Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) swiped at House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) Thursday "for caring about what happens in locker rooms."

The remarks came during a hearing on a bill based on the theory biological women were being victimized by sharing locker rooms with transgender women.

"I guess it's a good thing that some folks on the other side are now interested in what happens in a locker room, and we're not going to look the other way, okay, I'll accept that," Swalwell began.

The Democratic lawmaker went on to note that transgender people victimizing women in locker rooms was not "a thing."

"This is not a thing, and so I just invite my Democratic colleagues who have so passionately spoken on this to continue to passionately speak on this, but to just reject this as a thing," Swalwell said.

"And thank you for caring about what happens in locker rooms," he added, turning to Jordan.

Jordan has faced scrutiny over allegations about his time as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University from 1987 to 1995. During this period, the university's wrestling program became embroiled in a scandal involving sexual misconduct by Dr. Richard Strauss, a team doctor. Strauss, who worked at Ohio State from the late 1970s to the 1990s, was accused of sexually abusing at least 177 male students, according to a 2019 report by the university.

Several former wrestlers and Ohio State alumni have claimed that Jordan, then a coach, was aware of Strauss's abusive behavior but did not take action to address or report it. Jordan has consistently deniedhaving any knowledge of the abuse at the time, stating that he would have acted if he had been aware of any allegations.
