The Manti Te'o Fake Dead Girlfriend Saga, as Depicted by Taiwanese Animators

News & Politics

It's that inevitable moment in the arc of any dramatic celebrity saga when the Taiwanese animators swoop in. The latest celeb to get the Taiwanese animation treatment is Notre Dame football player Manti Te'o and his "fake dead girlfriend," Lennay Kekua. For the uninitiated, the story broke when Deadspin published a piece revealing that Kekua, who was believed to have died the same day as Te'o's grandmother, never existed. This means that the widely reported story that Te'o had played this season under the pall of two deaths wasn't strictly true -- though not even Te'o was aware. After much back-and-forth in the media, it now seems that Te'o was the victim of a hoax, and the woman who punked him may have done the same to others. It's a bizarre enough story on its own, but just check out what the animators did with it:
