DC insider warns Trump is going to take the money and run

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville, who famously helped Bill Clinton win the 1992 presidential election, has previously predicted that President Donald Trump will lose in the 2026 midterm elections because of his unpopular war against Iran and similarly unpopular economic policies.

Now Carville is arguing that, when Democrats retake one or both houses of Congress, they should consider getting Trump to leave office before his term ends in 2029 by convincing him he can keep the money he has unethically earned in office if he simply resigns.

"I think the Democratic leadership in January or February of the year 2027, go to Trump and say, 'This is the deal. If you resign, we will not pursue your money. Congress is not gonna do that,'" Carville argued. "And to some extent that you can have [Vice President] JD Vance pardon you. That's, again, for terms of federal prosecution. That's it, I don't know if I would be for that or not. Would you support a measure that would defer clawing back to billions of dollars? It's way more than we could imagine. That's been stolen by him, or say steal, maybe I want to say misappropriated."

Acknowledging that his argument presumes Democratic victory, he nevertheless argued that Democrats need to at least ponder this possibility.

"I did want to plant that little seed because public opinion is more powerful than you think," Carville said. "And what's really gonna be powerful when the Democrats have all these seats is the opinion of Democratic voters and donors and activists and supporters and you gotta kind of people, frankly, that listen to this YouTube channel."

He continued, "So we don't have to take any action right now. It doesn't have to be an issue and it won't be an issue in a campaign. They might be asking some people about investigations and they just have to answer it. I mean, the laws are broken, you gotta investigate it, all that. But think about that. Would you — the question is, would you favor, in return for Trump's immediate resignation and probable pardon by JD Vance, a promise from the Democrats not to pursue ill-gotten gains in return to get him the hell out of office as fast as we can? I can't tell you this is gonna happen, but I can tell you that I believe it's a real possibility and it's something to kick around a little bit and it's gonna really be something to kick around after the election in November."
