41, is an oysterman, harbormaster and Marine veteran with four infantry tours to Iraq and Afghanistan under his belt.

Since announcing his candidacy in August, Platner has proven himself a gifted campaigner and packed the house during scores of speaking engagements. He also raised an astonishing $500,000 in the 24 hours after Mills announced her candidacy, which should send a message to the all-knowing DSCC that they would be wise to listen to, if only they could see past their noses.

He is positioning himself as “the enemy of the oligarchy” and has repeatedly refused to be baited into positioning himself as a “progressive” Democratic, preferring instead to let his positions themselves do the talking.

“I think it’s silly that thinking people deserve health care, that makes you some kind of lefty. But I do think those working-class policies are necessary.”

More of this, please.

It’s way past time we stopped roping people into this progressive-moderate fight in the party. It’s counterproductive, and serves only the ghastly Republicans. Personally, I like, and have supported, the more moderate Abigail Spanberger in Virginia’s governor race, and the more liberal Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral contest.

They are both positioned to win their races in less than three weeks because they are the right candidates, in the right races, at the right time.

Platner has proven he can connect with people, many of whom are sick and tired of machine politics in this country, where gobs of money, instead of policies, charisma and the ability to lead is king.

I’ll let Platner tell it:

“There’s an anti-establishment angst in the country that I think is well-founded. People think that the system does not represent them, and they’re not wrong at all. And I think that sending or choosing candidates who come from the establishment, come from politics — regardless of who they are as people, regardless of what they’ve pushed — is, in many ways right now, I think, a real liability.”

Again: I am not making the case that no political experience is always an advantage, but when you are running against a wishy-washy establishment candidate like Collins who has bathed herself in Washington’s riches, and has already served five terms in the Senate, a message like this will resonate on the campaign trail.

Platner:

“I have held over 20 town halls in every corner of Maine, from Rumford to Madawaska to Portland. Everywhere I hear the same thing: People are ready for change. They know the system is broken and they know that politicians who have been working in the system for years, like Susan Collins, are not going to fix it.”

If you know Maine at all you will also know that Rumford, Madawaska and Portland could not be any more different. Rumford is an old paper mill town, Madawaska is in far-reaches of the rooftop of the state, and Portland is the state’s biggest city, sitting hard on the coast.

The people in these areas couldn’t be any more different, but their independence and just being proud Mainers is what binds them together. They won’t agree on everything, except that they live in what they believe to be our greatest state.

It occurs to me that Maine should serve as a metaphor for the Democrats and Left-leaners in America. Sure we are different, but if you come for one of us, you come for all of us.

First, though, we have to get out of our own way and learn some hard lessons.

If Democrats think running a 78-year-old candidate for a seat with a six-year term, after what happened to another WWII-era candidate last year, they haven’t learned a thing.

This isn’t looking toward a brighter future, it’s looking back on a dark past.

Right now the party doesn’t seem capable of making the necessary changes to inspire confidence among an American voting electorate that is scared, suspicious, and uninspired by the status quo.

And, man, I’m getting sick and tired of typing that.

We already know how to beat Trump — and it's not with scaremongering like this

rAs I was finally kicking my feet up and settling into a football game Monday night, to get lost in some meaningless diversion from the relentless madness overrunning America, my phone buzzed.

Good God, what now, I thought?

When I grudgingly reached for the overheated troublemaker, this is what confronted me.

Collapse imminent? Desperate call? Emergency sirens? What the …?

THIS is what I am being accosted with at 10 p.m., while trying to wind down from another insane day?

I slapped my phone down, and went into a slow boil …

To be honest, I had a lousy Monday, so maybe this message set me off more than it should have, but when I woke up this morning from a semi-sleepless night, I found I was still in a mood, and figured at least this much needed writing:

STOP IT WITH THESE LOADED MESSAGES, DEMOCRATS

Anybody who cares enough to pay attention to what is happening in (and to) the United States is to the point of being scared to death right now. Not an hour goes by that Trump and his nauseating Republicans aren’t terrorizing America.

We are dealing with a lot.

Preying on our emotions like this late at night by sending urgent missives designed to empty our pockets is insensitive at best, and abusive at worst.

Too often, it’s even worse than that, because a lot of the crap in all these damn messages — and last night’s in particular — is just plain nonsense.

That makes them insulting, and dangerous, because there are already more than enough political lies and misinformation destabilizing America.

To start, this election in Pennsylvania is nothing like what went down in Georgia, four-plus years ago. In fact, this election on Nov. 4, is like few others anywhere, and many Pennsylvanians don’t even know that.

Here’s what they do need to know: Vote YES to retain the three Supreme Court justices currently on the bench. You’d think a loud, obnoxious message like the one I was bombarded with above would at least say that much.

By voting to retain the three justices in this election, liberals will hold onto a 5-2 majority on that court, and protect Pennsylvanians from the evil machinations of the no-good Republicans in that battleground state.

If you want more, I encourage you to have a look at this tremendous article I found from Spotlight PA that gets into the particulars of the race: Pa. election 2025: What is judicial retention, and why does it matter for Supreme Court balance? Among other things, it does a thorough job of breaking down how Pennsylvania conducts its whacky Supreme Court elections.

(NOTE: I sent this piece, along with a few of my own choice words, to the devils at ActBlue, who accosted me with their fundraising message. They either have no idea how these elections are run, or worse, really don’t give a damn just as long as they can scare the hell out of everybody by screaming about some damn fictional, “imminent collapse.”)

The Spotlight PA write is lengthy, but I encourage you to read it. For now, though, here are some important bits I extracted from the piece, with passages I highlighted for emphasis:

  • These yes-or-no retention elections are a big deal, and if Republicans succeed in their stated goal of getting Pennsylvanians to vote “no,” they could set the stage for a total remaking of the court. But the process is also very different from a traditional election, and Republicans won’t automatically win a majority even if they get “no” votes.
  • Retention elections are not partisan, so when a judge appears on the ballot to be retained, their name won’t have a party next to it. These elections also don’t involve an opposing candidate. Voters are simply asked to say yes or no to giving a judge another decade on the bench. If the vote is yes, the judge stays on. If it is no, the governor can appoint a temporary replacement subject to the approval of the state Senate. An election for a replacement to serve a full 10-year term is then held in the next odd year, which means that if a judge isn’t retained this year, voters won’t pick a long-term replacement until 2027. The judges appointed as replacements traditionally don’t stand for full-term elections, though nothing actually prevents them from doing so.
  • Is a ‘no’ vote on retention the norm? Nope. It’s extremely unusual. Most judges up for retention win new terms by comfortable margins. Just one statewide judge has lost retention since 1968, when the state constitution was last updated — Supreme Court Justice Russell Nigro.

OK, me again.

From an historical standpoint, things look pretty good for the Left-leaning justices in this race. I should also add that recent polling has “yes” leading by double-digits. Democrats have also spent more than three times as much money as Republicans on the race according to the tracking service AdImpact.

All that, despite the bombastic claims in that loud fundraising message designed to get your heart beating and your head screaming.

Look, the Supreme Court race in Pennsylvania is important as hell. EVERY election in the United States of America is as important as hell, and should be treated as such.

From now until Nov. 4, we should all do what we can within reason to help our fellow patriots in Pennsylvania prevail at the voting booth. We do that by spreading the truth, and offering a hand up, not a punch in the face with late-night scare tactics.

I believe this constant assault on our senses is having a negative effect on voters right now. I believe we are in danger of burning people out who have been running hot for the better part of a decade trying to stand up for Democrats by putting down this Republican fascism that is overrunning this country.

Since last November’s nightmare, Democrats have fared incredibly well in elections all over the country, including the battleground state of Wisconsin, where the liberal justice running for that Supreme Court won by a whopping 10 points in April.

You’ll remember that election because it is the one the grotesque Elon Musk used to bribe voters with all his blood money. Turns out, it takes more than just money to win elections ...

I’ve had enough of all this repellent fundraising, and these offensive scare tactics.

I say we could stand a pat on the back, instead of a kick in the ass.

I say we give each other a break, before we are broken for good.

I say thank you for all you are doing.

Trump just threatened all of us — and we should take it very seriously

We are just a few days removed from the most toxic, anti-American speech ever given by a sitting President of the United States, and I am not letting it go.

And neither should you.

While addressing a gathering of military leadership from across the globe at Marine Corp Base Quantico in Northern Virginia Tuesday, the vile, America-attacking Donald Trump called on our generals and admirals to “… use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military,” so that he can attack us again.

There’s no sense being cute about it, or trying to sanitize it. The President of the United States is intent on using our military against us. And because I am one of the few in media — or the Democratic or Republican Party for that matter — who refuse to just merrily skip to the next Trump-made catastrophe, I want to repeat this again, until everybody hears it and understands it:

NOTHING Trump does with our military will be to protect the citizens of the United States of America. EVERYTHING Trump does with our military will be to protect himself from the citizens of the United States of America.
By words and by deed it is clear as day that Trump has absolutely no respect for the country he violently assaulted, nor our men and women who wear the uniform, because like any authoritarian leader he sees them as servants to him, and not our country.

And just so there was no misunderstanding about his objectives, Trump went on to say that the people who protest against him in America and disagree with his policies are, “The enemy within.”

Can you please read that again?

Look, while these words might pour out of his dirty mouth like contaminated water from an overflowing toilet because he is such a dreadful public speaker, they are nevertheless scripted and tested for affect before he ever harrumphs upon some poor, unsuspecting stage to use them.

The President of the United States was very intentionally telling us he will use our military against any American he doesn't like, which we all know is a very long list.

I suggest we take this very seriously.

Just a decade ago, if you heard the leader of any country say these things, you would have rightfully said, “Thank God I live in the United States where these kinds of terrible things never happen.”

Trump’s vile speech should have triggered a national discussion that would be reaching a fever pitch right now. Instead, we’ve just moved on to more drama: the predictable Trump/Republican shutdown of our United States Government that they so clearly hate.

We have dealt with shutdowns before, but never a president who is so intent on using our military to attack us.

All pressure should be brought to bear on these military leaders that this kind of thing is not remotely OK in America. As a veteran and journalist who worked closely with military leadership during my professional career, I would like to think that the vast majority of these men and women understand this.

Don’t get me wrong, I dealt with a few screwy, power-drunk flag officers during both my time at Stars & Stripes, and as a sailor way back when, but for the most part, I have confidence that most of these people understand nuclear-grade fascism when they see it and hear it.

I’d think they also know when they are being insulted by their punk of a secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, who can’t hold his liquor, his tongue, or handle a tricky communications platform like Signal.

So a suggestion: Locate the nearest military base to your home and contact the commanding officer (CO). Tell him or her how outraged you are by the commander in chief’s unbecoming conduct. If you can’t get to the CO directly make sure you are in contact with a base public affairs officer.

These folks are generally very responsive, and if I have this at all right, will be relieved by your concern. As I typed Tuesday after Trump’s grotesque speech: “Any flag officer who wasn’t deeply disturbed and insulted watching this unhinged rant isn’t worth the uniform she or he is wearing, and should apply for a job cleaning Trump’s pool.”

We have entered the most dangerous time in America history since our Civil War.

We may yet be able to solve this terrible mess politically, but if Trump continues to succeed in militarizing our troops against us, we are finished.

Done.

This is not the time to move on to the next thing, just because Trump and his odious Republicans want you to.

This is the time to fight back, because we have to.

This delusional Trump rant helps expose his true enemy

I had intended to write today about a video the repulsive President of the United States loaded up on his odious social media account Monday night. I had intended to warn you (again) that the normalization of terrible things like this by our worthless corporate media was even worse than the repellent videos themselves.

By allowing an obviously mentally unstable man to send out these sickening images to tens of millions of people around the world, without framing in 100-pt. type how grotesque and phony they are, our media was once again abdicating its singular responsibility of holding power accountable to the truth.

They are no longer even bothering to pretend they are up to the job.

I had intended to tell you as I have in the past, to find the truth wherever you can and share it everywhere. I hope this is one of those places, but in the case of this damn video, I’ll let one of America’s national treasures, Heather Cox Richardson, tell it, because I saw it first in one of her “Letters from an American” missives in the early-morning hours Tuesday.

(And if you aren’t subscribing to Richardson’s work you are missing what I believe to be the definitive snapshots of these worrisome times.)

From Richardson’s piece:

Tonight, Trump’s social media account posted a deepfake video of (Chuck) Schumer and (Hakeem) Jeffries speaking to reporters. In the doctored video, Schumer talks with Mexican music playing in the background, while Jeffries stands beside him wearing what appears to be a colorful Mexican sombrero and sporting a mustache with the ends waxed and turned up.

In the video, Schumer’s image is made to say: “There’s no way to sugarcoat it. Nobody likes Democrats anymore. We have no voters left because of all of our woke, trans bull----. Not even Black people want to vote for us anymore, even Latinos hate us. So we need new voters. And if we give all these illegal aliens free healthcare, we might be able to get them on our side so they can vote for us. They can’t even speak English, so they won’t realize we’re just a bunch of woke pieces of ---- you know? At least for a while, until they learn English and they realize they hate us too.”

Here is an image from Trump’s childish, racist, and repugnant post.

THIS is how the sickly President of the United States is spending his time. Snotty, spoiled five-year-olds behave with more class …

Because we have never had a president who constantly shares disgusting things like this, it should be the very definition of NEWS. Right now I am looking at the lead stories on The New York Times, The Washington Post and Associated Press websites and there is no mention of this video.

It is as if it never happened.

Well, millions saw it, and we should all be outraged by both the madman who shared it, and our worthless press, which can’t see the danger of it.

In her piece, Richardson also set the stage for what did rightfully get plenty of press on Tuesday: our joke of a Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, speaking to a gathering of our military leadership at Marine Corp Base Quantico in Northern Virginia.

Hegseth, an alleged stone-cold drunk and liar, finished with his foul speech, but not before predictably being upstaged by his repugnant, orange boss, who projectile-vomited all over room, and fully half the citizens of the country he hates.

It is also worth pointing out because they were too damn stupid to consider it, that gathering all our nation’s top generals, admirals and their commander in chief in one room might be the single greatest threat to national and operational security I have ever seen — even stupider than texting war plans to a reporter.

But who cares about little things like that when you have a president who is a pathetic showoff and malignant narcissist, and lives only to feed his insatiable, bloated ego. Acting the tough guy in a roomful of tough guys, was just too much for this low-class coward to pass up.

I could fill 50 column inches with the stench emitted from Trump’s big mouth on Tuesday, so I’ll share just this stained nugget:

“We should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military.”

These “dangerous cities” he was talking about, of course, are in the country he governs, because nothing excites him more than attacking America.

He lives for it.

He also called people who protest against him and disagree with his policies: “The enemy within.”

Again, he is talking about U.S. citizens. WE are the enemy.

So let me just duck this in before I forget, because I am furious: I served my country, you draft-dodging candy----, and you can kiss my ---, sport.

Thanks.

As always, Trump came off as a complete moron today as he crashed from one subject to another, head cocked like Stupid Mussolini.

Any flag officer who wasn’t deeply disturbed and insulted watching this unhinged rant isn’t worth the uniform she or he is wearing, and should apply for a job cleaning Trump’s pool.

And while this nauseating gathering allowed Trump to feel like a real man for about an hour, the real reason for the event was to put military leadership on notice yet again that they, and mostly their troops, are to be loyal to HIM and not the United States of America.

From Day One of this regime, I warned you that the very first thing Trump was going to do was use the military for his evil devices.

Keeping our military loyal to him is an essential ingredient of authoritarian leadership.

In WARNING SHOT: The America-attacking Trump is coming for our military, and then US ... I typed:

“Once you understand that Trump will use his presidency and whatever is left of his miserable life to settle scores and return the favors of the crooked dictators, and slobbery weaklings in his political party, who helped put him back in office, you can better prepare for the hell that’s most assuredly coming. You can never say you weren’t warned, because if you believe nothing else I type today, you damn well better believe this:
NOTHING Trump does with our military will be to protect the citizens of the United States of America.
EVERYTHING
Trump does with our military will be to protect himself from the citizens of the United States of America.

Trump’s true enemy is the truth and anybody who dares speak it, or report it.

As I put this piece to bed, Republicans are in the process of shutting down our government, our military is in our streets, perceived enemies of the crown are being prosecuted, our FBI is firing “disloyal” people at will, and the bedrock of any Democracy, our vote, is under attack.

Fascism is here.

Just don’t expect it to be reported that way.

We now know how Trumpism can be crushed

As the anti-science Republican Party urgently tries to turn out the lights to the lab of the great American experiment, I want to remind you again that there are patriots and truth-tellers everywhere fighting them, and we should all take heart …

Like you, these good people are leaning in hard and spending their time and treasure to protect us from the most anti-American regime this country has seen since the racist, traitorous Robert E. Lee was leading armies against our country 165 years ago.

I ran into two of these good folks on Saturday, and I want to tell you about it.

My wife and I were shaking off the last of the grisly road grime from a long journey that started in the Battleground State of Wisconsin, and 1,200 miles later ended hard on the coast of the Battleground State of North Carolina.

We were busy settling into temporary housing that should shelter us nicely for the next few months, as the state that stretches out to the north of us, Virginia, readies for crucial elections Nov. 4. Democratic victories in that state could radically change the battlefield for the forces defending America against the odious, fascist Republicans who mean to end us.

On the way to our car, I spotted a white Subaru in the parking lot with a handsome, bright blue Abigail Spanberger sticker on the car.

Spanberger is the Democrat running to replace the grotesque, book-banning, Glenn Youngkin, in Virginia as the state’s governor in just six, short weeks.

I told my wife that I endeavored to meet the fine people who would fly this flag in a N.C. county that isn’t shy about touting their anti-American ignorance by supporting the orange, convicted felon who violently attacks us …

There are plenty of pro-American, pro-environment patriots out here in the Outer Banks, but we don’t carry guns or wear our ignorance on stupid, childish cammies. We’re more inclined to go about our work with a quiet purpose, while picking up their trash on the beach.

Just after lunch, and on my way to the hardware store to grab some much-needed supplies, I got the opportunity to meet these people who wore their hearts on their sleeves.

A man and woman were piling into the Subaru, when I approached them. Here is how that encounter went:

ME: “Howdy!”

THEM: “Howdy!”

ME: “I was hoping to meet the people with that Spanberger sticker on their car.”

THE MAN: “Why? Are you going to punch me in the nose?”

I laughed out loud …

Such times we live in …

I told the man, named Joe, that I actually wanted to hug him, because Spanberger was bada--, and anybody who would support her must be some kind of bada-- themselves.

That’s when they laughed.

The wife, Carol, asked where I was from in Virginia, and I told her I was just a loudmouth activist lately stationed in Wisconsin, where we are fighting the good fight from the rooftop of the country.

She said, “Oh!! You guys are killing it up there!”

I agreed, of course, because since 2018 it’s hard to point to another state that has altered its political landscape as dramatically as Wisconsin.

We’ve kicked out Republican governors, flipped our Supreme Court from dark red to middling blue, put fair-ish maps in place, and basically restored order to a state that had gone mad thanks to the poison the billionaire Koch Bros. had been ladling out to the mouth-breathing Republicans, who were led by Scott Walker, perhaps the stupidest man alive.

Yeah, we fell short last November, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. Kamala Harris actually got more votes than Joe Biden did in 2020, but just enough Republicans and dummies in the middle helped put the woman-abusing felon back in our White House. We did keep the steady Tammy Baldwin in the Senate for six more years, so there was that.

So now I was talking to a couple of patriots who knew the importance of every election going forward, and were dug in on the frontlines of Virginia.

I told Joe that Spanberger was going to win big, because she was made for the moment, and so, too, were he and his wife.

He said, “I sure hope so,” before Carol interrupted and said, “She’s great. Yer damn right she’s gonna win!”

I gave her a high-five, smiled big, walked off, climbed into my car, and headed for the store.

There are patriots everywhere, my friends, and this is the time to be loud, proud and purposeful. You need to search these people out. Lean on them … If necessary, help show them the way.

There is great power in connection, because connection brings power.

It’s time to take that power back.

Here's what losers always do — and what Trump has already done

When I was a young man, I never figured that well into my seventh decade on this green and fading earth, I’d need to reiterate that I was a proud anti-fascist, and a veteran who served his country to defend it from violent, lawless convicted felons.

Like the one who has somehow scraped his way back into our White House …

It would have been completly inconceivable — a thing of fiction. When I was discharged from the Navy in 1980, America was an imperfect place, but tied together with the imperfect notion that if we stood together we could work our way out of nearly any self-inflicted mess.

Today, I am typing to you that Republicans have declared war on America, and as grotesque as that is, it is nonetheless a terrible reality we must come to grips with.

Maybe they are finishing what they started with Nixon and Reagan, but I’m here to tell you they have never been this sinister.

Donald J. Trump is a homegrown terrorist who hates America. After violently attacking our country once, he again has his fat little foot on the gas pedal, and this time means to run us over for good.

Instead of spending my golden years writing another damn book, and squeezing out every ounce of good that might be due to me, I am furiously banging out these three chilling words:

Authoritarianism is here.

Look, Trump will stop at nothing to protect himself, and continue to endanger this country. There are no lines he won’t cross, or laws he won’t incinerate. He’s a wholy dishonest man, who is good at exactly one thing: breaking things.

Like our economy, for instance ...

Since he slithered his way into our White House and spray-painted it tacky-gold, prices are rising, inflation is rising, unemployment is rising, and jobs are on the decrease. And that peace he promised to deliver on Day One? Well, things are escalating quickly in the Mideast, and along the frontlines of democracy in Eastern Europe.

Trump has predictably been a complete and utter failure, because history tells us that is all he has ever been. He was a rotten kid, a rotten businessman, a rotten husband, a rotten father, and is a poor damn excuse of a man.

His approval ratings are tanking, and everywhere he goes, which lately was an appalling stop in Great Britain, he is met with hate and derision.

His health is failing, and he looks even more hideous than usual. All the spray tan, and stringy stuff he tapes to his head each day are doing nothing to hide the fact he is quickly approaching the point where he is almost as dead on the outside as he is on the inside.

Instead of doing what every other president has done before him, and reassessing what has taken us down, he is steadfastly dragging along his dead right leg, and limping forward without looking back. He is climbing over the dead bodies toward the higher ground in his bunker where he can blame somebody else for his deep and never-ending failures.

It’s what losers do, and what he has always done.

  • If what’s left of our media is reporting on his ongoing failures, they are the problem, and need to be silenced.
  • If comedians are making light of his never-ending moronic tendencies, they need to be squashed.
  • If economic data comes out that doesn't put a shine to his dark failures, he needs to manufacture his own numbers that will.
  • If proven science doesn't align with his hair-brain thinking on things like vaccines and clean air and water, scientists need to be silenced, and crushed by the morally bankrupt billionaires who keep him in office, so their profits will soar.
  • If some inconvenient law is getting in the way of his march against the truth he can just ignore it, because he knows his bought-off, reprehensible conservative Supreme Court has already decided their lopsided, orange lout is fit to be king.
  • If none of that works, it was Obama or Biden’s fault.

And while ALL of this was inconceivable even 15 years ago, none of it comes as any surprise to those of us who have been doing nothing but paying close attention since the initial blast on Nov. 8, 2016.

If only everybody cared even half as much, we might not be in this terrible mess. Sadly, most don’t.

I’ll be spending the next couple of months typing to you from the coast of the Battleground State of North Carolina, and inside the Tidewater, Virginia, media market, as that state girds for crucial elections Nov. 4, that will decide which party holds power there.

Those elections, and similar contests in my home state, New Jersey, will be the first signs of whether our slide deep into fascism continues, or if we are interested in climbing out of the abyss.

For now, I’ll exit at the same place I left my last couple of columns by reiterating WE must be the truth-tellers going forward. We can no longer rely on our corporate media to tell us what is going on, because too many have pathetically surrendered to authoritarianism. We must turn to independent journalists to provide the truth, and confirm what is right in front of our eyes.

You … we … must all light the way ahead.

I’ll be very honest with you: I don’t need this s---, and know many of you don’t either. I think I speak for many of my generation when I say this is not how our retirement was supposed to go. We were planning to toss our flashlights and keys to the younger folks to guide the way. It was finally our turn to get the hell out of our own way, collect our social security, lean carefully on our savings, and make the most of whatever remained of our short lives.

I figured I’d find time at the nearest beach, and write about soft, pretty things of absolutely no consequence. I’d ride bliss, until it tossed me off and into some grave.

That’s when war came, and I made the decision not to ignore it.

It has been left to us to be true patriots and rescue America from the bruised grip of a maniac and his morally busted political cheap-shots, and misogynystic racists who mean to end us.

We must speak up, and stand against the latest Republican attack against our Democracy. There are no magic potions, or thoughts and prayers that will get us out of this mess. There is nobody coming to rescue us.

Once our Democracy is gone, we won’t get it back. Not in this lifetime.

At one point, America was the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I believe we are here to prove it still can be …

We are in danger of letting our most valuable ideals die with Charlie Kirk

On Aug. 9, 2016, Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, stood on his steel-enforced soapbox in Wilmington, North Carolina, and said this through a smirk about his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton:

"Hillary wants to abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. But the Second Amendment people … maybe there is, I don't know."

This was Trump at his absolute worst, which makes it as bad as it gets, or anyone can be, with his veiled suggestion that his supporters exercise their gun rights to stop Clinton from abolishing the Second Amendment.

Like so many toxic statements Trump made on his campaign trail of fears that year, it should have ended his candidacy on the spot. No presidential candidate in the history of our country had openly hinted at a call to arms against an opponent. And for the record, Clinton never once said she wanted to incinerate the Second Amendment.

Many Republicans called it simply a “joke gone bad” at the time because they had all heard those horrible words and the context in which he delivered them. Trump later denied he was advocating an assassination attempt, and instead was simply trying to coalesce a political movement.

I know how I felt when I heard his disgusting comments, and have no doubt what the odious Trump was implying with his sick “joke.”

Just four years later, Trump left no doubt about his violent intentions when he tried to overturn an election by instigating the worst attack on our Capitol since the War of 1812. Law enforcement officers were beaten with American and rebel flags. His vice president was threatened with hanging, and his thugs whom he later told us that he “loved” roamed the halls hunting down Speaker Nancy Pelosi, among others.

I remind you of these terrible things, because much of our broken-down legacy media refuses to in the wake of the murder of right-wing provocateur Charlie Kirk.

I remind you of this, because any reporting that doesn’t mention Trump as the root cause of the Republican hate speech and political violence across this country, isn’t worth the screen it is printed on.

I remind you of this because any reporting that doesn’t mention Kirk’s overt racism and misogyny as the catalyst for his popularity on the right is fooling itself, but worse, trying to fool you.

This is incredibly dangerous, because by treating the death of Kirk as some “political assassination” instead of yet another preventable gun death among tens of thousands in this country, our media is providing fuel to a fire that Republicans would like to burn to the point of out of control.

As I wrote on Friday:

I am not celebrating Kirk’s death, but I am lamenting the demise of truth in this country.

So here is the truth:

Trump is a hardcore racist, and Kirk was one too. I could fill 14 columns using only their racist words to buttress this fact.

He was not as New York Times columnist Ezra Klein typed Thursday, presumably with a blindfold on: “Practicing politics the right way.”

Klein’s column defied belief, because up until the moment he wrote those idiotic, dangerous words, I had a fair amount of respect for a guy who generally takes a reasoned approach to these unreasonable times we live in.

Here’s the column. I’ll guess it’s paywalled, but assure you it’s not worth a dime or a single minute of your time. Klein was slammed by NYT readers in the comments section, before they had to close the one-way discourse down. I’ll hope he read them. If he’s not embarrassed, and rethinking his shoddy, tone-deaf take on Kirk’s killing, he’s not human. Worse, he’s never to be trusted again, which would be a damn shame, because he generally is a voice of reason, whether you agree with him not.

I am not here to exclusively batter Klein, but I am saying he is one of the leaders of the chorus in our broken media, whose mishandling of the Republican attack on our Democracy has helped lead us to this terrible place.

The man who violently attacked our country, now has troops in our streets.

The man who tried to overturn our 2020 election, is now relentlessly attacking our election process.

The man who lied on the camping trail that “I have nothing to do with Project 2025,” is now implementing it almost to the letter in an effort to make sure we never recognize our government or our country ever again.

I have not seen ONE story in our legacy media calling him a fascist, even if he is the definition of one.

The same way I did not hear anybody in our legacy media call him a liar when in fact, he told a documented 30,573 lies or mistruths during his first, disastrous term.

The same way, I am not seeing the legacy media calling him a racist even now …

I want to remind you of something else I typed on Thursday, that is keeping me up at night:

DO NOT LET THE CORPORATE MEDIA FRAME THIS MOMENT.

As a lifetime journalist, that isn’t easy to type, but I was taught to report the truth, and that accuracy breeds credibility.

Without truth, accuracy, or credibility you are finished in the news business.

We all must gravitate toward the truth-tellers in our society right now, and become truth-tellers ourselves, if we are going to survive this rightwing onslaught on our Democracy.

We were warned Trump would sell out key allies

A year ago, Vice President Kamala Harris confidently walked up to Donald Trump, looked him in his bloodshot eyes, offered her hand, and then proceeded to spend the next 90 minutes dragging him all over the stage of Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center in their one-and-only 2024 presidential debate.

Harris was prepared, disciplined, and clearly demonstrated her keen understanding of both domestic and foreign policy issues. She wasted no time stating her key plans for her administration, and effortlessly illustrated a command of the Constitution. She made it clear that she, not her opponent, who was a convicted felon, had spent an entire professional career upholding our nation’s laws, not violating them.

She even predicted how the debate would go down telling the world that Trump would haul out “the same old, tired playbook,” and warning he would resort to “a bunch of lies, grievances and name-calling.”

While Harris strongly defended a woman’s right to choose, Trump stammered and lied saying, “As far as the abortion ban, no, I’m not in favor of an abortion ban. But it doesn’t matter because this issue has now been taken over by the states.”

Then he weirdly said, “I have been a leader on fertilization.”

With an incredulous look, Harris stared at him and then the camera, and said without speaking, “I have no idea what the hell he is talking about, either.”

This was repeated several more times, as Trump used the shovel Harris casually tossed him to bury himself.

When she wasn’t relentlessly fact-checking and battering the haggard Trump with the facts, she was nonchalantly casting a line and patiently waiting for the two-ton sucker fish to hit it, before setting the hook, and reeling him in.

By the time she was done, the orange, flapping fish was bleeding out all over the stage, and screaming, “They’re eating the dogs! They’re eating the cats!”

Harris also effortlessly dog-walked Trump into the very racist trap that he set weeks earlier when he questioned Harris’s “Blackness.”

“All I can say is, I read where she was not Black, that she put out. And I’ll say that, and then I read that she was Black. And that’s OK. Either one was OK with me. That’s up to her. That’s up to her.”

That’s up to her … How kind.

Harris again looked at the camera, with a “you decide” look.

When the a----kicking was finally over, Harris had masterfully humiliated Trump. She had proven she had the capacity to be one damn fine president, and knew how to stand up to fascist bullies, not roll out the red carpet for them.

So badly was Trump beaten, he actually flat turned down an offer from Republican state media at Fox TV to host a second debate, saying “there will be no rematch.”

It’s fitting then, that on the one-year anniversary of Harris’s knockout of Trump on that Philadelphia stage, we are getting news of Russia President Vladimir Putin’s incursion into Polish airspace today. High-ranking Polish military officials are decrying an “unprecedented violation” as a “huge number” of Russian drones were shot down by Polish and NATO forces over that country.

This is the first time in the history of NATO that alliance fighters have engaged enemy targets in allied airspace.

Read that again.

As I type this, Poland’s government has invoke Article 4 of the NATO treaty, that states alliance members “will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the parties is threatened.”

Without invoking Article 4, there cannot be Article 5, which could entail military action.

From reporting in The New York Times this afternoon:

Since NATO’s founding in 1949, Article 4 has been invoked eight times. Before Wednesday, the last was on Feb. 24, 2022, the day Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

What we know for sure right now is that the world is less safe today than it was yesterday, and certainly one year ago. We still don’t have a clue what Trump has to say about any of it, except what he posted on his social media account:

"What’s with Russia violating Poland’s airspace with drones? Here we go!"

Here we go? Good God.

This is the terrifying stuff of world wars, but of course, Harris was on top of this issue, too, during that debate, because unlike Trump, she read her national security briefings, and could tell our friends from our enemies.

At one point, Harris turned to Trump and said this:

“Why don’t you tell the 800,000 Polish Americans right here in Pennsylvania how quickly you would give up for the sake of favor, and what you think is a friendship with a known dictator (Putin) who would eat you for lunch?”

She wasn’t done:

“If Ukraine loses, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv with his eyes on the rest of Europe, starting with Poland.”

Holy hell …

And let me remind you that Trump promised to end Russia’s war with Ukraine on Day One of his presidency. Of course, anybody who was paying attention, and/or really loves this country, knew that like so much of the heated bilge that pours out of his lying mouth, it was all complete bulls–––.

Instead, just last month he surrendered to Putin on American soil by giving the murdering dictator the red-carpet treatment Harris had predicted.

But if we are really being accurate here, all of this was forecasted on another debate stage in 2016, when Trump was dragged around by another smart, tough, unflappable woman.

When Hillary Clinton went after Trump’s bromance with Putin, the man who would violently attack America only four years later said this:

“He (Putin) said nice things about me. He has no respect for her (Clinton), he has no respect for our president (Obama). I’ll tell you what, we’re in very serious trouble.”

Clinton responded this way:

“Well that's because he'd rather have a puppet as president of the United States.”

Truer words have never been spoken.

Both of these patriotic women were right about everything, and we should all be reminded of that every single day.

This could end the galling stupidity that keeps Trump in power

One of the most significant developments in what was another ear-shattering, soul-crushing week in American politics transpired quietly last Monday evening, when Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) announced he was stepping down.

Nadler, 78, has been a liberal force during his three decades in Congress, and by finally throwing in the towel signaled that maybe — just MAYBE — Democrats are starting to listen to their angry constituents, who are not at all pleased by the way the party has comported itself leading up to, and after, the most consequential election in American history this past November.

“Watching the Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect that,” Nadler said, before grudgingly adding, that a younger replacement “can maybe do better, can maybe help us more.”

Using the word “maybe” was Nadler’s ego talking, but it was the “Watching the Biden thing …” that really interested me. I’ll have more on that in a minute, but for now, it’s instructive to listen to how news of Nadler’s departure was received in Democratic circles. Put it this way: I have not heard from ONE person of note who thought this was a bad decision.

Basically, this is what I have been hearing:

“Thank you, sir, for your many years of service. I wish more Democrats would do the same.”

To put it kindly, the Democratic Party has become a stale, useless brand. It is a party crying for a new direction, and new leadership. It needs fresh faces, and new ideas. Again: Nobody I have talked to disputes this.

One only needs see what is transpiring in Nadler’s haunts in New York City for a vivid illustration of the party’s self-destructive clash of cultures.

Up-and-comer, Zohran Mamdani, 33, handily won the New York City Democratic Mayoral Primary in July, but instead of celebrating his victory, the Democratic old guard, led by Andrew Cuomo, are fighting hard against him.

This is grotesque, it really is, but is serving to expose all that is wrong with a party that refuses to get out of its own way.

Even Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has not been able to bring himself to endorse his fellow New Yorker, most likely because his campaign has accepted upwards of $1 million from the America Israel Public Affairs Committee (which loathes Mamdani) in just the last year alone, and because Jeffries has proven himself to be too cute by half.

Once an up-and-comer himself, Jeffries has lately fallen flat, and is out of tune with the majority of his party these days, who see him as a lurker, not a leader. Sadly, he seems to be one of the only people who doesn’t see this.

Mamdani’s stunning victory in the July primary was a repudiation of the old guard, their failed ideas, and all that old money. Mamdani has proven he can reach the voters that Democrats must have to win elections, which begs the question:

Why then are so many old guard Democrats throwing rocks at him?

The easy answer is all that damn money, but there is also something else at play here: Sheer stupidity, as well as that ego even Nadler has found so hard to shelve.

Listen to me:

If there was just ONE thing Democrats could do to enhance their chances in every election for the next 20 years it would be this: Throw out that old guard, swap out your so-called leadership, and make good and damn sure every person in America knows you’ve done it.

REPEAT: Throw out the old guard, swap out your so-called leadership, and make good and damn sure every person in America knows you’ve done it.

Nothing would signal you are listening to your terrified and angry electorate more than that. Further, it would serve notice to the growing number of Americans who don’t see a difference between our two major parties that this version of the Democratic Party isn’t serving up just more of the same old bull----.

Politics is a competitive, bottom-line sport. And in every sport except politics, winners are rewarded with a second chance, while losers go home. When a team wins, coaches, players and general managers are rewarded for their efforts. When a team loses, coaches, players, and general managers are sent packing.

At least this is how the perennial winners do it …

Fans of these teams expect nothing less. Why would they pour their hard-earned money into the pockets of losers? Are these fans any different than the constituents of the Democratic Party? Why should the people who do all the heavy lifting, volunteering, door-knocking, and rallying and marching until their feet hurt keep showing up if their party is just going to trot out the same old, tired-a-- losing team?

If you’ve read even a little of my stuff, you know how I feel about the revolting, racist, misogynistic, anti-American Republican Party.

That this group of bought-off goons has been able to garner the support of something called the “working-class American” is not only patently insane, but speaks to the massive failures of the Democratic Party, which has allowed for the greatest heist in American history.

How can the party that stands with unions, workers’ rights, increased minimum wage, wages overall, healthcare, childcare, social security, Medicaid and Medicare be losing the working-class voters?????

And, by the way, have you seen the latest job reports, showing Trump’s predictable and massive failures?

We’ve heard a lot about Democrats’ inability to communicate to the American public, but I’m not sure if that messaging is as much of a problem as the people who are doing it — those losing players I was talking about.

Like it or not, most Americans are sick and tired of the Cuomos and the Clintons, the Chuck Schumers and Hakeem Jeffries, the Amy Klobuchars and the Steny Hoyers, the Mark Warners and the Cory Bookers …

The list is really long, and growing.

None of these people should be in leadership any longer, and none of them will ever become president despite all their unbridled ambition, so they need to finally get that out of their hard heads.

Like it or not, they are the faces of a failed brand. I am not saying they all need to go, but they do need to learn to lead from behind, while pushing new, aspiring leaders forward.

THAT is how you truly serve your country, and thank you in advance.

It was bad enough the party lost the House, the Senate and the presidency in the most consequential elections in American history last November, but they somehow made it even worse by the way they completely and callously mishandled their beating.

It was almost as if they couldn’t wait to surrender.

It was as if they didn’t give a good goddam about the people who spent their time and treasure working their tails off to get them elected, and were now terrified about what was coming down the pike in a second, vengeful Trump dictatorial term.

A term, by the way, that should have never been allowed to happen if we had a damn Justice Department that acted with the urgency Trump’s January 6, 2021, attack on our nation most certainly demanded.

Joe Biden himself was absolutely appalling in Kamala Harris’s defeat, what with his warm welcome to America’s dictator in front of that damn fire in the White House only days after the election. I will never be able to unsee or un-hear that grotesque spectacle.

Then there was the cheery Klobuchar handling the inauguration festivities of the fascist dictator as if hosting some terrible, pinky-out cocktail party, while Schumer took it all in doing his worst impression of Chuck Schumer.

The gall of these people …

Within months, polls started reflecting Americans distaste for this out-of-touch, ineffective group. As I type this, the Democratic Party’s approval ratings are at roughly 20 percent.

Four out of five Americans don’t like what they are being served by Democrats.

It almost makes Trump’s 40 percent approvals look stellar by comparison.

But maybe Democrats are finally opening the door a crack, to let the fresh air in.

In the past few weeks I have seen hints of a different party, with different tactics, even if I am still seeing the same galling stupidity out of too many selfish dimwits like the odious, women-groping Andrew Cuomo.

Maybe Jerry Nadler’s resignation is a sign Democrats really are beginning to listen to their bosses in the field. We need more of this, people.

FAR MORE OF IT.

We need to hear from the new politicians, with new voices and ideas, who are advancing all the good Democrats have done and are doing, while forcefully standing against the most dangerous party in our nation’s history.

And we need to see them competing in our Red States as well as the Blue and Purple ones. Quit conceding turf to these fascists, who offer nothing to their voters but vitriol and death.

WE are the good guys, dammit.

WE need fighters.

These are the people who I will support. I am done getting my a-- kicked by backing the same old losing team with the same old losing players.

A dangerous group of whacko militants threatens to destroy Florida as we know it

Florida announced plans this week to become the first state to end all vaccine mandates, INCLUDING FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN.

Read that again.

I had intended to write about the Epstein files today, and the incredibly brave survivors of alleged child rape, who gathered on Capitol Hill to tell their stories. They were there because it is beginning to look like our president who ran on releasing those files, instead has a starring role in them, and will do everything possible to make sure they never see the light of day.

That would generally would be a banner story. In a sane, just world, it would have the potential to end Donald Trump's presidency, and ultimately land him jail for the rest of his miserable life.

But because you hang around places like this and pay attention, you don’t need me to tell you that we are not living in a sane, just world.

Just how insane and unjust is the world? Consider that the possibility of the president being accused of sexual abusing underage women was by far only the second-biggest story of the day ...

Truth is, this vaccine news might be one of the most significant stories of the century, because of its gruesome ramifications on the future of our rattling civilization.

Bluntly: If Florida goes through with this death plan, it could potentially result in one of the largest losses of human life ever.

Look, vaccines have been a life-changing discovery, and one of mankind’s greatest achievements. The advent of vaccines has saved hundreds of millions of lives the past 100 years or so.

That we are reversing our thinking on the use of vaccines in America is almost too absurd to contemplate. The profound stupidity and danger this presents really can't be overstated.

MILLIONS of lives are at risk if Florida out-Floridas itself and actually puts this deranged plan into action.

We need only look at COVID to see this.

Despite what you’ll hear from many ghoulish, anti-life Republicans, millions of lives were saved thanks to COVID vaccines. Maybe even more startling, an estimated 317,000 lives in the United States alone would have been saved during the COVID outbreak had everybody just done their civic duty and gotten vaccinated.

If Florida goes ahead with this insane plan, just as sure as I am typing this, all kinds of otherwise preventable diseases will begin reappearing all over the place — measles and polio just to name a couple. And while our children will be most vulnerable, because Republicans never saw a kid whose life wasn’t worth jeopardizing, Florida’s huge population of retirees will also be under direct threat.

We will ALL be under threat.

Today’s gruesome news comes in the backdrop of the insane vaccine guidance being shoveled out to the American public by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., our secretary of Health and Human Services, who listens to everybody but professionals in the medical and scientists communities, ignores a century’s worth of vaccines’ positive results, and has been a vocal vaccine skeptic.

Last month, after Kennedy proudly announced the rollback of nearly $500 million in vaccine funding, I typed this:

“Instead of answers and more science and discovery to make sure we are ready for the next mass-medical emergency, Trump instead has inflicted us with this gruesome stray from the Kennedy dynasty, who is quickly becoming a one-man pandemic.”

Last week, Susan Monarez, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was forced out by Captain Death less than one month into her job for refusing to go along with this maniac’s plans to end us.

Four other leading officials at the CDC resigned because they too had come under extreme pressure from the sickening Kennedy. One of those officials said Kennedy’s team asked him to “change studies that have been settled in the past” to fit Kennedy’s anti-vaccine views.

Yep, “change studies.” Just make stuff up. I mean, it’s only people’s lives we are talking about …

So who are the players down in the Sunset State, who are putting this latest death plan into action?

Let’s start with Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo, the Florida surgeon general, who made the announcement standing beside the state’s grotesque and Trump-slobbering Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Ladapo is a COVID vaccine-denier. A quack. A nut. A complete moron.

And dangerous as hell.

He has associated withccalled “America’s Frontline Doctors,” which is led by Texas physician Stella Immanuel, who has put forth the theory out loud and often that sperm from alien or demon sexual visitations are responsible for much of what ails us.

With qualifications like that, there is a good chance Ladapo has the inside track to the 2028 Republican Presidential nomination …

In announcing what will henceforth be known as the “Florida Death Plan” Ladapo said this:

“Who am I to tell you what your child should put in their body?”

Who are YOU to tell us??? You are allegedly a doctor, sonny. Should we be going to an exterminator to get advice on medical issues?

Er … That actually might be advisable in Florida.

He added that the administration would be “working to end” all vaccine mandates, because “every last one of them is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery.”

I’m not making this up.

Not a single word about the lives vaccines have saved, just lies and conspiracy theories, because that is the Republican way in 2025.

And then, of course, there’s DeSantis himself. A dumb man’s idea of a smart person. The ultimate Florida Man. A guy, who says, “Watch this!” while playing with matches and gasoline, as is the case with this maniacal, evil vaccine plan.

While standing next to Ladapo with that beachball-sized smirk on his face, Trump’s willing punching bag announced that his wife, Casey DeSantis, will head the commission on the Florida Death Plan, because if we are going to kill hundreds of a thousands of children best we have a dreadfully unqualified ghoul doing it.

Her beaming husband, Ron, ended the press conference by bragging:

“We’ve already done a lot. I don’t think any state has come even close to what Florida has done.”

He’ll get no argument there.

Republicans have a death wish

I’ll start by asking a question:

Why do Republicans want so many of us to die?

If I’m a Democratic politician, or voter, or even a loudmouth columnist, this is the only question I am asking repeatedly until the polls open in every election in America, before our sickly dictator uses our military in an attempt to end voting for good.

We are in a life-or-death situation in America right now, and if you don’t believe me, why not let Iowa Republican Sen. Joni Ernst tell it. In May, Ernst defended Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Death Bill and his elimination of life-saving Medicaid at a town hall meeting by belittling her constituents and telling them: “WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE.”

It is actually the most honest thing Ernst has ever said during her appalling reign of terror, which makes it a real irony that it also ushered in the death of her political career.

Ernst made it clear on Friday she will not seek a third term, because running on the campaign slogan, “We are all going to die,” might even be a bridge too far for some of the Trump cultists in the state, who somehow still believe they are immune to things like measles, and the truth.

I will touch on this in a minute when I’m officially done with Iowa — er, like Ernst apparently is.

The death of Ernst’s political career means another crucial U.S. Senate seat is in play, which suddenly gives life to the possibility that Democrats could pull an inside straight and gain control of the Senate next year.

It’s a long shot, sure, but already, Maine and North Carolina look ripe for the flipping, and if Democrats can get out of their own way, and demand answers to crucial questions like, why Republicans want so many of us dead, they could swipe the Senate from Trump’s rotting hands.

November 2026, is a long way off, but Democrats continued to prove they are capable of moving the political needle in Red States like Iowa Tuesday night when Catelin Drey handily defeated Republican Christopher Prosch in a district Trump won big last year.

Drey’s loud win in that state senate race smashed Republicans’ supermajority, which means their Republican governor, Kim Reynolds, will no longer be able to simply wave her magic wand to crush the hopes and dreams of Iowans. She will now actually have to legislate in something resembling a bipartisan environment.

And Drey’s win wasn’t a one-off, because Democrats in the Hawkeye State also picked off another state Senate seat in a January special election, as well as a House seat in an April special.

That’s a lot of winning in a state that’s all but been lost to Democrats since Barack Obama won it for a second time in 2012, and their Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams was only too happy to spike the football Tuesday night:

“As Trump and Republicans wreck the economy and erode democracy with power-grabbing schemes, Democrats’ special election wins should send a flashing warning to the GOP: voters are rejecting the failing MAGA agenda and leaving Republican candidates in the dust.”

The good times kept rolling in the Upper Midwest when word came out Friday that Conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley would not seek reelection next April, citing "conservative failures" for her decision.

Now “conservative failures” takes in a lot of territory, so I’ll surmise in this instance she’s talking about liberals’ convincing victories in four of past five Supreme Court races in the Cheese State, dating to 2018.

This has been an incredible run, especially when you consider that liberals had not controlled that crucial chamber for decades, and now will lead it through at least 2028.

If they can pick off Bradley’s open seat next April, they will own a stunning a 5-2 advantage on that court. Judge Chris Taylor’s the liberal running for that slot, and it can never be too early to support her.

Which takes us to Iowa’s rooftop of Minnesota, where the news went from good on Tuesday night to horrific on Wednesday morning, and gets me back to wondering why despite Ernst’s prediction that “we are all going to die,” Republicans are so damn eager to make that happen.

On Wednesday, another man with another gun slaughtered two children and wounded 17 people, mostly children, in a church attended by Catholic school children in Minneapolis.

The party of death actually outdid themselves with their response to this sickening tragedy by once again asking America to pray for these children, who were shot in a church while doing just that.

Haven’t we finally had enough this Republican carnage?

Are we finally done listening to a party that is now telling us out loud that “we are all going to die” and then doing whatever they can to make that happen?

Are we finally done with people like Captain Death himself, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is currently doing more to intentionally wipe out people than any man since Adolph Hitler?

As I type this, Kennedy is continuing his gruesome crusade to end our vaccine program in America as we know it, which, according to The World Health Organization, has saved more than 150 million lives and reduced infant deaths by 40 percent.

Can you read that again? Are we really trying to make sense of this, as if it’s in the vicinity of anything resembling normal?

While Captain Death, and his brain worms, and his drug addictions, and woman-abusing and dead animal fetishes, was in his laboratory scheming to kill millions this week, he was also eliminating key public servants who have given their professional lives to protect us.

Just this week, Susan Monarez, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was forced out of her job by Captain Death less than one month into her job for refusing to go along with this maniac’s plans to end us.

Monarez, who is still fighting the dismissal, while she fights for our lives, had her lawyers release this statement:

"When she (Monarez) refused to rubber-stamp unscientific reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts, she chose protecting the public over serving a political agenda. For that, she's been targeted."

Four other leading officials at the CDC resigned this week because they, too, had come under extreme pressure from the sickening, Kennedy. One of those officials said Kennedy’s team asked him to “change studies that have been settled in the past” to fit Kennedy’s anti-vaccine views.

Yep, “change studies.” Just make stuff it. I mean, it’s only people’s lives we are talking about …

And here’s where I remind you that the only reason the grotesque Kennedy is even in this job in the first place is … you guessed it … Republicans.

Republicans confirmed this ghoul, despite the fact he claimed COVID-19 vaccines are “the deadliest ever,” when the facts are they saved tens of millions of lives.

So I’ll ask one more time: Why do Republicans want so many of us to die?

I suggest we all keep asking this crucial question, and demanding answers while we are still around to do it.

The GOP has no one to blame but themselves for this unspeakable horror — and they know it

School shootings are now as American as baseball and apple pie.

Just the whiff of fall ushers in back-to-school ads, which appear between news stories detailing the brutal slaughter of our children in those schools.

You can set your clock to it. Every year for roughly the past three decades, we’ve known open season on our children was coming, yet we’ve done nothing about it.

Once the school doors open, so does the mass-murder of our children.

Do you know why? Because of Republicans, that’s why.

Say that with me: REPUBLICANS ARE THE CAUSE OF THE SLAUGHTER OF OUR CHILDREN.

They are to blame. No guns, no murders. Less Republicans, less shootings.

This isn’t hard to understand.

Don’t get it twisted.

We always get it twisted. We always make the cause of these shootings way too hard.

It’s not hard.

This a Republican plague on America.

If Republicans didn’t want more and more guns in this country, there’d be less and less children dead in our schools.

I know this, because it wasn’t always this way in America. It really wasn’t.

All these school shooting are a fairly recent thing, which has coincided with the increase in all the guns in this country, and Republicans’ falling at the feet of death-rattling organizations like the National Rifle Association.

There are currently more guns than people in the United States of America, and more children are dying than ever before because of it.

Again, don’t get his twisted. It’s not hard to understand.

Republicans want more guns. Democrats want less guns.

Not only do Republicans want more guns, and Democrats less guns, they want more military-grade weaponry in the hands of our citizenry. These are the kinds of guns that can kill many, many people really, really fast.

Like little children in our classrooms, for instance.

I grew up in the 1960s and 70s. There were almost no school shootings, and I was raised in a pretty tough city in New Jersey. Nobody worried about being shot in school.

Make that NOBODY.

Did these things happen on the rare occasion?

Of course, but almost never.

And when they did, people — Republicans and Democrats — were appropriately outraged by it, and vowed to make sure they would do everything possible to make sure it never happened again.

Because what kind of society would we be living in, if we accepted the slaughter of our children in their classrooms, as business as usual in America? What kind of society would we be if the best that one of the two major parties could offer up in response to these killings, was some stupid prayer.

So no, shootings weren’t a major problem when I was growing up, because there weren't all these guns that Republicans have since eagerly introduced.

Again, please don’t get this twisted.

And let me duck in here and ask a quick question: Do you want more guns, or less guns?

I bet you want less guns, because you care about our children. Everything should be done to protect our children.

Democrats believe that. Republicans don’t.

Don’t get it twisted.

Me? I don’t want any guns. NONE. Zero.

I was in the service, and I know what guns do. Guns are designed for one purpose: to kill things.

Let’s say that again, too, America: GUNS ARE DESIGNED FOR ONE PURPOSE: TO KILL THINGS.

That’s all they are good for: KILLING THINGS.

Why do people want to kill things?

That’s a real damn problem right there. It’s sick.

If you want to kill things, you are a complete sicko.

Broken.

Again don’t get it twisted. Don’t make it hard.

I haven’t touched a gun since I was in the military, because guns kill things. People who have guns have them for one reason: to kill things.

But, sure, let’s introduce more and more guns into our society. Let’s make them available everywhere. Let’s make guns easier to get than registering to vote.

All these guns are a Republican problem. They have even gotten to the point of telling us that more guns make us safer.

Seriously.

Republicans want people to have more guns to protect themselves from all the guns out there.

Now THAT’S twisted.

An anecdote. When I was growing up in the 1960s and 70s, All in the Family was the No. 1 TV show in America for many years. The protagonist, Archie Bunker, was basically a well-meaning bigot, who generally collapsed under the weight of his own ignorance by the end of each episode.

Back then we didn’t have many mass-murders in our schools, but we did have the occasional hijacking. So what was Archie’s answer to this problem?

Arm everybody on the plane, so that they could shoot any prospective hijacker that boarded said plane.

Talk about twisted ...

But we knew twisted logic back then. We knew that more guns meant more killings. We knew Archie was a complete idiot. Occasionally lovable, but an idiot.

Now we don’t, because Republicans are telling us they think more guns will mean less school shootings. It’s as if we have thousands of Archie Bunkers running our country.

Oh, and did I mention Archie was a bigot? Because the biggest single year-on-year increase in gun sales until COVID, was the year Barack Obama was elected …

Republicans tell us more guns will make us safer when they know for a fact that America is the only place in the civilized world where mass-murder has been reduced to just another way of life — before death, that is ...

I have lived all over this world, and America is the only place I worry about being shot to death when I go into a mall, a movie theater, a restaurant, a school, a library, a museum, a zoo, or attend a parade or a ballgame.

People in other countries think we are completely out of our minds.

You know why? Because they know that if we didn’t have all of these guns we wouldn’t have all of these shootings.

They aren’t twisted.

Are you still twisted? Is this hard to understand? It shouldn’t be, because again: Guns kill things. The more guns, the more killings.

Say, have you seen that the racist in the White House is currently introducing more guns into our cities to keep them safer?

The children in our cities, small towns and suburbs are under attack from mass-murdering madmen with guns. So what’s he doing? Sending our military and their guns into our cities, while warning about immigrants eating our dogs and cats in those suburbs.

Talk about twisted.

This afternoon, hundreds of lives will never be the same because a man with a gun slaughtered two children and wounded 17 others in a church attended by Catholic school children in Minneapolis.

Who then has the gall, besides every grotesque Republican in America, to think the appropriate response to this tragedy is to pray for these children, when they were shot in a church … praying?

Apparently they don’t see the sheer hypocrisy and evil insult in this.

Twisted.

America has Republicans to thank for our children’s bloody bodies being splattered all over the walls, floors and ceilings of our schools.

THEY ARE TO BLAME.

I am literally praying we don’t get this reasoning twisted yet again ...

What a nation under siege looks like

I’d just voted for Hillary Clinton, and after watching her swat away the hulking schlub who stalked her on the debate stage three different times, was confident enough she’d win.

The final dreaded poll in the battleground state of Wisconsin had her outside the margin of error at a comfortable +6, or right about how Barack Obama had fared twice up here.

In only hours, the racist loudmouth was FINALLY going to be sent packing. Oh sure, he would never go away for good, but it was going to be a real win-win for everybody. Trump would raise his profile, cash in, and begin crawling out of his massive debt, and we’d have another president who understood the nuances of governing, and treated little things like liberty and justice for all with the urgency they demanded.

By 10 o’clock that evening, America was fully engulfed in a five-alarm fire. He could actually win …

By midnight, and around the time Wisconsin was officially called for the vulgar pig, our nation had fallen, and the President of the United States had devolved from a prince into a pumpkin.

That’s when I went into a state of shock, turned off the TV, poured another drink, and repeated these six words over and over: “Nothing will ever be the same.”

By 3 a.m., and three drinks later, I was mumbling six more words to myself: “Nobody will be safe ever again.”

I picked up my phone and called my daughter in the UK, who was just waking up to the news. I said two more words: “I’m sorry.”

You will have your own story to tell about the night the blast hit, and how you processed it ...

Nine years later, it has been far worse than I thought it would be. After valiantly fighting back from the shock of that ice-cold night, and restoring some order and safeguards to our democracy, a majority of Americans doubled down this past November, and decided to give their vote to the loathsome man, who by now had added “America-attacker” and “convicted felon” to a résumé that began and ended with “White Nationalist.”

Nothing in my life has gone the way I thought it would on the afternoon of Nov. 8, 2016. That damn election changed everything. If we were capable of doing THAT, we were capable of doing anything.

As a journalist who mostly viewed politics with disdain, I turned on a dime and became very damn political. As a man who did most of his work as an observer from the outside, I jumped inside the fray. I began writing earnestly, ended up with a book, became a general nuisance, knocked on doors, burned old friendships, kindled new ones, and ended up protesting on the Square here in Madison so many times I was given a reserved parking spot for my skinny a--.

I became an accidental activist. My journalism career morphed from news to commentary, because it was time to say what needed saying.

Writing is my salvation, which is the only thing that isn’t new in my life. My marriage with the written word started more than 50 years ago, and has been the most dependable thing in what really has been a hard and mostly wonderful life.

Lately, I’ve hung a shingle on Substack alongside hundreds of other earnest typists, who put heart to paper. Some of my work appears pretty regularly in other places on the Web, but most dependably at Raw Story, which is staffed by a feisty group of underdog journalists who keep their eye on the ball, our nation’s declining condition, and aren’t afraid to punch down hard on fascism.

Far too many in the working press I once revered failed miserably to do the only thing they had to do: their damn jobs, by reporting on and warning people about the most dangerous time in America since the Civil War.

My anger and heartache over their negligence and incompetence will never subside.

They didn't meet the moment. Worse, some cashed in on it.

Around here, paid subscribers come and go, but lucky for me, I’m not doing this to get rich. Truth is, there’s no money in journalism. Never has been. And a tip: Never trust a journalist who says they are in it for the money, because they will sell you down the nearest river, and leave you soaking wet.

When people go, I politely ask for feedback, because one thing’s for sure: I can always do better. Here is what they are overwhelmingly telling me these days:

“I’m tired.”

And you just sighed with sympathetic understanding …

It’s the price we pay for having the decency and love of country to pay attention.

We are being asked to process a helluva lot, good people. Walk away from it all for even a few hours, and you come back to find our museums under attack, troops in OUR streets, and public servants working to protect things like our benefits, our personal information, and our air and water on the firing line.

As I type this, Trump is accommodating the murdering Vladimir Putin by surrendering to him on American soil.

This is what a nation under siege looks like.

There’s not been a lot of blood — not yet — but sure as I’m typing this, that’s coming, too. Trump and his Republican Orcs are bringing plenty of hurt, and they aim to end America as we both know, and knew, it.

They do this by making us all sick and tired ... They do this because they hate America.

To those of you who need a break, go. Get the rest you need. You deserve it. I think I speak for everybody when I say, “Thank you for your support and all your efforts. We’ll be here waiting if you decide to return. We will no doubt be in need of reinforcements, and a sturdy shoulder to lean on.”

To those who stay, thank you.

It’s the only way through this.

We can stand and fight, or retreat. We can dare to care, or just say the hell with it. We can die on this hill, or we can conquer it.

We’re all tired.

Me? I’ll sleep when I’m dead.

D. Earl Stephens is the author of “Toxic Tales: A Caustic Collection of Donald J. Trump’s Very Important Letters” and finished up a 30-year career in journalism as the Managing Editor of Stars and Stripes. You can find all his work here.

This bootlicking concession to Trump is simply stunning

Let’s start here today: Our legacy media is dead.

For some, this pronouncement is long overdue, and might be best labeled “old news.” For people like me, who spent their professional life in a newsroom as part of a team that turned around timely content called “real news” to their readers, while also calling power into account, this declaration officially wipes out everything I once believed in and held dear.

Watching our old, tired legacy media like The New York Times and The Washington Post cover this Russia charade, mislabeled a “summit,” and Trump's meeting with European leaders in Washington this week has completely knocked me over the edge. I’ll let you tell me how badly the gushing toothies on TV are botching this up, because I quit watching their 24/7 screeching with any regularity years ago.

We have reached the point where these incompetents can’t even get the nut of the story right. It’s no longer news that the nuclear-powered narcissist, Donald Trump, is posturing to get every spotlight turned in his direction no matter how big or small a story. Yet the media comes running with their hair on fire every time he beckons.

However … It IS news — URGENT NEWS — when European prime ministers and presidents drop everything they are doing and fly into the United States with their hair on fire to oppose the actions of its unstable, authoritarian leader, and back the man who is fighting for his life and his country’s democracy, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

It’s news because THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.

Yet, in their breathless play-by-play coverage you never saw it reported that way. Instead, here is what we got all day Monday and into Tuesday as these incompetent morons, who dare to call themselves “journalists” were led around by their noses, which are always in the general vicinity of Trump’s two-ton a--:

"Trump just said this!"
"Now Trump said that!"
“Trump is doing this!”
“And now Trump is doing that!”
"What will Trump do next????”

There was literally no fact-checking, nor important context. They just repeated his endless bull that was all designed to go absolutely nowhere, because the most important person in these negotiations wasn’t even on location. And why should he have been? Russian President Vladimir Putin had already emasculated the President of the United States after getting red-carpet treatment in Alaska on Friday, and had gone home to Russia to resume bombing the bejesus out of Ukraine.

So Trump did what he does best, and spoke on behalf of Putin, while arguing against everybody else.

It was appalling.

But there was our legacy media, who somehow thought reporting all that bull in real time was some sort of journalistic feat, when in reality they just come off like a bunch of drunken parrots.

Things are no better than they were on Thursday, when it comes to Russia’s inhumane, illegal attack on Ukraine, they are miles worse. Because God only knows what the two most dangerous leaders in the world talked about while the cameras were mercifully shut off during their dangerous, private meetings the past five days.

I can guess it sounded something like this:

PUTIN: “Never forget who put you in office, Donald.”
TRUMP: “No worries there, sir. I got everybody, but mostly the idiots in the media, eating out of my hand.”

Here is the vitally important context I didn’t read ONCE in all the legacy media’s atrocious coverage of this s-–– show the past 24 hours:

“Putin, who Trump actually asked for help in the 2016 campaign …”

Or

“Putin, who Trump has repeatedly fawned over, even calling the murderous dictator among other things ‘a genius' …’”

Or

“Putin, who Trump surrendered to in Helsinki in 2018, when pressed if there was Russia interference into the 2016 election, when his own Republican Party had determined there was …”

Or

“Putin, who after winning the 2007 Time Magazine Man of the Year Award, received a letter from Trump that gushed: “As you probably have heard, I’m a big fan of yours!”

Or

“Putin, who allowed Trump to host his Miss Universe beauty pageant in Moscow in 2013, and received yet another note from Trump which read: “Will you become my new best friend?”

I could go on and on here, but you get the point, even if the dangerous dummies in our legacy media don’t: Any relationship Trump has with his BFF Putin is at best suspect, but most likely is completely compromised.

Shouldn’t readers and viewers be aware of this right off the top and reminded of it repeatedly?

And what of the 50-plus times Trump said on the 2024 campaign trail that he would end Russia's attack on Ukraine during his first 24 hours in office. I read scores of stories in the legacy media Monday, and this was never reported even ONCE. Further, he was not asked about this even ONCE in those weird sit-downs with the press in that grotesque, golden room, where his tie drags on the floor and he does that weird accordion thing with his hands.

They aren't even bothering to try to hold this liar accountable anymore.

And what about that lying? Because it is all this blabbering loudmouth does.

In just the last 10 days he’s told preposterous lies about Russia, the 2020 election, Jeffrey Epstein, jobs, crime, inflation, Project 2025, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and mail-in voting.

Add this to the tens of thousands of times he has lied in his professional life about all things big and small, and you’d think he would have lost ALL benefit of the doubt 10 years ago.

Instead, our legacy media still hangs on his every word.

It is ABSURD.

They don’t even make lying a small feature of the story, when in fact all his lying IS THE DAMN STORY.

There is not one report or story about about Trump that should make it past the third paragraph without this being inserted for context:

“Trump, who has a long history of lying about [insert subject] …”

WHY isn’t this being done?

Here is the thing that should keep us all awake at night: If Trump, a convicted felon, can wipe out the truth — and he is well on his way — he can wipe out everything this country was founded on, and begin working to wipe us out, and everything we once stood for.

This is exactly what Putin, and every other fascist leader on earth wants.

It can never stop being headline news that Trump is the most notorious liar in the history of the United States.

It should have never become headline news that our legacy media decided to quit reporting that.

But here we are, and neither one should ever be trusted again.

One basic truth about Trump's America chills me to the bone

I am back to pondering how in the hell we got here, because try as I might, I will never understand how a thoughtful, caring person who truly loves his or her country, could vote for a racist monster and America-attacking convicted felon like Donald Trump, or any politician who supports him.

I can’t get past it, but more than that, I refuse to.

And let’s get this out of the way early: Yes, I understand that the Democratic Party has issues, and a severe image problem right now, but it is preposterous to think that our democracy wouldn’t be on far safer footing if they were in charge.

It’s preposterous to think our environment, women’s rights, human rights, rights to healthcare, JOBS, and clean air and water would be in jeopardy if Democrats were in charge.

It’s preposterous to think that measles would be making a comeback, cancer research would be canceled, and our personal information would be in the hands of some snot-nosed, 28-year-old tech bro if Democrats were in charge.

I was triggered again today by a classic New York Times clickbait piece headlined: “These are the voters who should scare Democrats most”

Subhead: Working-class Americans who until recently voted Democratic said the party should not count on a backlash to President Trump to win them back. Still, there were pockets of opportunity.”

The Times talked to “30 predominantly working-class voters who supported Mr. Biden in 2020 before defecting or struggling deeply with their choices last year, and many had a stinging message for the Democratic Party.”

These “working class” voters are disillusioned by seemingly everything, which I actually understand during all this chaos, even if I am getting sick and damn tired of this overused term, “working class.” That they think Republicans are doing a single thing for them, except taking more of their money and their rights, is what I don’t understand.

If you want to say, America deserves better from its two major political parties, you have a sympathetic ear. But if you want to say both parties are the same after watching the first seven months of this morally busted GOP regime, then you are intellectually lazy, completely dishonest with yourself, racist, or likely some combination of all three.

Democrats demonstrably stand up for America’s best ideals: Liberty and justice FOR ALL. Republicans demonstrably stand up for the few, and these bloated billionaires, who are currently standing on our throats thanks to the big pay day they just got in that galling big, beautiful bill.

As I was researching this piece with a steady grumble, I came across another NYT story written by Thomas B. Edsall and headlined: How liberalism went to die on the Texas-Arkansas border

Edsall’s deep dive starts this way:

Few communities in America prospered as much as Texarkana during President Joe Biden’s four years in the White House, and few communities were more ungrateful than the voters of that region, which is anchored around twin cities spread across the Texas-Arkansas border.

In 2024, in spite of economic growth under a Democratic president at rates unheard-of in decades, residents of Texarkana turned around and cast a higher percentage of their ballots for Donald Trump than ever before.

Read that one again.

What the hell are we suppose to do with this? What the hell is a politician or a political party supposed to do, if not providing the voters with better opportunities to improve their lives? What the hell is a politician or a political party supposed to do if they are penalized for that?

More from the piece:

During the four years from January 2021 to January 2025 — the years of Biden’s presidency — the unemployment rate in the Texarkana metropolitan area fell to 4.2 percent from 6.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The metro region’s gross domestic product had experienced sluggish growth from 2010 ($5.04 billion) through 2020 ($5.8 billion). After Biden took office, however, the region’s G.D.P. shot up, reaching $7.2 billion in 2023, the most recent figure available at the Federal Reserve.

And what did Biden and Democrats get for all this?

In 2020, Texarkana, which is made up of Miller County, Ark., and Bowie County, Texas, voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump — 72.3 percent to 27.7 percent for Biden, a 44.6-point margin. In 2024, despite the growth of green industry and economic improvement during the Biden years, Trump beat Kamala Harris in the Texarkana counties with 75.4 percent of the vote and 24.6 percent for Harris, an immense 50.8-point margin.

They actually LOST votes. It really is mind-blowing …

It’s not the economy, stupid.

We have just passed the eighth anniversary of the repulsive Charlottesville chapter of our country’s bumpy history that is forever chained to its original sin.

Thousands of white men marched on this Virginia city and for white supremacy on August 11-12, 2017, in something called a “Unite the Right” rally replete with their toxic hate and Tiki torches for effect.

On the second day of this ode to hate, James Alex Fields Jr., a self-proclaimed admirer of Adolf Hitler, plowed his car into the crowd which had assembled to peacefully oppose the racist hell that had arrived on their streets.

A young activist and daughter of Charlottesville, Heather Heyer, was killed instantly and scores of others were injured by the speeding vehicle. I have learned many have not fully physically recovered, and still more are suffering from the psychological impact of that day.

Trump, a career racist, who only a year earlier couldn’t garner the endorsement of a single major newspaper during his dirty run for the presidency, but did get a ringing nod from the KKK, could not bring himself to properly condemn the gruesome event. Instead, extolled the virtues of the “very fine people on both sides” of this terrorist attack.

Like his surrender to Vladimir Putin in Helsinki the following year, it will always be impossible to un-hear or un-see these appalling events.

Joe Biden has said it was the revolting incident in Charlottesville that spurred him to run for the presidency three years later, because he, too, knew he could not live with himself or in a country that promoted this kind of detestable hate.

Which brings me full circle in my reckoning with a country predominated by people who are impossible to love or respect. I believe what happened on that tragic day in Charlottesville eight years ago explains better than anything else what the good people who believe in liberty and justice for all in this country are up against.

It certainly explains what is happening in Washington, D.C., right now in yet another quaking moment, because even if you disagree with everything I have typed here today, you damn well better understand this:

Trump didn't invade our capital again because there is some invented crime problem ... Just as he didn't invade it four-plus years ago, because there was some invented election problem ... He did it both times to throw red meat to his racist base who elected him across the country. He did it to appease the people, who live in ungodly places like that Texas-Arkansas border, who hate our cities — but mostly the people of color who live in them.

And I just can’t get past it. But more than that, I refuse to ...

How to bring Trump to his knees

As a man who slings opinion, and is an expert on all that is wrong, I am often asked what we can do to stave off all this evil, and make things right?

Occasionally, I’ll have a pretty good answer, but more times than not, I am just a writer with a leaky pen, who can spell out a problem with no real idea how to cross it out.

When seemingly everything’s wrong, the only selfish answer I have to fight off what afflicts us is to write.

This admittedly seems wholly inadequate while we stare down this relentless, wicked attack from the dark forces that have assembled seemingly out of nowhere, and with blinding speed to turn out our light.

If you are reading this piece, the chances are better than reasonable that you care about the condition of your wounded country and the millions of people who are suffering in it.

This is both a curse and a precious gift.

It’s a curse, of course, because wherever you are, our nation’s menacing shadow chases you. Try as you might, you can’t escape it, at least not for long.

Taking it all in as the sky-blue ocean kisses some sun-splashed beach is chased away by the thought of what we are doing to our oceans and that sky, because of the lifeless corporate raiders, who think of nothing but profits and themselves.

Mother Nature’s vivid colors temporarily turn to black before, like the tides, they recede from our mind, and return anew so we can enjoy these magic moments.

You are a humanitarian, and a lover of life — all life. If you are like me, you grieve the loss of a random animal more than you do the random person. That’s not a slam on people necessarily, but let’s face it, too many of them are rotten to the core. They take, and give nothing back. They support evil, instead of suppressing it. They talk without thinking. They follow without looking, and refuse to stop long enough to see the damage they are doing, or much of anything on this Earth that is truly worth the time.

Not only do they lack the sixth sense of our beautiful animal friends, they seem to lack any sense at all …

So for all your caring, you are rewarded with a world of hurt.

You know it would be easier to just say the hell with it, and join the millions on the sidelines who take things as they come, and just as much as they can for themselves.

Well, I thought today that you should know you are not alone, and that you are loved for your soulfulness, fight and compassion.

You are loved because people make the mistake of thinking you are weak for crying, when the truth is you are enormously brave for letting it all in. You are loved because processing all this hell and trying to spin it into hope is a hero’s chore, and we’ve never needed heroes more.

I take heart that you are out there, my friends, and more than you can possibly know. You are the very best among us. You are a friend and advocate to the animals, and the good people who are scared and suffering alone. You are a shoulder to lean on.

Together we form the line, that will never be crossed ...

We must continue to remind people, but mostly each other, that there are millions of us, and we aren’t going away. We are proliferating … strong.

We’ll have our day, I swear to God we will, but for now we have each other, and that, good people, is a blessing.

NOW READ: Trump's already feeling the pain as this jilted ally plots revenge

This insanity proves Trump wants to take us all with him to his grave

I have become convinced that while the repulsive, 79-year-old Donald Trump slowly shrivels up and dies right in front of our eyes, he is going to do everything in his power to take as many Americans as possible to his bomb-crater-sized grave with him.

How else to explain the latest news pointing to just how little he and his disintegrating, America-attacking political party value life?

On Tuesday, which was just the latest, longest 24-hour stretch in America history, the quickly deteriorating Trump was seen on the roof of the White House screaming at people about nuclear weapons, and God knows what else, while the madman he appointed to run the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) completely into the ground, was proudly announcing the rollback of nearly $500 million dollars in vaccine funding.

Here’s where we all stop for five seconds to let that sink in …

In fact, read that again: The madman who Trump appointed to HHS was proudly announcing the rollback of nearly $500 million dollars in vaccine funding.

This insane, dangerous announcement comes on the charred heels of our nation’s bloody bout with COVID-19 in which more than one million Americans perished. Countless millions are still suffering the effects of this pandemic and might never recover. Well, the ghoulish Republican Party have all but forgotten them, and in record time …

These people don’t value life, they get off on death.

Instead of answers and more science and discovery to make sure we are ready for the next mass-medical emergency, Trump instead has inflicted us with this gruesome stray from the Kennedy dynasty, who is quickly becoming a one-man pandemic.

His approach to science makes chugging Lysol seem almost reasonable.

“This is a bad day for science,” Scott Hensley, an immunologist at the University of Pennsylvania, who has been working to develop an mRNA vaccine against influenza said in The New York Times.

Here’s more on the grotesque funding cuts from that NYT piece Wednesday:

First used during the Covid-19 pandemic by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, mRNA shots instruct the body to produce a fragment of a virus, which then sets off the body’s immune response.

Unlike traditional vaccines, which can take years to develop and test, mRNA shots can be made within months and quickly altered as the virus changes. The technology won a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023.

But Kennedy doesn’t trust science, even though science saved his life after a parasitic worm ate into his brain.

This was from the clunky news release out of Kennedy’s sick and fast-eroding HHS Tuesday:

“We reviewed the science, listened to the experts, and acted,” said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “BARDA is terminating 22 mRNA vaccine development investments because the data show these vaccines fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections like COVID and flu. We’re shifting that funding toward safer, broader vaccine platforms that remain effective even as viruses mutate.”

What “experts” was this complete moron listening to? Most likely, the voices inside his head have only gotten louder.

The fact is vaccines save lives, and the sooner they can be produced the better.

Like Kennedy, I am no medical expert, but I can accurately tell you that vaccines have saved hundreds of millions of lives the past century.

They have literally been a life-changing discovery.

Further, it is estimated that 317,000 lives in the United States alone would have been saved during the COVID outbreak had people just gotten vaccinated. Instead, many were discouraged from doing so by public-health hazards like Kennedy. No surprise, most of these people lived in Red States with West Virginia, Wyoming, Kentucky, Tennessee and Oklahoma leading the way.

These are also the Republican-led states most likely to ban books, defend guns, and support their dying, orange leader who lately is standing on roofs, and defending pedophiles.

Really, I could care less if the Republicans in these backward states want to kill themselves, but their toxic ignorance and recklessness are putting the lives of innocent children and other good-hearted people in jeopardy. Instead of acting for the common good, they have jammed their fingers inside their ears, and locked themselves deep inside a cult, which makes them both dangerous as hell and pathetic.

Here’s what Jennifer Nuzzo, director of the Pandemic Center at the Brown University School of Public Health had to say after Kennedy’s death wish yesterday:

“By issuing this wildly incorrect statement, the secretary is demonstrating his commitment to his long-held goal of sowing doubts about all vaccines. Had we not used these lifesaving mRNA vaccines to protect against severe illness, we would have had millions of more Covid deaths.”

We would have had millions of more Covid deaths …

It will come as no surprise that the dreadful Kennedy has repeatedly been drawn to the Holocaust and Hitler’s Nazy Germany to make his case against vaccines that save millions of lives.

During the middle of a pandemic that was killing millions around the world he said this at an anti-vaxxer rally, comparing getting vaccines to dying in death camps:

“Even in Hitler’s Germany you could cross the Alps into Switzerland … you could hide in an attic like Anne Frank did.”

You can read that one again, too, if you like, but it was no one-off, because abominations like Kennedy can never stop themselves.

He has in the past called the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention a “Nazi death camp.”

Even when he was against Trump, before he was with him when offered enough rope to try to hang all of us, he again tipped his hat to Hitler:

“And, you know, (Trump’s) not like Hitler. Hitler had like a plan, you know, Hitler was interested in policy.”

Yes, he had a plan, you morbid, dangerous a------ ...

And if you think I have gone too far here, I will continue to warn you that I am only getting warmed up.

Because unless the people who value life, vaccines, clean air and water, gun control, education, science, democracy, books, and healthcare do everything in their power to stop this fascist takeover, sickos like Kennedy and Trump will do everything they can to rub us out before they meet their maker.

Stopping them just as soon as we can has literally become a matter of life or death.

A very important 'letter' from Donald Trump

Dear Undeserving Americans,

It was been many years since I have written you a Very Important Letter, but with all the good news out there right now, I thought it was important for you to hear from me again in this terrific forum of collateral damage, and disintegrating ideas.

I want to remind everybody who is new to reading my Very Important Letters that much like Presidents Jefferson, Franklin and Eisenhowzer before me, my words are terrifically eloquent, sometimes gigantic, and are best read slowly so that you can appreciate their meaning as much as I do.

So I will appreciate it in advance if you could stop doing whatever it is you are doing right now, and give me, your greatest president, all the time I deserve to read slowly on this fine morning. You will thank me for this when you’re done, so you are welcome in advance.

Before I get into all the tremendous things I have done for you since beginning my third term in office, I want to address these ergonomic and horrible job numbers that came out for no, good rotten reason Friday from a very nasty woman who used to work for the traitor, sleepy Joe Biden.

In addition to inexcusably looking like a complete dog in her dress, she has no idea what she is talking about. The economy has never been better in the entire history of America, and all the people I know have never had more money in their pockets. This is important because when all the people I know have money, that means the people they know have lots of money, too, and before you know it we all have lots of money to spend on things you are selling.

WE stimulate YOUR economy and you can thank us all — but mostly me — for that. This isn’t easy on us, and mostly me.

Why just the other day, I bought the tall kid who lives in New York with Melanie, a fancy train set. When I was told he had outgrown that kind of stuff, I bought him a strip club on Long Island.

I hear he is doing very well, and hope to see him during my next trip to the city. I will be bringing three suitcases full of two-dollar bills to stimulate the economy of the strip club. See how that works?

You are welcome in advance for me doing all that for you, for him, and for them. Oh, and let me tell ya, that kid has gotten tall. Not as tall as me yet, but still remarkably and tremendously tall.

So back to this terrible, terrible woman, who could never work in a strip club by the way, for putting out these sanctimonious job numbers yesterday. She obviously hates this country, and for as long as I am around she will never work again. And because of her horrible, disgusting numbers, I will now be the one reporting numbers like this for the foreseeable future, which will basically be a very, very long time because my eyesight is incredibly good as you can imagine, and can foresee many tremendous and not so tremendous things.

Why I’m still the only one who saw me winning the election in 2020.

You’d think I already had enough to do, but these numbers have to be just right, and I will take the time to make sure they are.

For now on, everything I say and report will be the truth, so that you don’t have to worry about it. As your overwhelming president, what is important is what I think is true, because I am really the only one who matters here or knows the truth. I know you appreciate it and worship me when I tell you things straight, whether they are true or not, so you are welcome for me being so straight with you when I could be crooked like Obama.

In addition to giving out all the terrific and sensational numbers we all like to hear, it will also streamline the government process for doing these kinds of things, and save the taxpayer, you, not me (because as you know, I don't pay taxes), lots, and lots of money. So you see I am doing this all for you, and you can thank me for that whenever you feel like it, but just as soon as possible so you don’t forget. Maybe right now.

You’re welcome.

You know, I really can’t believe nobody has thought of this terrific idea before, but I am glad it was me and I expect people will be talking about this for many years and probably centuries. It will be right up there with President Franklin discovering electricity while flying his kite on the White House lawn.

I’m still shocked he wasn’t electrocuted …

That’s a joke, you dummies. Laugh.

What isn’t a joke is all the sensational numbers I will be providing you in the future. You know these outdated elections we have in this country with all the broken down voting machines? Forgot about them. I will be presenting the numbers in the future.

If a result doesn’t sound right to me, I will give you a number that does, and it will be the only thing that really matters.

All numbers for now on will be revised to meet my incredibly high expectations.

I am hoping that if this all goes as planned, you will never have to vote again, and can take more time for yourselves and for me.

You’re welcome.

This will also make things easier for me, because sometimes I need to reward myself for all I have done for you. This isn’t fair to me, but I get it, you can’t think of me all the time, but you can never try hard enough.

I am always here for you, and for me, and plan to be for the next decade or so.

Speaking of making things easier for me, this morning I had another physical with my doctor who told me that my ankles had lost 10lbs. since the last time he checked on them.

This was obviously great news, because I’ve always had sensational ankles. I was always very proud of my ankles and thought they did a terrific job connecting my knees to my feet. Much better than average.

Anyway, after he told me my ankles had lost weight, he made kind of a sad noise.

I asked him why he was making sad noises after bringing me such joy that my ankles had lost weight, and he said, “Well, that’s the good news. The bad news is that you are still 322lbs.”

I told him that number didn’t sound right, especially after all the incredible, sensational work I had done in the state-of-the-arts gym at Mar-a-Lago, home to the fattest steaks and thinnest broads on the planet. Just the other day I walked a plank and bench-pressed my caddie.

So when my doctor insisted on telling me I weighed 322lbs., I fired him.

See how easy that is?

Just so you know, my number is 185lbs., and thanks to that, I’ve never felt better. Light as a feather, and such a weight off my broad shoulders, on which I carry the entire world like Atilla the Hun ...

Well, I’d like to stay here and keeping bringing you incredible numbers, but I have a hard-earned tee time this morning. I’ll be playing with Lindsey, who has become incredibly good at putting numbers on the scorecard that sound right to me.

But before I go, I want to say a prayer for Ghislaine Maxwell, who has been treated so, so terribly by our corrupt, lying, no-good, awful media.

This whole Epstein thing has been incredibly and terrifically hard on me as you can imagine. The guy was stealing girls from me, and now because he killed himself in prison I have to answer for all of it. I don’t know who the jack--- was that was president when all this happened, but I’ll tell you what, he should hang like Mike Pence almost did.

Now they are going after Ghislaine who was babysitting all these girls that Jeffrey was stealing from me. Well, not on my watch they’re not. I expect her testimony will clear everything up. She can get a job at the tall kid’s strip joint, and I can go back to feeding everybody numbers that feel right to me.

This has all been so, so unfair to me.

Where was I? Oh yeah, a prayer …

“Dear Father in the artmost skies. Please bring they shepherds to look down on the flocks of people who walk this earth without sandals. See that their ankles don’t swell too much, and that they bring gold, crypto and mirth to thy cradle of wealth. In Moses’s name we ask that my commandments are heard, and that those who stray from the beast are struck down with lightning from the heavens. -Amen”

Sorry, if that wasn’t as powerful as my usual prayer, but I have spent more then enough time on you this morning, and you can thank me for that the very first chance you get.

You’re welcome.

May God bless the fruits on your plane.

NOW READ: There's a very simple reason why Trump will never release the Epstein files

D. Earl Stephens is the author of “Toxic Tales: A Caustic Collection of Donald J. Trump’s Very Important Letters” and in addition to finishing up this latest letter, finished a 30-year career in journalism as the Managing Editor of Stars and Stripes. You can find all his work here.

There's a very simple reason why Trump will never release the Epstein files

Let’s get right to it, because time is not on our side, America: Donald Trump won’t order the release of the Epstein files because he is prominently featured in them.

Bare minimum, he associated with pedophiles.

Why is this so hard to understand?

Why isn’t this the end of the road for this monster?

Why isn’t this the only thread that is being pulled on right now with urgency by our bought-off and/or incompetent mainstream media?

Or did I just answer my own question?

Why isn’t every American calling (202) 224-3121 (that's the U.S. Capitol switchboard) and demanding that Trump release the Epstein files like he said he would on the campaign trail?

Thank God, identifying and stomping out pedophiles is not yet a partisan issue in America.

An unheard of 82 percent of Americans — including 76 percent of Republicans — want these files released immediately. And while Democrats are doing what they procedurally can to get at the files, it will take time that we should all have decided by now that we do not have.

Shouldn’t Americans know, and just as soon as possible, the full details of their president's relationship with a man who raped children? And shouldn’t THAT finally end the long, national nightmare we have endured for 10 years, while this dirty old man breaks everything in his blurry sight?

  • We know without a shadow of a doubt that the man is a grotesque racist.
  • We know without a shadow of a doubt he is a convicted felon, who assaults women.
  • We know without a shadow of a doubt he cheats on his taxes even more than he has cheated on all his wives.
  • We know without a shadow of a doubt he is a nuclear-powered liar, who is simply incapable of telling the truth, and lied 30,573 times the first time he tried to sink this country.
  • We know without a shadow of a doubt he invited Russia to help him win the 2016 election, and then refused to call them on it in Helsinki.
  • We know without a shadow of a doubt he is using the White House as his own personal ATM, and by many estimates has already pocketed billions of our dollars in crypto and airplanes, while taking endless vacations to his golf properties all over the world on our dime.
  • We know without a shadow of a doubt he stalked girls in the dressing rooms of Miss Teen USA beauty competitions, because “(He's) seen it all before, and (he’s) the owner of the pageant. And therefore (he’s) inspecting it.”

These are his words.

HIS WORDS.

And now we know that the shadow of doubt concerning his real relationship with Epstein and his victims is receding into the light, because this is where we are right now, good people:

Given Trump’s new-found executive powers granted to him by our corrupt Supreme Court that are fit for a king, we can be assured that if there wasn't any damning evidence in these melting files that point to grotesque behavior with stolen children — or even better for him, there were names of his political enemies mentioned in the thing — he would have ordered these files replace the Bible in all these Christo-fascist churches as must-read material for his gurgling and snorting cult. In other words: It would be EVERYWHERE right now. There would be endless celebratory, back-patting press conferences, and Trump would order that it be read slowly, and with emphasis, on the CBS Evening News, which he recently acquired to add to his budding propaganda kingdom. You couldn’t escape it.

Except he’s doing none of this, is he?

Instead, he’s turning that certain color of rust orange, as he bends over at the waist, barrel-butt out, his 6-foot tie scraping his fat ankles, while his little, chubby hands do that weird accordion thing as he lashes out at anybody within his odious vicinity.

He’s posting INSANE distractions on his SOCIAL media channels THAT are ODDly capitalized and carrY the grammatical WAIT of a 4-year-OLD who has Trapped himself in a DOOR jam.

They have quietly moved the disgusting Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's ex-girlfriend and co-conspirator, to a cushy federal prison in Texas. WHY?

Trump has no answers, which is why we need to keep asking this question:

WHY WON’T YOU JUST SHUT UP AND RELEASE THE DAMN FILES LIKE YOU SAID YOU WOULD?

Meantime, the stink has somehow gotten even worse, because there is breaking news that it has taken only six months for Trump to destroy the solid economy Joe Biden helped meticulously build after inheriting Trump’s mess in 2021 following the attempted insurrection.

Trump inherited the strongest economy in the entire world, and has screwed it up in record time. Job growth has stalled again, and is at a 16-year low — or the last time a Democrat was fixing a battered economy left in shambles by a Republican.

Prices are rising, not falling.

Why did anybody think it would be any different this time around?

Here’a another fact that never gets enough attention: Democrats make economies and Republicans break them. Go ahead, look that up.

I could stand to hear a helluva lot more about this, too, because while billionaires are being rewarded like never before in America, the rest of us are getting royally screwed.

The numbers back this up.

Right now, though, I want to know why our president is providing safe haven for pedophiles.

Based on what we know, you’d have to be a damn fool not to believe the worst.
