Ontario Premier Doug Ford was furious on Monday when he spoke with a local radio station about President Donald Trump's renewed trade war with Canada.
The Toronto Sun reported Ford's comments when speaking Monday morning with Bill Carroll Show on Newstalk 1010.
“Well, he can kiss my a—— as far as I’m concerned,” Ford made clear to Trump.
He also attacked Trump a “bully” as well as “arrogant and cocky."
Speaking to the Associated Press Monday, Ford said, “He underestimates Canada. We’re all in. Up here, we’re at a fever pitch; everyone’s in for an economic war. They know they’re going to have to sacrifice.”
Ford said that Trump has “declared war, economic war against his closest friend and ally."
It's not the first time Ford has unleashed on Trump, even going so far as to threaten to flip the power switch to the United States. That threat came back as Ford explained to the AP, “everything is on the table” if the trade war continues, including cutting off power and minerals from Ontario.
“I’ll cut them off,” Ford said of critical minerals. “You won’t get a grain of sand out of Ontario.”
“We power 1.5 million homes and businesses,” Ford explained. “Everything’s on the table. I’ll do whatever it takes.”
He also said that if Trump continues trying to destroy Canadian manufacturing, Ford said, “he better have a pack of batteries.”
“What would they do without the high-grade nickel that we ship down to the U.S.?” Ford asked.
He also encouraged Canada to consider using oil as leverage, as fuel costs have continued to inch up again amid the Iran war.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that, as of Sept. 8, he would be recommending Canada match “dollar for dollar” each of Trump's 50 percent tariffs, the Sun reported.
According to Trump, who negotiated the previous trade deal with Canada, “Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years."
