Footage of the 12-story building that collapsed in Surfside, Fla., is going viral on social media as onlookers share their opinion about the harrowing incident.
According to the Miami Herald, the oceanfront condominium tower suffered a partial collapse in the early hours of Thursday, June 24. Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett confirmed more than 70 of the building's 130 units were destroyed and approximately 35 survivors were pulled out of the debris.
A total of 10 victims were treated by first responders at the scene while two others were transported to a local hospital. So far, only one person has been confirmed dead but local authorities believe this number will rise as the building is assessed.

It collapsed like every multi story building. When the bottom collapses first the following stories fold in on each other. It\u2019s the most common way for a building to collapse. No conspiracy. Just physics— Mr. Moderate (@Mr. Moderate) 1624542999
Horrifying! Would a national bill on infrastructure be able to prevent situations like this or that pedestrian bridge collapse the other day by providing more funding to inspect/fix or condemn buildings and roadways not up to standard?— Frazier Thomas (@Frazier Thomas) 1624543414
I feel for the people in the part of the building to the far right. The last part to go down. They must have woken and known something was very wrong. Helpless to do anything about it.— Bobson Dugnutt (@Bobson Dugnutt) 1624543510
