Republicans 'diving out of windows' to avoid Trump: family member

According to President Donald Trump’s niece, psychologist Mary L. Trump, Republicans in tight races are diving out of windows to avoid appearing onstage with her uncle at a time when they would normally be hugging him tight.

“There are 27 days until the midterms and … [Texas] gubernatorial incumbent Greg Abbott and the senate candidate Ken Paxton are facing unexpectedly tight midterm races, which is forcing the Republican Party to spend money on races they have been able to ignore,” Mary said on her Wednesday podcast.

While Mary Trump says her uncle likes to brag “on his failing social media site” that ‘MY RALLIES ARE SAVING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, AGAIN,’ Trump is actually finding himself in the unusual circumstance of seeing fellow Republicans in tight races flee at the sight of him on a stage.

“It appears that Trump’s endorsement has become toxic. And there will be one notable no-show in San Antonio tonight,” said Mary Trump, speaking of Abbott. “He will not be appearing there as he is fighting for his reelection coming up this November. He is in a dead heat with his Democratic opponent.”

Abbott told The Hill that “Because of the schedule that I run, where I go to multiple cities a day doing events like this, I already have events like this scheduled that day and I will not be able to make it.”

That, said Mary Trump, “is just code for ‘please do not put me within 39 and a half feet of Donald Trump because he is toxic and I am afraid of losing because Republicans in Texas — even Texas — can’t stand him.’”

She added that thanks to Trump, Abbot “is in the fight of his political life and he needs to campaign relentlessly and constantly until Election Day,” but she found it astounding that the party flees Trump today.

“Again, nobody wants to be seen with Donald. It would ‘ve been unheard of or unthinkable four years ago for a Republican candidate to run away from the president of the United States due to ‘scheduling conflicts,’” said Trump.

Trump then cited a REUTERS story reporting that “two-thirds of Republican candidates in competitive U.S. House and Senate races have broken with Trump” on policy, or they have played down ties to him, revealing a “widespread effort to distance themselves from the president as his unpopularity threatens the party's hold on Congress.”

The REUTERS’ review of voting records, public statements and campaign materials found candidates in 41 of 62 competitive congressional races seeking distance from Trump ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

However, some of the GOP candidates that eventually accept Trump’s public love come to regret it, said Mary Trump, citing her uncle’s lambasting of Paxton over his dress and manner.

“I don’t really like the way he looks. I don’t like it,” Trump said to laughter. “But you know what I did like? He was the greatest attorney general in the history of Texas. He was the greatest attorney general in the history of America.”

“First of all, of course Donald Trump thinks of Ken Paxton as the world’s ‘greatest’ politician because he’s the most corrupt one by far, and that’s what it takes to get Donald to compliment you. But, I’m sorry, criticizing the way Paxton dresses and talks — so says the man who wears ill-fitting clown suits and whose voice could grate cheese.”

Even Paxton admitted privately in leaked audio that Trump did him no favors with his decision to push a midterm convention.

Trump is ‘shrieking behind his own eyes’ as MAGA crumbles: insider

A journalist who has written four biographies about President Donald Trump, Michael Wolff, told a podcast on Wednesday that he the president is likely shrieking behind his own eyes as he watches his coalition crumble into dirt.

“It is hard to truly express how bad things are for Donald Trump at this point,” Wolff told the Inside Trump’s Head podcast," … I think that people are hedging their bets because it might be truly that the downfall is dramatically in progress.”

Trump’s recklessness is destroying both individual Republicans and the Republican Party, which has inextricably hitched itself to the president in its push to absorb the MAGA constituency.

But Wolff said Trump “charged into his second term with more aggression and venom than almost any modern president, taking enormous risks without much thought about where they might lead — without any thought, really.”

“Somehow, this combination of arrogance, risk, and narcissism held out; he somehow survives the risks that would destroy anyone else. So instead of adjusting as the midterms approach, he’s doubling down, campaigning as though his own name were on the ballot. As a result, Republicans may be facing their worst results in recent memory,” said Wolff.

But Iran — a war entirely of his own making — is hammering him and his party to pieces, thanks to the insane fuel cost and produce hikes that are coming of it, particularly in rural agriculture areas which rely on diesel for almost the entirely of farm production.

“Of all the political disasters of the second Trump administration, Iran heads the list,” said Wolff. “Trump sold the war as a demonstration of overwhelming American military might. Now the Iranians are targeting American interests, and Trump is onstage talking about Los Angeles and San Diego being attacked. This is a president who was elected promising no more forever wars and went into one without an exit strategy. Instead of finding a way out, he keeps escalating it and keeps putting himself at the center of it.”

Every his every “single policy is now coming back to haunt him,” said Wolff. “… It may be the worst Republican result in recent memory.

The president’s hideous decisions are busting up a coalition the presidential “narcissist” had convinced himself would endure for decades.

“There’s a data point that everybody is looking at that is the Hispanic vote. And that is shaping up to be one of the great political reversals of the Trump era, and maybe of the modern political era,” said Wolff. “It really looked in 2024 that … he had somehow gotten ownership of the Hispanic vote, that it had trended toward him and would continue to trend to ward him and essentially remake the underlying support of the Republican Party.”

Trump’s mind is the kind of brain that convinces itself that a duped victim remains duped for life, according to Wolff. But it turned out the Latino vote was a fleeting thing tied to the economy. That is, until Trump ruined it.

“That may have been one of the things that gave him the confidence to march into his second term and do literally anything he wanted to do. But that vote, all of the indicators say has dramatically reversed itself and is in full retreat from Donald Trump,” said Wolff, adding that Trump has so torn his pants with the Hispanic vote in the whole region that Trump has been asked to butt out of the Flavio Bolsonaro race in Brazil so as not to destroy the candidate’s chances.

“It’s interesting that Trump has kept his head down in the race and not interjected himself in this and the reason for that is the Bolsonaros have said ‘stay out of this,’” Wolff said.

Wolff said Trump is not a complete idiot, so he can see his floor caving out from under him.

“There is this thing about some great characters: They make themselves larger than life because they are crazy,” Wolff said. “Their need for attention overwhelms all else, including their own sanity and their own sense of caution, which makes them self-destructive. The anomaly is not that those people exist but that one has become the president of the United States.”

Trump is 'playing roulette with our lives' with new threat: former aide

A former top official at President Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security, Miles Taylor, warned on Wednesday that the Republican leader is leaving America vulnerable to a biological terrorist attack — and is therefore "playing roulette with our lives."

"Not-fun fact: Trump decimated the DHS office that protects the U.S. from bio threats, like Russia's plague incident," Taylor posted on X on Wednesday. "Hundreds of staff from the "Office of Countering WMD" have been pushed out, fired, or reassigned in Trump 2.0."

In a report for The I Paper, Taylor argued that Trump is "playing roulette with our lives."

He further described a recent news story that illustrates his point.

"The circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old lab technician at a Russian research institute remain clouded with uncertainty, but one point is clear: Donald Trump is actively dismantling the structures needed to protect the world from a potential future biological incident," Taylor wrote.

After describing the death of Darya Shipilova after she allegedly destroyed a test tube of pneumonic plague bacteria at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute in Russia, he continued that "not long ago, it was my job to worry about situations like this. As chief of staff at the US Department of Homeland Security, I designed and stood up the Office of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction, one of the biggest reorganisations of the department since it was created after 9/11."

He then described how "Trump has taken apart the government office specifically designed to protect the American people from bio threats of this seriousness. After Elon Musk’s Doge team set its sights on the Office of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction, Trump told Congress he didn’t need it anymore, and this spring it was effectively deleted. Hundreds of WMD experts were scattered across DHS, reassigned to other work or pushed out. More than half the staff is now gone. Specialists who spent years learning how to spot a dirty bomb or a bioterror plot are now so hard to locate that lawmakers have asked government auditors to check whether anyone is still doing the job."

He added, "I’ve talked to these people. They couldn’t believe that — or understand why — the White House would want to destroy an office responsible for detecting and stopping the next plague. Situations like the one in Russia are why they existed. But it’s too late. Their operation has already been dismantled."

In his opinion, Taylor wrote that "I can’t overstate how reckless this is."

Taylor has previously blasted Trump for being a sore loser and for being secretly hated by most of the Republicans who work with him.

"When Donald Trump loses, he lashes out," Taylor wrote in September. "And if the past few days are any indicator, his top advisers will be getting phone calls – like we did in his first term – demanding extreme measures. Only this time, he’ll have a more compliant audience... I can tell you what probably happened inside the White House late last night and this morning, because in that first term, I was on the receiving end."

In August, he argued that "It's closer to a prayer than a slogan: I wish he would disappear. The reference is to Donald Trump, of course. Never before have Republicans had to campaign under the banner of such a weak figurehead, nor one so insistent on stapling his toxic brand to the party, whether the party likes it or not."

Trump issues new threat on Social Security — after promising not to touch it

President Donald Trump repeatedly promised during his three campaigns that he would not touch Social Security. As a conservative commentator pointed out on Wednesday, however, he seems prepared to break that pledge.

"Peculiar line from Trump, who ran explicitly on not touching social security and now invites attacks that he may try to," noted The Bulwark's Sam Stein on Wednesday.

He referred to a moment in Trump's press conference the same day when he said, "I wanted to ride with Social Security being fully invested in the stock market in the first month of my first year, so 2016."

The president added, "I was met with tremendous criticism by the Democrats and some Republicans. I wanted to do it so badly."

Social Security currently faces a funding shortfall, yet even many of Trump's fellow Republicans balk at the idea of modifying a program that is widely popular and on which over 71 million Americans depend (out of roughly 350 million in the total population).

Speaking with AlterNet in August, President Joe Biden's Social Security Commissioner Martin O'Malley warned that Trump's signature economic legislation — the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill — has accelerated the agency's problems rather than ameliorating them.

"His policies have certainly accelerated the depletion date by a year," O'Malley explained. "At the end of President [Joe] Biden's administration, that date had actually been pushed further into the future by a year. So there you go — a net swing of two years. That's what his policies have done to make the situation more imminent and worse."

He added, "Having said that, the damage he's done to the trust fund and the damage he's done to customer service at the agency and its operations are both solvable problems — but he doesn't appear to be in a mode to solve them. He appears to be in a mode of wanting to privatize Social Security."

O'Malley added that the Trump administration has used its economic programs as a sneaky way of privatizing the Social Security fund.

"Treasury Secretary Bessent said that those Trump accounts — which were ostensibly wedged into that 'big, ugly' or 'beautiful' bill, depending on how you look at it — were set up as their backdoor way of privatizing Social Security," O'Malley said. "He's said this himself, on the record. You can look it up. It's not just Max saying it or imagining some motive — Bessent stated it out loud: this is their backdoor way of privatizing Social Security."

He also expressed deep skepticism about the impact of privatizing the fund.

"And let's keep in mind, in all of this, that Wall Street and cryptocurrency are gambles," O'Malley told AlterNet. "Social Security is a sacred trust backed by the full faith and credit of the United States. Wall Street is a gamble; Social Security is a guarantee — a guarantee that has been there without fail every month for 91 years."

'Lost his mind': Alarm sounded over Trump's grotesque remarks

This week, Donald Trump, America’s greatest threat, harrumphed upon an unsuspecting stage in Grand Island, Nebraska, and once again welcomed an attack on the United States of America.

This time, though, unlike Jan. 6, 2021, and any number of times he has publicly degraded the people of the United States, he was happy to leave the abuse of our nation to others …

During one of his unhinged celebrations of himself shoddily disguised as a campaign rally, the orange, dead-eyed psychopath wandered into the minefield of his blood-thirsty War in Iran, and said this to his morally busted supporters:

“Let them (Iran) take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay and it’s gonna be over with very soon.”

Hard as it is, you’ll want to read that again.

“Let them (Iran) take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay …”

Donald Trump’s grotesque, inept presidency should be on the fast track towards its end this morning.

Any president who can say these words, much less think them, is a monumental threat to our national security and needs to be removed immediately. He clearly has lost whatever was left of his mind, and is not capable of doing this job, or any job that involves the safety of others.

Just a decade ago his removal would have been a no-brainer, and both parties would be calling for the sicko’s head.

Essentially, the man charged with keeping America safe is once again telling its citizens how little he values them, and how much he thinks of an Iranian regime that is making him (and us) look more and more foolish each day. It’s bad enough he is trivializing war, that he is also trivializing the lives of millions of Americans is abhorrent and against the law.

If these words came out of the mouth of ANYBODY it would be sickening. That it came out of the mouth of the president is horrifying. If God forbid Joe Biden, or Barack Obama or Ronald Reagan or ANY president said something as malicious and treasonous as this, their presidency would be over.

Leaders in both parties would rush in front of every microphone they could find, hearings would be assembled, and lawmakers would set about upholding the law and safeguarding the citizens they serve from this proven maniac.

It would be 24/7 breaking news. Chyrons would scream PRESIDENT CALLS FOR IRANIAN ATTACK OF U.S. CITIES …

There would be endless editorials, and calls for the president’s immediate removal.

A meaty national discussion would ensue addressing how America had come to this, and would detail in no uncertain terms that there are lines that can never, ever be crossed in a Democracy.

Except in Trump’s America, it is just another Tuesday …

THIS is where we are right now, and we should not have to stand for it any longer, America.

When a president values himself more than the people he is supposed to serve, he needs to go. When a president wishes harm on those people he is supposed to serve, then sure as I am typing this, he is a traitor to his country and needs to be locked away for the rest of his miserable life.

There is not a single line Trump will not cross, and I curse anybody who does not know this by now, especially our media.

When I first heard Trump’s treasonous words late Monday night, I slept uneasily, rolled out of the rack, poured some black coffee, and went to all my likely news sources this morning to find out how this ghastly speech was being treated.

I could not find a single mention of it on the front page of The New York Times.

I then went to the Associated Press, and could not find any mention of it there.

I went to NPR, that alleged bastion of dangerous liberal ideas, and could not find a thing on their front page, either.

So a quick question:

JUST WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE????

Since 2016, I have been incredibly hard on a national media that with few exceptions has completely lost its way. Today’s inexcusable and dangerous ineptitude is the reason why.

Their normalization of Trump has been astonishing and dangerous. I have written countless columns asking in so many words what led to this?

I have arrived at all the likely places: complicitness, profit, and sheer incompetence. I suppose it no longer matters, because for the most part the mainstream media that Trump relentlessly batters has curled up into a ball of submission.

I just don’t know how else to explain it.

It breaks my heart, but mostly it angers me. I rage at them. America has not been in this much danger since the Civil War. I bet I have typed that 155 times the past decade, because it is undeniably true. Yet our media has treated this full-blown emergency like a series of cloudy days.

As we steam toward the midterms four weeks from today, Trump will become more unhinged and more dangerous, because he knows a majority of Americans are going to vote to hold him to account for the damage he has done to this country.

His free reign of terror will be over.

Until then, there is not a single thing he won’t do to prevent that. On Monday night he put a bullseye on our cities. God only knows what’s coming next, but one thing we do know for sure: It will somehow be even worse.

So just how-in-the-hell doesn’t everybody know this by now?

Trump makes stunning Nobel claim after boasting he saved the world

President Donald Trump is not giving up on the Nobel Peace Prize and is making what could be his biggest claim yet on why he believes he deserves the honor.

“There’s never been anybody in the history of the Nobel Prize that deserves it more,” Trump said. “I settled eight wars. I stopped the total obliteration of the world because Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”

His statement comes just two days before the Norwegian Nobel Committee's planned announcement of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on Friday. The committee never publicly names its candidates, and it keeps its discussions confidential for 50 years, so any external assertions about who is under formal consideration cannot be independently verified.

Despite this, Trump’s rival and neighbor Mark Carney has been rumored to get the nod.

Trump has repeatedly maintained that his foreign-policy record entitles him to the award. In July, he told reporters that he should have been the one to win the prize "more than anyone else ever to have done so" since, as he stated, he had settled eight wars.

Independent fact-checkers and political commentators have questioned the claim. Trump has listed off the conflicts and disputes between India and Pakistan, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Israel and Iran, Cambodia and Thailand, Serbia and Kosovo, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Gaza.

Although his administration has been involved in reaching ceasefires and diplomatic agreements in a number of instances, in some cases the situations were not ongoing wars, and in others the disputes remained unresolved, or violence continued.

After Trump repeated the claim in his 2026 State of the Union address, CBS News looked into it and discovered that the president had exaggerated the record. The outlet pointed out that in some instances the matters in question were diplomatic disputes and not wars, and that several agreements had not resulted in a definite end to the fighting.

The fact that Trump has been seeking the Nobel Prize in such an open manner is notable. When María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader who was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, she gifted Trump her medal at a meeting at the White House in January. The Nobel Committee has made it clear that a prize cannot be transferred or shared once awarded.

Nevertheless, Trump accepted the gift and has kept on referring to Machado's gesture as a reason for the committee to recognize him directly.

According to the Norwegian Nobel Institute, the Peace Prize for this year will be announced at 11 a.m. Central European Summer Time on Friday, 9th October. The committee states that 287 candidates were submitted this year, comprising 208 individuals and 79 organizations, although it maintains the identities of these candidates confidential.

For Trump, though, the verdict seems already to be in.

On Wednesday, he did not say only that he should be regarded as one of the candidates; rather, he asserted that, considering the whole history of the Nobel Prize, no one had been more deserving to receive it than himself.

Republican strategist tears Darline Graham apart: 'Nowhere to be found'

A veteran Republican strategist unleashed on the failures of the Senate race in South Carolina.

The sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Darline Graham, replaced her brother in the Senate, but even with lawmakers back home for the election, she still isn't campaigning.

The complaints come after news broke that Republicans are dumping an extra $5 million into help juice Graham's numbers. It's unclear whether the GOP fears a wave election could wipe out even a reliably red state like South Carolina or whether they simply don't have confidence in the Graham campaign as it stands. According to one veteran GOP strategist, it's more the latter.

Speaking to CNN's Mark Preston, the strategist lamented, pediatrician "Annie Andrews is running an aggressive, kitchen-table campaign focused on the issues important to families struggling in South Carolina. Her campaign is all about high gas/diesel prices and grocery prices that skyrocketed during COVID and have never come down. Darline Graham is nowhere to be found. People are struggling and Darline isn't meeting with the voters where they are."

Preston pointed out that South Carolina is a state that the GOP shouldn't have to put money into; however, Republicans are also having to put money into Kansas, Texas and Iowa now too.

The influx of cash came just before Fox News predictions moved that once-safe Senate seat from "solidly R" to "likely R."

Graham has also suffered from several very public missteps, particularly during her primary debate against Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.). She has a chance to redeem herself as she takes the stage with Dr. Andrews on Oct. 11.

Meanwhile, Trump is hurling slurs at Andrews, claiming she's transgender. For her part, Andrews hasn't asked Graham to denounce the comments, saying she's too focused on issues that matter to voters who can't afford food and fuel.

He also mentioned former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) making an "about-face" on Trump's tariffs 60 days after he claimed to support them. Michigan is a car state, so the high tariffs have jacked up prices on vehicle parts, metal and tools, making it more costly to build and higher priced.

Trump's personal trade war with Canada is also hurting Michigan, since many U.S. vehicles are shipped in for Canadians to buy, the Detroit Free Press reported in August. Michigan is particularly exposed because its auto industry operates across the U.S.–Canada border, rather than as a self-contained domestic industry

So, after saying he was standing with Trump on tariffs, Rogers has now had to flip-flop on the issue.

'Wild' Trump effort to deny links to MAGA 'inner circle' quickly unravels

President Donald Trump attempted to distance himself from two of his long-time political advisers, who cashed in by working for a Russia-aligned government got instant pushback.

After The New York Times reported that James Blair and Chris LaCivita had gone to Republika Srpska, a Serb-majority area in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to advise its government before the elections there, Trump reacted on Truth Social. The report states that the two men were each paid hundreds of thousands of dollars through a Washington-based law firm that had been hired by the government.

“Chris LaCivita and James Blair are outside consultants,” Trump wrote. “They do not work for me, other than as outside consultants.”

CNN anchor Dana Bash mentioned the post a minute later, calling it "pretty wild" and mentioning that Blair and LaCivita are two of Trump's "closest political advisers" and that the former "is literally running MAGA Inc"

While discussing Trump's effort to describe them as outside consultants, CNN White House reporter Alayna Treene gave a more detailed account of the president’s relationship with them, calling the president's denial "astonishing" due to their high profile within his close circle.

“They do work for the president, and they are very close,” Treene said. “They are very much considered part of his inner circle, very close with Susie Wiles.”

Treene said LaCivita and Wiles, the chief of staff to the White House, ran Trump's 2024 campaign together and that Blair was closely connected to both of them.

“And James Blair really is in charge of the president’s entire political operation, even though it’s being run on the outside of the White House,” she said.

Blair was political director of Trump's 2024 campaign and later became a deputy chief of staff in the White House. LaCivita was also one of the campaign managers for Trump in 2024, and both of them are still taking part in the Trump-associated political operation as the November midterms approach.

Treene described Trump’s threat as significant due to his close ties to both advisors, and she linked the president’s move to midterm anxiety.

“That is a huge deal for people who have been loyal to him from the beginning and comes. Of course, this comes less than 30 days away from the midterm elections. A lot of alarm bells, of course, going off across the country for republicans in some of these very vulnerable districts and these tight races.”

She also gave one possible reason why the president took public steps about the report, namely that Trump has in the past disliked his aides earning money in ways that could involve his name; she also pointed out the huge conflict of interest.

His current denial is now drawing focus to the relationship which he had aimed to limit, but CNN reports the pair are still firmly within his political circle, which could lead to some political blowback.

'Nightmare' hurricane heads right for Trump’s weekend campaign plans

President Donald Trump is headed to Alabama for the big Georgia-Bama game this weekend, but he's now right in the path of a hurricane.

Tropical storm Isaias is gaining speed and power as it moves over the Gulf of Mexico and, by the time it hits the big game, it's expected to reach a Category 2 hurricane, the Capital Weather Gang reported.

Overnight, digital meteorologist Ryan Hall said Google's AI ran 1,000 likely scenarios for Isaias, and 9 of 10 forecast top wind speeds of 110 mph. As Hall explained, that's "one mile per hour short of a major hurricane. Each dot is one run, and the pink ones are major hurricanes at that moment. Most of them reach the coast late Friday night, about 9 out of 10 on the Florida Panhandle."

"Storm surge, heavy rain and damaging winds threaten the Gulf Coast states from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle," the Weather Channel cautioned.

They also forecast landfall around 1 a.m. on Saturday. Tuscaloosa is about 250 miles from the Gulf Coast, but the game isn't set to start until 6:30 p.m. local time. No forecast shows the storm missing Alabama.

The Sun cited "weather experts" who are warning that the showdown "could be moved due to major weather reaching Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The report cited ABC chief meteorologist James Spann, who is cautioning that Isaias "could make landfall in nearby Mobile Bay."

“It would be a nightmare for everybody involved. But if we do get a Category 1, Category 2 hurricane coming right up Mobile Bay Saturday morning, I don’t know if you wouldn’t be playing that game in Tuscaloosa," he told AL.com.

"You have the chance of winds gusting to 50 miles an hour, torrential rain and the chance of isolated tornadoes on top of everything else," he continued. “The idea of moving the game… It’s clearly on the table.”

The SEC said Tuesday that it was monitoring the storm and may move it to avoid the storm.

The game will be Trump's second visit to Alabama in eight days.

Equity research analyst Brett Gibbs also remarked that the southern gulf area and at or near the hurricane's path are three sizable renewable diesel facilities: Chevron Geismar, DGD Norco, SBR Chalmette. They're in Louisiana between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Gibbs added, "Something to watch and could be part of today's bean oil move..."

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is already calling on residents to begin preparations.

Federal judge greenlights taxpayer-funded religious Oklahoma charter school

A federal judge’s recent ruling on a religious charter school in Oklahoma could make way for a precedent that is a direct contrast to the separation of church and state — and a new wave of taxpayer-funded religious schools.

Per Friendly Atheist, Western District Judge David L. Russell of Oklahoma recently ruled that the state violated the First Amendment after denying the approval of the Ben Gamla Jewish Charter School on the basis of religion.

In his ruling, Russell stated that the court is not expressing “judgment on the wisdom of the State of Oklahoma opening up its coffers to charter schools of disparate philosophical or educational persuasions.”

However, once it does, the court can’t deny a school on account of its “religious character.”

While the ruling, which occurred late last month, doesn’t mean that the charter school is close to opening, it does give way to the school being able to continue the steps of becoming established.

Now, the state Charter School Board has to reconsider Ben Gamla Jewish Charter School’s application when the board next reconvenes.

Attorney General Gentner Drummond previously sued to stop the school from receiving the taxpayer funds, but was ultimately stopped by the Supreme Court.

Additionally, Drummond sued the Charter School board earlier this year due to claims the board “didn’t thoroughly explain all the existing problems with the school’s application,” per the outlet.

Despite the recent ruling by the court to give the taxpayer funds the go-ahead for the school, Drummond’s lawsuit is ongoing.

Following the news of the ruling, many close to the situation voiced their opinions on what it means moving forward.

The ruling “opens the door to a dangerous sea change for our democracy,” the legal team of a [pro-church/state separation] group said via statement. “Forcing taxpayers to fund religious public schools violates state and federal law.”

“Ben Gamla will not only indoctrinate students into a particular religion — it will discriminate against families that don’t share the school’s beliefs. We will continue to fight for all Oklahomans, who deserve public schools that are secular and open to all students,” the attorneys added.

As for Drummond, in a statement on Oct. 1, he addressed the ruling saying, “In 2024, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that a religious charter school violates the Oklahoma Constitution, state law and the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court left that decision in place last year.”

GOP losing patience with Paxton as leaked audio puts 'rescue effort' on ice

Reactions are starting to roll in from Republicans who have heard the leaked audio of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton complaining about the GOP taking over his campaign, raising money and deciding his messaging.

According to a Politico report, if Paxton doesn't like it, he can run his own race and raise his own money.

“He is welcome to raise his own money and say whatever he wants,” said a Republican who identified as "involved in the Paxton rescue effort."

Over the past several days, audio has been leaked from an event in Washington where Paxton met with several top donors and lobbyists to discuss the state of the race. They asked him about President Donald Trump's involvement and how he feels about the top issues. In one clip, Paxton claims Washington has taken over his whole race.

“I’ve never been in a race where I felt less control over the campaign … it’s all coming — you know — from D.C.,” Paxton complained.

Another Republican Trump ally said that when it comes to messaging, Paxton “needs the help.”

The whole political drama was prognosticated by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who warned both Trump and the GOP that if Paxton won the GOP nomination, he would lose. According to Cornyn, Paxton is lazy and too mired in scandal. Cornyn is now working to help Senate candidates in every state except Texas, while enjoying his "I told you so" moment.

“We warned them about this,” another GOP operative said.

"Since then, the usual crowd of never-Paxton types has expanded into a wider circle of frustrated Republicans who are irked by the effort it’s taking to boost the scandal-plagued Senate candidate," said Politico. "And Paxton saying he doesn’t control his campaign messaging — alongside his remarks that President Donald Trump’s midterm convention hurt him politically — isn’t helping."

The leaked audio also revealed Paxton complaining about Trump losing the war in Iran and how it's hurting the economy and gas prices. He also lamented that Trump's little convention did nothing for him or anyone else.

“Beggars can’t be choosers," a Texas Republican consultant told Politico. "He can try to raise federal money at a level that is necessary to save his candidacy at this point, but his arms don’t reach that high. As usual, he communicates something that is unhelpful, that is undisciplined, that is politically self-harmful and like most things, lacks any gratitude whatsoever.”

This far, Republicans have put in more than $200 million attempting to buy the seat for Paxton. This after Trump spent billions to have a huge "convention-style" event in Dallas over the summer. Meanwhile, the AG left mid-campaign to take his girlfriend to Iceland and London.

Trump allies say they've done everything they can to try to save Paxton and avoid an embarrassing disaster. Trump will be there again Wednesday to help haul the dead weight over the finish line.

When reporters askesd Trump about Paxton on Tuesday, he claimed, “Ken’s doing much better now that I — everybody is — since starting three, four days ago, since starting the rallies. It’s brought a whole new awareness to how great the Republicans are doing, how great the economy is doing."

The report revealed that some Republicans are throwing up their hands, content to move on to other races that are in danger of removing incumbent Republicans around the Midwest.

“There is only so much we can do,” the senior Senate GOP aide explained. “And I feel like we’re doing a lot.”

The greater danger is that Trump stuck his neck out for Paxton since he'd led the charge of Republican attorneys general fighting the 2020 election. So, if Paxton loses, it's not only going to make the GOP look bad, it'll specifically make Trump look bad.

“If the media coverage related to election night and the autopsy a couple days afterwards is brutal towards Trump, like, horrible economy, inflation’s not that much better than the last year of Joe Biden’s ... he will lash out,” said a former Trump fundraiser.

“But if the narrative is, it’s a midterm presidential, this is what normally happens … he’ll move on as fast as he can and never talk about Ken Paxton again. It just depends what the coverage looks like post the November election," they added.

Out of Trump's $400 million war chest, he's dropped about $45 million directly into Paxton. That doesn't include the Texas convention.
