Watch: Donald Trump and Jon Voight trade fluffs in Newsmax interview
Former President Donald Trump sat down for a Newsmax interview with actor and supporter Jon Voight on Sunday that focused on the Abraham Accords, the Middle East peace agreement that the Trump Administration negotiated in 2020.
Following a brief introduction, Trump complimented Voight's performance career.
"You're also a very talented person. I think, a truly great actor. That's why we honored you at the White House with the highest achievement and you deserve it," Trump recalled of awarding Voight with the National Medal of Arts in 2019.
The remaining majority of the first nineteen minutes consisted of Voight sharing anecdotes about his trips to Israel and his devout admiration for Trump's legacy.
At one point, Voight became choked up, which Trump noted in his brief response:
Well, first of all, I think it's so nice the way you expressed that. And even the slight little tears, God, you're just a fantastic person.
Next, Voight stated that he expects the world to "go toward peace" and praised Trump again:
Let's stay and hope. Let's appreciate our country and let's appreciate those who are capable of turning the tide and bringing us back to the greatness that we were given by our Founding Fathers.
Trump's replied with a word salad:
Well I want to thank you and we love the country. The country is in trouble. It's gotta be solved fairly quickly. There is no choice but to solve the problem but it's a big problem. It's a big problem. And I hope it continues forward. And we love Israel and we hope everything's going to be okay. A lot of good moves have to be made or it's not gonna be okay. And we say God bless you and good luck.
After the interview concluded with mutual back-patting, Trump expressed his satisfaction:
Jon is the greatest. I didn't have to do too much talking.
Trump then invited Voight and the production crew to stay for dinner.
