Former GOP strategist praises Biden’s 'alpha move' in Ukraine while slamming MAGA response

On Monday, February 20, U.S. President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and vowed to continue giving the war-torn country military aid. The visit came several days before the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
It was on February 24, 2022 that Russian forces, on President Vladimir Putin's orders, launched a full-fledged military invasion of Ukraine. A year later, the war rages on.
Far-right MAGA Republicans, from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, have been quick to attack Biden for visiting Kyiv and have claimed that he is more concerned about Ukraine than he is about his fellow Americans.

But The Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson, a former GOP strategist and outspoken Never Trump conservative, has a radically different viewpoint. In a tweet posted on February 20, Wilson praised Biden’s "alpha move" while slamming MAGA Republicans' for their isolationist views on Ukraine.
Tweeting a New York Times article on Biden’s Kyiv visit, Wilson posted, "This is an alpha move that lets the world see an American President standing firm, a clear ally of the brave Ukrainian people in a war for their survival against a tyrannical despot. This, MAGA, is the right side of history. You? Not so much."
Biden, according to the Times, reached Kyiv by taking a ten-hour train ride from the Poland/Ukraine border. After meeting with Zelensky in Kyiv, Biden was scheduled to return to Poland on Tuesday, February 21 and meet with Polish officials.
Wilson, although conservative in his views, has been a scathing critic of former President Donald Trump and expressed his disdain for the MAGA movement by leaving the GOP and becoming an independent. In the United States' 2020 presidential election, Wilson (a frequent guest on MSNBC) supported Biden and vehemently opposed reelecting Trump.
