October surprise: A new 'fast-tracked' Netflix doc could humiliate Trump

President Donald Trump was humiliated last month when it leaked that he had avoided a potential assassination attempt by sneaking off of Air Force One while hiding in a catering cart. Now the streamer Netflix is amplifying his embarrassment by releasing a documentary about that event.

"Netflix wasted no time ordering a documentary detailing the president’s humiliating summer escape in a catering container," reported The Daily Beast's Meera Navlakha on Tuesday. "The streaming service has fast-tracked a full documentary about the ruse. In July, Trump, 80, used an aircraft catering cart to escape an alleged Iranian assassination ploy while in Turkey. After hiding away in the cart, he was secretly placed onto a decoy plane, as revealed in a bombshell report from The Washington Post published August 10."

The Daily Beast added, "Just a few weeks later, the great escape will be memorialized in Instadocs: The Decoy Plane, hitting Netflix on September 4. A newly released trailer for the documentary shows members of the press who were left on the original plane unpacking the bizarre scenario."

The publication continued, "Associated Press photographer Alex Brandon describes photographing Trump’s departure from Ankara, saying it was strange to see catering carts surrounding Air Force One. 'I see those catering vehicles up against the side of Air Force One … I have never seen that before,' he says in the clip."

Trump's catering cart caper was met with widespread derision. His former communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, posted on X at the time that "this image of Trump in the catering cart is going to be hard to shake. You know he’s livid that it got out. If he wasn’t a coward, he would’ve told them, no chance I’m doing that.”

Speaking to AlterNet about Trump’s deception at the time, psychiatrist Dr. Henry Abraham — a former Tufts University professor who earlier this year led a coalition of three dozen medical professionals to warn Congress about Trump’s apparent cognitive decline — described Trump's actions as revealing a deeper personality and psychological flaw.

“He has narcissistic entitlement because he's the president,” Abraham explained to AlterNet. “He is entitled to be protected, but he's throwing the press corps potentially to the wolves. Is this an unethical behavior? Yes. Is this cowardly? Sure. What is the psychological underpinning of this? Well, his degree of self-absorption and his inability to have empathy with the potential risks, dangers, and suffering of others. That's who he is.”
