Trump’s Top Surrogate Can’t Vote for Him - Because He’s a Registered Democrat

Election '16

Earlier this week, Trump’s children Ivanka and Don revealed that they can’t vote for their father in the primary because they aren’t registered Republicans. Now prominent Trump surrogate Michael Cohen is revealing that he can’t vote for Trump either because he is registered as a Democrat.

Cohen currently serves as special counsel to Trump and is the executive vice-president of the Trump Organization. He’s never hidden that he is a Democrat and spoke openly about supporting Barack Obama in 2008.

NN hosts John Berman and Kate Bolduan were shooting their morning show outside the Democratic debate site taking place in Brooklyn, New York Thursday night. The discussion was about RNC chair Reince Priebus and the rules for delegates and nominating process.

“I’m actually a registered Democrat, so I don’t really care about Reince Priebus,” Cohen explained.

“Wait! You can’t vote?!” Berman asked.

“You’re not voting for Donald Trump?!” Bolduan exclaimed.

“Not in the primary,” Cohen said blowing it off.

“So his kids can’t vote, and you can’t vote in the primary,” Berman reasoned.

Oddly enough, Cohen then launched into a conversation about how he wished Trump was his dad. “Well, I’d like to be one of his children,” Cohen told CNN. “I’d like to be one of them, but no, I’m not voting in the primary. I’m a registered Democrat.”

“Man, he’s losing votes from his family and the people who work for him,” Berman said shaking his head.

Cohen attempted to ease Berman’s concerns by explaining Mr. Trump is polling at around 50-plus percent. “This is his hometown.”

New York’s primary election is April 19.
