Jon Stewart Mercilessly Mocks Pro-Gun Right-Wingers Over Obama "Tyranny" Allegations
On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart went to town on Fox Newsers and other right-wingers who are freaking out over the gun measures announced by Obama this week. After working in a quick reference to the Manti Te'o saga, Stewart tore into conservatives who are calling "tyranny" over Obama's call for universal background checks and bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, saying, "1) Those measures enjoy, I believe, majority support in the latest polls, and 2) when tyrants want things done, they generally don't ask their legislative bodies if that would be OK. They tend to process -- what's the word I'm looking for? -- tyrannically."
He then showed clips of right-wingers comparing Obama to Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Saddam Hussein and then making the old, terrible "if only the Jews in Germany had had guns" argument. "I wish armed Jews in the ghetto could've stopped Hitler," Stewart said, "but my feeling is: France couldn't, and I'm pretty sure they had guns. Russia has kind of a lot of guns, and then couldn't stop Hitler until you factored in the wind chill. It's an awful lot to put on an oppressed minority when it took the free world 5 to 6 years of all out total war to stop that motherfucker."
But wait, it gets worse: then he finds clips of right-wingers "wondering" what would've happened if guns had been in the hands of Black slaves (wow) and... wait for it... MLK. "Yeah, how did he die again?" Stewart muses. "You're confusing tyranny with the unpleasant burning sensation of losing democratic elections, which we just had."
