WATCH: Marco Rubio Says Goodbye to the Campaign Trail, Colbert Says 'Ru-bye-o' to Marco

Election '16

After Donald Trump crushed him by nearly 20 points in Rubio's home state of Florida, Senator Marco Rubio suspended his presidential campaign.

"Yes, Florida senator and boy whose birthday party your parents made you attend, Marco Rubio, has joined the ranks of the fallen and when he dropped out, he was gracious in defeat,” said “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.

“I’m so gracious for all the help you guys have given us. I just want you to know there’s nothing more you could have done,” the junior senator told a crowd at his campaign headquarters in Miami following Tuesday’s disappointing results.

“Well, you could have voted for him. But besides that, no,” Colbert mused.

After a string of third-place victories, Rubio was blindsided by Tuesday’s second-place defeat in Florida. Yesterday, he told reporters that he will not be seeking re-election to the Senate.

"So for the record, Florida votes yes on Jimmy Buffett, yes on releasing pythons into toilets. On Marco Rubio, no thanks,” said Colbert.

The “new Jeb Bush” actually announced he would not be making a play for the 2016 vice presidency, but did anyone who’s still running actually ask?
