Republican group is slamming Kevin McCarthy with scathing ads

A Republican group is torching House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) amid his ongoing refusal to cooperate with the House Select Committee's investigation into the Capitol insurrection.
According to HuffPost, the Republican Accountability Project —a conservative political action committee (PAC) that has long-opposed former President Donald Trump and his allies— has strategically placed 50 billboards and bus stop advertisements in and around McCarthy's home district. The same billboards have also been placed around Washington, D.C.
In a press release, Sarah Longwell, the organization's executive director, explained why McCarthy is their latest target. Longwell also stressed how critical the Jan. 6 timeline was since McCarthy was one of the Republican lawmakers who managed to speak to the former president while chaos erupted.
“Kevin McCarthy was one of the few people who spoke to Trump during the January 6 attack,” Longwell said in the news release. “It’s time for him to tell the American people what he knows.”
The ads will reportedly be on display for the next four weeks. An online map is also in place to show the location of the ads. The ads come as McCarthy's previous remarks about the insurrection are resurfacing. Not long after the Capitol breach, McCarthy admitted that Trump “bears responsibility” for the insurrection that his mob of angry supporters carried out.
“No if, ands or buts,” McCarthy said back in January 2021.
Shortly after making the remarks, the California lawmaker publicly distanced from his comments and even took a trip to Mar-a-Lago presumably to smooth things over. Since then, he has adamantly made attempts to stall the investigation by the House Select Committee.
“What are you hiding, Kevin McCarthy?” the ads ask.
In similar fashion, the progressive PAC Meidas Touch has also launched an attack highlighting conflicting remarks from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Although he is a known Trump supporter who also pushed false claims about the election, he has referred to Capitol rioters as “terrorists.”
BREAKING: Fox has accepted our ad buy using Ted Cruz\u2019s own words to call January 6th what it was: a terrorist attack. The spot will air nationally this Sunday. It turns out nobody likes Ted Cruz.pic.twitter.com/AyUurwJWq8— MeidasTouch.com (@MeidasTouch.com) 1642734917
