A Republican caller didn’t hold back during a live C-SPAN broadcast about the midterm elections Monday by unloading on his own party, saying Republicans deserve to lose and demanding that President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth be sent to jail.

The caller was identified as Ronald from West Virginia, and his rant was in response to C-SPAN host Pedro Echevarria, asking viewers if they thought their party would win the forthcoming midterms.

Ronald said he believes only up to 15 percent of the GOP are still of sound mind, stating: “As a Republican, I can say one thing… I think that about 85-95 percent of the Republican Party has lost their minds,” he said in audio shared by Mediaite.

He didn’t stop there, continuing, “It’s just so clear that my party’s been taken over by loudmouths who are uneducated and unable to process any information beyond what they see on social media. I think most of them don’t even understand what AI is or how it works. I think the Republicans deserve to lose every single election.”

He then said he believes Hegseth “needs to go to jail” and it’s “obvious” President Trump should join him.

Echevarria appeared taken aback by the caller. While Trump and Hegseth’s favorability is historically low, his remarks were an unusually negative evaluation of the Republican leadership coming from someone who had not defected from the party as far as we know.

Despite battling damning poll numbers and a cost of living crisis, Trump has hit the campaign trail and encouraged his supporters to treat the midterms as if his name were one of the candidates on the ballot.

The president has gone to various states, such as Texas, Ohio, Alabama and Oklahoma, to campaign for the Republican candidates and was set to take part in an appearance on Monday night in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Some GOP candidates have distanced themselves from Trump, giving his unpopularity with voters in some swing states.

Over the weekend, Trump once more committed in videos on Truth Social to paying voters $5,000 if the Republicans remain in power and urged his supporters to vote early or by mail. However, recent polling has shown that voters have become skeptical about his latest money pledge.

On the contrary, Ronald and other frustrated GOP voters appear to want the opposite outcome.

Rather than attempting to predict the outcome of a difficult election or attacking a specific candidate, he stated that the Republican Party should suffer a total defeat. The phone call clearly showed there was discontent among the GOP as Trump encouraged his Republican voters to see the 2026 elections as another referendum on his presidency.

If the polling is to be believed, the GOP is set to face a new reality when voters cast their ballots on November 3.
