Bill O’Reilly believes that the Republican Party is overlooking the issues that voters care about most as they campaign to maintain their slim control of Congress.
During an appearance on NewsNation, the former Fox News presenter criticized the GOP, warning that they risk losing their congressional majority because they have not provided a convincing solution to affordability concerns. “The Republicans are so blanking dumb, they can’t put it together, and therefore they may very well lose,” O’Reilly said in a clip shared by Mediaite.
His comments came while he was discussing the upcoming midterm elections on November 3 with host Leland Vittert. O’Reilly pointed out that Republicans are under pressure from voters, who have ongoing complaints about the rising costs of groceries, housing, and other everyday expenses.
While O’Reilly was critical of the Republicans, he did not spare the Democrats either, arguing that they have not offered any solutions of their own. According to him, the Democratic platform fails to address how to reduce prices.
As the party currently in charge of Washington, O’Reilly believes the Republicans are in a more vulnerable position if voters are dissatisfied with their financial situations. He accused both parties of relying on "gimmicks" rather than providing concrete plans to make life less expensive. He also noted that President Trump has become involved in this kind of politics.
With Election Day less than a month away, O’Reilly warned that this could prove to be a costly mistake for the GOP. Currently, Republicans are trying to preserve their narrow majorities in Congress, while Democrats are performing well in national generic ballot polling. In several states that typically favor the Republican Party, races have become closer than they would like.
In response to this climate, Trump has entered the midterm campaign, visiting states such as Alabama, Ohio, and Nebraska in an effort to win over Republican voters.
O’Reilly highlighted that the economic issues he mentioned have been troubling the president for months. Although official figures show that the economy is growing, many people do not feel this improvement in their daily lives when paying rent, filling their gas tanks, or shopping for groceries.
As a result, Republicans are trying to persuade voters that the situation is getting better, even though many still feel financially pressured. O’Reilly’s warning was especially pointed because he has long criticized Democratic economic policies and supported many of Trump’s positions. This time, however, his frustration was directed at the Republican Party.
He emphasized that while the Republicans could spend the final weeks of the campaign attacking the Democrats, they need to demonstrate to voters how they plan to reduce prices. Otherwise, they may face a self-inflicted defeat.
