'Unified Reich': Biden campaign slams Trump for German slogan embedded in campaign video
Former President Donald Trump faced condemnation Monday after sharing a video in support of his reelection campaign in which appear the words "Unified Reich."
President Joe Biden's campaign shared posted Monday night a screen shot of the video that appears to be a Truth Social post from Trump.
"Trump posts a new ad foreshadowing a second Trump term that says he will create a 'UNIFIED REICH,'" the message reads, "echoing Nazi Germany."
The words appear in grey under two mock headline banners, one that asks "What's next for America?" and another that declares "MAGA!!"
The Associated Press reports the 30-second video went live while the former president was in court.
“This was not a campaign video," Karoline Leavitt, the campaign press secretary, told the Associated Press. "It was created by a random account online and reposted by a staffer who clearly did not see the word, while the President was in court."
While the word “Reich” is often associated with Nazi Germany, the term in the pro-Trump video appears to reference the formation of the pan-German nation in 1871, according to the Associated Press.
"While seeking to portray President Joe Biden as soft on antisemitism, [Trump] has himself repeatedly faced criticism for using language and rhetoric associated with Nazi Germany," the Associated Press reports.
Political podcaster Jon Favreau shared Biden's tweet with his own take on the apparent blunder.
"I'm sure it was just an oversight - all kinds of phrases autocorrect to "UNIFIED REICH," he wrote.
