Military leaders are putting together military options for President Donald Trump possible actions against Cuba.
While Trump has rebooted his war in Iran, he's also looking at what's next and they're trying to keep it quiet, CBS News reported on Wednesday.
"Military planners have in recent weeks examined a range of options for possible action against the island, including an Army-led air assault involving thousands of U.S. soldiers to be carried out by the 101st Airborne Division, the only unit trained for such a task, according to multiple U.S. officials with knowledge of the discussions," the report said.
Officials who spoke to CBS News did so anonymously and stressed that there's no final decision by Trump on whether he'll carry out the operation.
The report noted that such an operation would "confront the Pentagon with a significant problem because much of the U.S. military's attention and some of its most valuable offensive capabilities are already committed elsewhere."
In June, the U.S. military met to conduct a "concept-of-operations briefing," which dealt with the early-stage military planning that could involve a Cuba attack, the officials said.
CBS News said that such briefings are "routine" because the military wants to give the president a large range of options and "contingencies."
