President Donald Trump's evident decline is making it impossible for him to not share every thought that passes through his mind, according to conservative commentator Rick Wilson, and as a result, he is shattering major MAGA myths about him and saying things they find "very off-putting."
Wilson is a vocal conservative opponent of Trump and his MAGA agenda, as well as a co-founder of The Lincoln Project. He appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the "Fast Politics" podcast, where he and host Molly Jong-Fast discussed the chaotic and embarrassing week the president just experienced, from the firing of Kimberly Guilfoyle to the cancellation of a livestreamed execution to the brief tenure of White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia.
Wilson suggested that, on top of all that mess, the most potent symbol of the week was another clip that seems to expose Trump's mental decline.
"I mean, to my mind, the weirdest symbol of the whole week was him walking past The Beast, not knowing where he was, just rolling on past the car, walking out into an empty field all by himself," Wilson said. "I'm like, 'Is he going to go out there and put his arms out as the UFO comes down to swoop him up finally?'"
Jong-Fast wondered how conservative media figures would have reacted to a similar incident from former President Joe Biden, to which Wilson said it would have had Fox News asking 24/7, "Is the president mentally competent?"
"Yesterday, I was talking to George Conway, and he's like, My prediction is he's going to make it through the next two years,'" Wilson added. "And I said, 'I don't know what condition he's going to make it through in.' This is a guy who looks like he's really... I mean, when he got to Mar-a-Lago on, I guess it was Friday night, and there was that photograph of him at Mar-a-Lago with the half of his face slouching again; he looked like he was on death's door, knocking aggressively. This guy is not in a good place."
Jong-Fast and Wilson further noted how Trump's decline is making him more and more uninhibited with the things he says publicly, as was evident at recent midterm rallies where he has repeatedly remarked on the attractiveness of Ohio Sen. John Husted and others.
"And he's talking about his butt, he's talking about his jawline, he says he's out of central casting," Jong-Fast said. "I mean, it does feel like... He's not able to not do things anymore."
"He cannot stop his mouth from saying whatever is in his brain," Wilson responded. "He comes right out and lets it rip. And look, one of the things I found most fascinating about this is, this is one of those weird things that MAGA finds very off-putting. They find it very concerning because one of the things they thought that Trump coded for was robust, strict masculinity... But now they're looking around... like, 'Oh, no, he didn't really mean that. He was joking. It was completely just a joke one time that he told four times during the week over and over again about different men.'"
He added: "To my mind, it's more interesting about what it reflects about MAGA masculinity or lack thereof or concern about than about Trump himself, because he is clearly a man in physical and mental decline and s——'s just going to come out of his mouth like crazy in the next couple of months."
