White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley was apparently confused by a question a reporter asked about Russia on Tuesday — and earned himself the scorn of Twitter.

CNBC White House correspondent Eamon Javers noted on Twitter that when he asked Gidley if President Donald Trump will “accept Russian help in the 2020 election,” the deputy press secretary replied: “I don’t understand the question.”

As Daily Beast reporter Sam Stein noted, the website “asked every 2020 candidate if they would commit to not using hacked materials.”

“The Trump campaign was the only one who didn’t take that pledge,” Stein added.

“When did you ‘denounce’ their involvement?” another user mused. “He’s asked for their help…we have video proof.”
