Fox News' Judge Napolitano Debunks Giuliani's Claim the Mueller Probe is 'Rigged': Trump 'Ratified' Part of It Himself
Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano on Wednesday refuted Rudy Giuliani after the former federal prosecutor-turned Donald Trump lawyer last weekend declared special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation “rigged” and “illegitimate.”
“I think [Giuliani] is too smart to have said what he knows was an untruth,” Napolitano said during his segment “Judge Napolitano's Chambers.”
Napolitano explained when Giuliani calls an investigation rigged, he means “the outcome has been predetermined” or is otherwise unfair.
“It’s not the duty of the prosecutors to be fair, and Giuliani, one of the great prosecutors of New York City, knows that,” Napolitano said, explaining it’s the prosecution’s job to “pick a target they think is probably guilty” and “leave fairness up to judges and juries.”
“Giuliani knows that,” Napolitano said, adding the reason Trump’s lawyer claimed the investigation is “rigged” is because he’s serving as the president’s “PR person” and “trying to undermine credibility in the Mueller investigation.”
But, as Napolitano explained, the Russia investigation is far from “illegitimate.”
“The president himself even ratified a portion of the Mueller investigation when he imposed sanctions on the Russian intelligence agent whom Mueller indicted,” Napolitano said. “They both know what they mean when they use language like ‘rigged and legitimate.’”
