President Joe Biden on Tuesday briefly sparred with the press gaggle over the debt ceiling debacle after his meeting with United States House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) yielded no net progress on a deal to avoid a default.

"But in terms of what he is proposing, is there any room for negotiation?" a reporter wondered.

"What's he proposing? Did he tell you?" Biden replied of McCarthy, whose proposal includes numerous demands for massive spending reductions on social programs. Crucially, though, Republicans are refusing to consider unconditionally raising the Treasury Department's arbitrary borrowing cap.

"Well, he, he talked about..." the female correspondent continued.

"No, no, I'm not being facetious. Did he tell you what he's proposing?" Biden reiterated.

"He, he was talking about the bill," the reporter said.

"Yeah, but what, what does it propose? Do you know? I'm not being a wise guy. You all are very, very informed people. Do you know what that bill cuts?" Biden asked again, hinting at why he and McCarthy remain at an impasse.

"He, there is a long list of things that it, it cuts that he..." the individual replied.

"No, no, it doesn't say. Does it say what it's gonna cut or just say generically it's gonna cut?" Biden stressed. "You get the problem."
