Fox News' Tucker Carlson is facing deep scrutiny for his latest actions echoing the sentiments of U.S. Capitol rioters in the wake of the political unrest in Brazil.

On Monday, Jan. 9, the conservative host weighed in on Brazil’s presidential election amid the defeat of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. During the primetime segment, Carlson attempted to spin a political conspiracy theory similar to the one far-right Republicans echoed when former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to President Joe Biden.

According to Carlson, Bolsonaro's defeat is the result of election rigging. He also suggested that Bolsonaro supporters' storming of government Brasilia was justified.

“Consider what is happening tonight in Brazil,” Carlson said. “Thanks to what was very clearly a rigged election, a convicted criminal – Lula da Silva – is now the president of the most important country in South America. Millions of people in Brazil understand exactly what happened. They know that their democracy has been hijacked, possibly forever.”

At another point during the segment, he also said, "What’s happened in Brazil is likened to Jan. 6.”

He continued: “And of course, populist leaders in this country are being blamed for it. ‘Oh, it was Trump and Steve Bannon who did it.’ That’s not true, but even if it were true, it would be just the tail-end of the story. It’d be the result of something that happened before. The obvious question is why are protestors in Brazil so angry?”

However, Twitter users strongly disagree and have pushed back against Carlson and the 1,500 individuals detained during the insurrection-style protests.

"FoxNews actively supports insurrection overseas in Brazil and tacitly supports Russian genocide in Ukraine by opposing US aid," one Twitter user tweeted. "FoxNews is a menace to international security."

Carlson was also accused of supporting fascism. "#MoscowMotherTucker will support anything that will disrupt western liberal democracies. He is Putin's little rich b---h," another user tweeted.

One Twitter user also expressed concern about the impact of media figures like Carlson tweeting, "America is destroying itself letting people like this Fox News clown and MAGA spreading lies, gas lightning hate speeches and so on without consequences."

However, another Twitter user sarcastically tweeted a silver lining about Carlson's actions saying, "This lines up well with his support of Authoritarian Dictator Putin…at least he’s consistent."
