Rep. Ronny Jackson of Texas is among the MAGA Republicans who promoted the Big Lie at for President Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s January 6 select committee is hoping to question him about that day’s events. But Jackson, according to KVII-TV (the ABC affiliate in Amarillo, Texas), is refusing to answer questions from the committee.

Jackson was mentioned in communications between members of the far-right militia group the Oath Keepers. On Monday, May 2, the select committee tweeted letters it sent to Jackson, Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona and Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama, asking them to answer questions. And the questions the committee wanted to ask Jackson, according to KVII’s Jacob Helker, ranged from “Why would these individuals have an interest in your specific location?” to “Why would they believe you have 'critical data' to protect?” to “With whom did you speak by cell phone that day?”

Jackson, however, didn’t want to answer any of those questions.

In response to the committee’s request, Jackson’s office said, “I do not know, nor did I have contact with, those who exchanged text messages about me on January 6.”

Jackson’s office, in the response, described the select committee as “malicious and non-substantive” and called its investigation a “witch hunt” and a “coordinated attempt to do the media’s work on taxpayers’ dime.”

Jackson’s office wrote, “Their attempt to drag out a manufactured narrative illustrates why the American people are sick of the media and this partisan Committee’s use of January 6 as a political tool against conservatives they do not like. For these reasons, I will not participate in the illegitimate Committee’s ruthless crusade against President Trump and his allies.”

On January 6, 2021 at 12:51 PM, Jackson tweeted his support for Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally:

But at 3:12 PM that day, he posted:

The select committee offered to meet with Jackson on Monday, May 9.
