Texas AG Thinks Annoying Liberals Is More Important Than Spending Donors' Money Wisely

News & Politics

Everything is bigger than Texas, including the right-wing shenanigans. After New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and other lawmakers pushed through stricter gun laws earlier this week in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott decided to waste some of his campaign dollars to buy ads in Albany and New York City urging gun-loving New Yorkers to move to his state, where gun laws are obviously more lax. It was an obvious ploy to get under the skin of pro-gun restriction New York liberals (and liberals in general).

And, well, it sort of worked. The ads are riling the feathers of some gun safety advocates. But it's Texans who should be really annoyed. Abbott is vying for the state's governorship, and this is how he tries to win them over? By wasting donors' money on campaign ads in a state where there are virtually no votes to be gotten? And for a campaign that is so wildly disrespectful to the individuals affected by the Sandy Hook shooting (Newtown is, after all, just an hour or so from New York City; many people here have a connection). Bad form.
