Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) is facing criticism for his seemingly abrupt change of heart regarding the $1.9 trillion stimulus package he previously opposed and voted against.

On Tuesday, March 30, Cawthorn posted a series of tweets happily announcing the COVID relief funds that arrived in his state of North Carolina.

He tweeted, "Happy to announce that NC-11 was awarded grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. -Appalachian Mountain Community Health Centers was given $2,458,000 -Western North Carolina Community Health Services Inc. was given $4,622,375."

Cawthorn added, "Bakersville Community Medical Clinic Inc. was given $1,771,125 -Blue Ridge Community Health Services Inc. was given $10,473,250 Proud to see tax-payer dollars returned to NC-11."

The tweets have caught the attention of many Twitter users. In February, Cawthorn aligned with House Republican lawmakers voting against American Rescue Plan Act. He also tweeted that the stimulus package was nothing more than a "Pelosi Payoff."

Twitter users wasted no time reminding Cawthorn how he previously condemned the bill he is now raving about. One Twitter user had a message for Cawthorn's constituents. She tweeted, "Hey guys, if this bozo is your Congressman, please be aware he voted against all of this. You owe him no thank you for it. None at all. He thought you should get nothing, but now he want you to give him credit for what you get. Pretty lame Congressman, huh?"

Cawthorn is one of multiple Republicans who have attempted to play both sides of the fence by lauding the Democrat-backed same package they voted against. After the bill was passed, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and many other Republican lawmakers are now working to help their constituents access the same funding they previously opposed.
