Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) decided to celebrate Constitution Day with a veiled tweet attacking Democrats. However, his message didn't get the reaction he may have expected.

On Friday, September 17, the Republican lawmaker took to Twitter with a message that read, "Today is Constitution Day! We celebrate the greatest legal document ever written. We also hope Democrats read it."

Jordan's tweet prompted immediate backlash from Twitter users. According to HuffPost, many quickly reminded Jordan of his disregard for law and the Constitution amid former President Donald Trump's push to overturn the presidential election. The Ohio lawmaker was one of many Republicans who backed Trump's Big Lie.

“Irony dies,” one Twitter critic said, firing back at Jordan.

Others encouraged him to read the U.S. Constitution, as well. Another critic tweeted, "People who really love and respect the Constitution don't lie about elections, amplify conspiracy theories targeting hard-working Americans or encourage their voters to view opposing political parties as enemies and acceptable targets."

Another user wrote, "§2384. Seditious conspiracy If two or more persons in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the USA hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, ll I they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."
