Anti-Trump GOPers form alliance to support centrists and Democrats to keep the GOP from winning the 2022 midterms

A group of anti-Trump Republicans has vowed to put their support behind vulnerable centrists and Democratic candidates in an effort to ensure the Republican Party does not regain control of Congress in 2022.
On Thursday, October 14, Renew America Movement (RAM) released a statement via Twitter explaining their central goals: to protect and preserve the United States' democracy while upholding the U.S. Constitution.
"There is an urgent effort by Republicans and former Republicans to stem the tide of anti-democratic and lie-based Republican leaders in Congress before it's too late," RAM said in its Twitter announcement.
With the announcement, the group posted a picture that included a list of the favorable House and Senate candidates they've dubbed The Renewers. According to Business Insider, the candidate list consists of "11 Democrats facing tough battles for re-election, and nine Republicans, including high-profile Republican Trump critic Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who voted to impeach Trump over his role in the January 6 Capitol riot."

Speaking to Reuters, Joel Searby, RAM's national political director, explained why it is imperative for them to push back against their own political party. "With the mounting threats to our democracy and Constitution, we need people who work proactively to lead their party and the country away from the political extremes," Searby said.
The formation of RAM came after the deadly insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. At that time, anti-Trump Republicans surmised that it was time to take proactive steps toward "loosen[ing] Trump's grip on the party."
Some leaders of the group are considered high-profile Republicans who have previously spoken out against Trump. They include: Miles Taylor, a former official for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security who previously spoke out against Trump; "Anthony Scaramucci, the Trump White House's former communications director, attorney George Conway, and former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele."
