'The cover-up is so massive': Veteran journalist explains why MAGA won't let go of Epstein

President Donald Trump's insistence that his MAGA supporters give up in their efforts to get to the bottom of the Jeffrey Epstein case is only pouring gasoline on the fire.
That's according to longtime journalist Kara Swisher, who told former CNN host Jim Acosta on his Substack show Wednesday that the fracturing of the Trump base is likely to continue as long as the Trump administration remains cagey about the convicted child predator. Swisher — the New York Magazine contributing editor who hosts the "On with Kara Swisher" podcast – said that because Trump's base has been coached to believe deeply in conspiracy theories, they won't be swayed from their dogged pursuit of the Epstein files anytime soon.
"They have put them on almost like a heroin of conspiracy theories and kept them there," Swisher told Acosta. "... I'm like, 'you have literally fed your children sugar forever, like toxic sugar, and they're diabetics. All of them. And now you're telling them not to eat? Are you kidding me?"

"And so what Trump has done is trained his people online in a very classic propaganda fashion," she continued. "And he's benefited from that. And now he's saying, 'no, no, it's not true.'"
Swisher also pushed back on the notion that Trump's relationship with Epstein was itself a "conspiracy," pointing out that Trump and Epstein were very close friends for a long time and have been in photographs and videos together. She put herself in the shoes of MAGA supporters who hoped Trump would do as he promised and release the Epstein files to the public, only to be let down after he made it back to the White House.
"They believe it. Go online. Watch them. And I feel sorry for them," Swisher said. "I don't know. At this point, it's like, the cover-up is so massive. It feels like that."
