'Definitely being untruthful': Fitness experts aren't buying Mike Pompeo's claim about his 90lb weight loss regimen

Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is 90 pounds lighter and he credits it to turkey bacon and six months of half-hour workouts at his home. However, fitness experts are not sure if he is being honest about his weight loss success. Could he have really lost 90 pounds in just six months with the diet and exercise regimen he claims to have used?

According to Pompeo, his regimen “was nothing scientific. There was no trainer, there was no dietician. It was just me.” Per The Kansas City Star, Pompeo's weight loss was a result of "switching from pumpkin pancakes to egg whites and turkey bacon when his family hits the IHOP."

But would that garner the results he's had in such little time?

Speaking to The Kansas City Star, a number of fitness experts have weighed in to offer their take on Pompeo's weight loss. Most agree that it seems a bit farfetched for him to have lost so much weight in so little time. Micah LaCerte, deemed the top personal fitness trainer in Kansas City, explained how rare Pompeo's case is.

“I’ve done this for 20 years,” and have never witnessed anything like it, said LaCerte. “'He would have to be on a massive starvation diet,' probably taking in no carbs at all. And even then, 'no way with only a half-hour workout. Ninety in six is unbelievable, especially for his age, unless he’s working out for hours every day. The numbers just don’t add up. Dude, just be honest. Mike, come on, man.'”

Al Rose —described as a West Point-trained former soldier and a veteran New York-based bodybuilder, trainer, and coach— insists Pompeo is “definitely being untruthful” about his drastic weight loss. The 65-year-old bodybuilder also said that he's noticed the rapid weight loss in Pompeo's public appearances over the last six months.

“His face is sunken and his skin doesn’t look good. He’s gone from one extreme to the other. If someone sees him and is inspired” to eat healthier foods and work out more, Rose said, then, of course, that’s all to the good. But no one should expect or even try for such rapid results. “That message he’s spouting should not be marketed.”

Despite the speculation, Pompeo is sticking to his story.
