Watch: Mary Trump offers blistering assessment of Trump's dangerous actions toward Pence on Jan. 6

Former President Donald Trump “'handed down a death sentence to Mike Pence' because he knew 'the only way to get what he wanted' was for the 'worst possible events to unfold'" during the siege on the U.S. Capitol, Mary Trump noted, according to HuffPost.
Speaking to MSNBC's Katie Phang on Friday, June 17, Mary Trump weighed in with a blistering assessment of her uncle's actions on Jan. 6 of last year as the House Select Committee continues its investigation.
“We need to be very blunt about what happened,” Mary Trump said on Friday. Refusing to make light of her uncle's behavior, she also said that Trump “wasn’t just stirring up his insurrectionists to create chaos" and that he'd "handed down a death sentence to Mike Pence.”
According to Mary Trump, when Pence refused to help the former president move his political agenda forward, he was left with very few options. Being backed into a corner, he may have resorted to more drastic and “absolutely radical” measures such as “declaring martial law.”

Mary Trump also noted that the “death of his vice president” would have given the former president the ability to do that.

Her interview with Phang came just one day after her discussion with MSNBC's Lawrence O’Donnell. During that discussion, she highlighted the moment when Donald Trump realized things would not go as he'd hoped: when someone “'as weak and sycophantic as Mike Pence' had the 'audacity' to go against him."
She emphasized that Pence's response is something “Donald isn’t going to take,” Trump said. “What people need to understand is that Donald doesn’t believe he should be denied anything he wants.” At that point, Trump was convinced "the only way for him to get what he wanted was for the worst possible events to unfold in the Capitol,” she said.

Despite Pence's endangerment on the day of the Capitol insurrection and his public pushback against the former president, Mary Trump has made it clear that he still should not be considered a hero.
“Mike Pence is not a hero. He did the right thing on January 6th but only after exploring every way to avoid doing so,” she tweeted Thursday. “He doesn’t even have the guts to testify in front of the committee.”
