Florida's Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis may be a Republican leader of interest for the 2024 presidential election, but for now, he's trying to shoot down the speculation.

This week, the Republican governor appeared on Fox News with primetime host Sean Hannity where he was asked about the possibility of running for president in 2024. DeSantis claimed to have no interest in running for president because he is working on issues in his state, including making sure "people are not supporting critical race theory."

According to Business Insider, critical race theory is defined as "an academic theory that holds that American institutions — including the criminal justice system, housing, and educational systems — remain systemically racist." However, Republican leaders and lawmakers have attempted to depict the academic framework in a negative light arguing "that liberal school systems are teaching white American kids that they're racist."

In fact, DeSantis has even argued that CRT is "the teaching of 'false history' that would 'denigrate the Founding Fathers,'" Insider reports. During the interview, DeSantis went on to explain why he's more interested in seeking re-election in his state next year.

"I'm not considering anything beyond doing my job. We got a lot of stuff going on in Florida. I'm going to be running for reelection next year," he told Hannity on Wednesday.

DeSantis also discussed some of the issues he is faced with within the state of Florida. "We are also working on a lot of things in the state beyond the governor's race. We got school board races," DeSantis said. "I want to make sure people are not supporting critical race theory, making sure that parents have the ability to send their kid to school the way they want to."
