Wednesday night the "Daily Show" kicked things off with an ode to Back to the Future, giving the 1980s film classic credit for predicting the ascension of Donald Trump.
"Turns out, that movie got a lot right about the future," Noah said. "It correctly predicted biometric identification, wearable technology and Donald Trump's presidency." Noah then flashed uncanny pictures of both Biff and Trump standing next to portraits of themselves.
One thing Back to the Future 2 didn't predict—but Noah wishes it had—was Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House. The former vice-presidential candidate has been flirting with the job for days but finally hinted at taking the reins in a speech yesterday morning.
"So, the GOP may have been saved by the man from the Midwest," the "Daily Show" host said about Ryan's 11th-hour ride to the rescue. "And they were very, very grateful." Noah played clips of several Republicans responding to a Ryan leadership. Rep. Darrell Issa, for one, insisted he "didn't see anyone booing" Paul's selection. Strong praise, indeed.
