'Spineless McWorm': New York Daily News delivers stinging rebuke of Mitch McConnell with mocking nickname

New York Daily News took aim at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) with its scorching new front cover.
On Saturday, May 30, the publication debuted a mocking cover that featured an image of the Kentucky lawmaker with a scathing headline that read, "Spineless McWorm," with a sub-caption that read, "Mitch & His GOP Cowards KO Riot Probe."

The publication's latest cover came shortly after the top-ranking Republican lawmaker aligned with pro-Trump Republican lawmakers to block the bipartisan piece of legislation aiming to establish an independent commission to further investigate the Jan.6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol; the disturbing and deadly incident that led to Trump's second impeachment for incitement of riots, Huff Post reports.
The latest cover is the second one to be released over the last two weeks. On May 19. the publication took aim at McConnell with an image depicting him as a lap dog for former President Donald Trump. The caption for that image read, "Trump's Li'l Mitch Lapdog pol protects Don from riot probe."

Although Trump is no longer in office, many Republican lawmakers are still refusing to distance from him and his rhetoric out of fear that they will lose the support of his base.
