'Republicans in peril': Fox News host slams 'do-nothing' GOP over border bill flub

When a bipartisan deal tying enhanced U.S./Mexico border security to military aid to Ukraine fell apart in the U.S. Senate, Never Trump conservatives — including MSNBC's Joe Scarborough — were quick to blame MAGA Republicans. Scarborough argued that the Biden Administration was quite willing to offer major compromises and meet Republicans in Congress more than half way, but the "extreme crazy MAGA right" wouldn't move an inch.

Efforts to get border security and Ukraine aide passed have not only run into problems with Senate Republicans — they have also encountered resistance from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), who Scarborough has been vehemently critical of.

Not all of the criticism on the right, however, is coming from Never Trumpers.

On Wednesday, February 14, Fox News' Brit Hume said of a border bill and Ukraine aid, "I think these are a couple of issues that put Republicans in peril of looking like literally a do-nothing Congress, which you can bet is something the Biden Administration is going to be talking about going forward — and the Biden campaign as well."

Hume argued that GOP hardliners tanked "the strongest border protection bill that I've seen in my time in Washington," adding, "The House simply announced it was not going to take it up, so it failed even in the Senate."
