Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was reportedly convinced that Republicans would blindly follow and support former President Donald Trump regardless of the circumstances, according to a new book.

In the new book titled, “The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021,” journalists Susan Glasser and Peter Baker shared details about a previous conversation they'd had with the South Carolina lawmaker, reports HuffPost.

“Trump could kill 50 on our side and it wouldn’t matter,” Graham told the two journalists.

The remarks are said to have been a play on Trump's own comments when he boasted about his influence over the Republican Party during his 2016 presidential campaign.

At the time, the former president, per HuffPost, claimed "he was so popular he 'could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue, shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters.'”

The book also discussed the impeachment inquiry into Trump's infamous phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Per HuffPost, on the call, "Trump appeared to hold back a U.S. arms delivery that had been approved by Congress unless the new Ukrainian leader agreed to launch a baseless investigation into Trump’s expected 2020 presidential rival, Joe Biden, and his son Hunter Biden."

However, the news outlet notes that Graham was "not completely naive" about the former president. According to a recent report about the new book, Graham even called Trump a “'lying motherf--ker' in relation to the Ukraine call."

Despite criticizing the former president, Graham also insisted he was "lot of fun to hang out with.” Glasser and Baker's book is scheduled to be released next week.
