'Lacks principle': Liz Cheney torches 'chameleon' Ted Cruz over his attack on the FBI

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) offered a critical assessment of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for his lack of principles describing him as a “chameleon who will say anything, anytime.”
On Tuesday, August 30, the Republican lawmaker took to Twitter with a message to her followers about Cruz. "Understanding @ isn’t difficult," Cheney tweeted. "He lacks principle and has always been a chameleon who will say anything, anytime. He thinks he’s so smart no one can see through him. Ted, we can. All of us can."
According to HuffPost, it remains unclear what led to Cheney's remarks but the news outlet noted that it did follow "a video on Twitter, in which Cruz is seen attacking the FBI over its investigation of former President Donald Trump and his handling of classified materials."
The clip, which was reportedly filmed at a recent rally in Georgia, features highlights of Cruz's remarks calling for a “complete housecleaning” of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and scrutinizing the agency's search at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate as a “horrific abuse of power.”
The Texas senator responded to Cheney's remarks with a subliminal, dismissive tweet.
The latest exchange between Cheney and Cruz comes more than a week after the FBI's search of the compound where agents recovered more than a dozen boxes. Per the news outlet, the U.S. Department of Justice noted that the boxes were marked as "highly classified and dealt with secrets that if revealed publicly could cause 'exceptionally grave' damage to U.S. interests."
Republicans have since escalated their fury at the FBI, and President Joe Biden is seizing on the right-wing's disparagement of law enforcement.

When he appeared at an event in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Biden slammed the GOP's inflammatory rhetoric.
“It’s sickening to see the new attacks on the FBI. Threatening the lives of law enforcement agents and their families for simply carrying out the law and doing their job,” Biden said. “I’m opposed to defunding the police. I’m also opposed to defunding the FBI.”
