MSNBC's Chris Hayes is slamming Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for his latest attempt to downplay the severity of the January 6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

On Wednesday, February 9, Hayes weighed in on Cruz's appearance on Fox News with primetime host Tucker Carlson; an appearance he describes as "utterly humiliating." During the appearance, Hayes claims the Texas senator attempted to "beg for forgiveness” from the conservative host after accurately describing the deadly insurrection as a “terrorist attack.”

In contrast, Carlson has spewed countless right-wing conspiracies theories about the series of events that transpired that day. He even defended the angry mob of Trump supporters who endangered the lives of law enforcement and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Haynes did not hold back in his criticism of Cruz for continuing to grovel and seek forgiveness from Carlson.

“Today, he is, of course, out attacking Mitch McConnell, which is the point of all of this conditioning that those folks are up to, hoping Trump or Tucker’s watching, and will tell him that he’s a good boy,” he said.

Cruz's latest conversation with Carlson came just days after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) faced sharp criticism from the right-wing after he, too, described Jan. 6 as “a violent insurrection.” Pivoting from his own remarks, Cruz claimed McConnell is echoing "the political propaganda of Democrats.”

Reacting to that remark, Hayes mocked Cruz saying, “Doing great, Ted! Maybe he’ll have you on tonight.”
