Conservative commentator Candance Owens said on Thursday's edition of her Daily Wire show that if she could "get away with punching one person in the face and have no consequences," that individual would be Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Owens' manufactured outrage stemmed from a speech that Zelenskyy gave earlier this week in which he contemplated the fallout of a direct clash between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which is arming Ukraine's defenses against Russian President Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion.

The clip has circulated among right-wing circles, who have taken Zelenskyy's comments out of context in order to justify opposition to the aid that the West is providing to Ukraine.

"Take a listen to Zelenskyy warning you of what will happen if you stop funding his lifestyle," Owens said before rolling the Zelenskyy footage.

"The US will have to send their sons and daughters exactly the same way as we are sending their sons and daughters to war," Zelenskyy said through a translator. "And they will have to fight because it's, uh, NATO that we're talking about, and they will be dying, God forbid, because it's a horrible thing."

Owens used that as a pretext to, ostensibly, side with Russia.

"Ooo. Oof. I am not going to say that I'd like to punch Zelenskyy in the face cause that's, that's violent. But I am saying that if I could get away with punching one person in the face and have no consequences, it would be President Zelenskyy," Owens snapped. "I can't even tell you how much oof I harbor for him; the audacity to tell you that the consequence is going to be that your sons and daughters are going to fight and die if you don't help him secure a win against Russia."

Owens then decried the address that Zelenskyy gave before Congress in December because lawmakers displayed his nation's flag on the floor of the House of Representatives.

"Wow, that's bold. But why shouldn't he be feeling bold? He's got, he's got our congressmen waving the Ukrainian flag in our chambers, right, in our congressional chambers. They are waving the Ukrainian flag, not the American one," Owens complained. "Actually I think at the exact same time, they were telling you that if you do wave the American flag, you're a racist."
