Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is ranting yet again about gun rights arguing that gun restrictions would infringe upon Americans' Second Amendment rights. However, Twitter users have quickly fired back with arguments pushing back against Cruz's claims.

On Thursday, April 8, the Texas senator took to Twitter with a statement arguing that the right to bear arms is essential for the preservation of America's liberty. He also shared what he believes is the right approach to combat gun violence.

"The right to keep and bear arms is fundamental for preserving our liberty," Cruz tweeted. "The answer is not to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, the answer is to go after violent criminals and come down on them like a ton of bricks."

With the recent mass shootings that have taken place in different parts of the United States, lawmakers are once again debating over the right approach to combat gun violence. Lawmakers have expressed completely opposite perspectives. While Democratic lawmakers are advocating national gun control, Republican lawmakers are looking to expand access to firearms, according to USA Today.

Twitter users quickly weighed in to remind Cruz of lawmakers' perspectives and what Democrats mean by gun control. A former veteran tweeted, "You sold out on defending liberties when you allow organizations like the NRA pay you thousands of dollars. Your values don't mean a damn thing except greed."
