President Donald Trump had a bizarre moment at a rally that even comedian John Oliver questioned as evidence that something was seriously wrong with him.
During his Sunday show, Oliver showed a clip of Trump's random "URRPP!" exclamation during the rally in South Carolina for Darline Graham, sister to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R), the Daily Beast called it. Snopes referred to it as "EHHH!"
At the top of the show, before he jumped into his big story, Oliver played the Trump noise. Mid-sentence, the president erupted into a sound that left even those behind him questioning what was happening.
“In South Carolina this week, when he tried to talk up their governor, things, even by his standards, got a bit weird," said Oliver
Trump rambled about former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R), saying that he didn't want her to be governor, so he moved her over to the UN. Then the sound erupted.
“I’m sorry. We all heard it. What was that noise?!” Oliver said, playing the clip. "What was that noise?"
He played it again.
“Yeah, whatever happened there wasn’t good. It feels like a real you need to unplug him and then plug him back in situation ‘cuz that’s not a human sound,” Oliver joked.
He went on, “That’s the noise Eeyore makes when he" climaxes. "That’s a fact. That’s a fact! You don't want him to be happy?"
Oliver then went into his full story, which issued a big warning for the Republican Party that they should stop recruiting Nazis to run for office. He mentioned Peter Oberacker, a Republican candidate for New York’s 19th congressional district who posted a photo of his grandfather on Veterans Day. Except his grandfather was dressed in a Wehrmacht uniform.
“Yeah, not great!” exclaimed Oliver. “If that is the only picture that you have, maybe consider having no pictures of him! You can sit Veterans Day out. No one will think that’s weird.”
“Everything about that screams, ‘Nazi!’” said Oliver, adding, “Well, almost everything. To be fair to the Nazis, unlike Elon, they at least looked sharp in their suits.”
He continued, claiming, “It does feel that the Republican Party has been getting way too comfortable with some, at best, Nazi-adjacent shit,” including Paul Ingrassia, Trump’s nominee to the Office of Special Counsel, who withdrew his nomination after leaked group chat messages revealed him saying, “I do have a Nazi streak in me from time to time, I will admit it.” And Brandon Herrera, a Republican nominee for Texas’s 23rd congressional district, who posted a YouTube video in 2022 where he referred to the MP-40 as “Hitler’s street sweeper,” followed by footage of him and a friend goose-stepping to a Nazi marching song.
