Frontpage news and politics

President Donald Trump declared on Monday that although America has "won" in the Iran war he started, it has not yet "won enough" — and his wishy-washiness is being noticed and mocked online.

For example, an X user who goes by Adam Langriyal posted that he did not accept Trump's attempts to play up the Iran war.

"Trump was the first President of the USA dumb enough to bomb Iran for Israel," Langriyal said. "The Epstien files indicate rhat they had some pretty damning stuff on him that made it impossible for him to say No."

Another X user, going merely by WM, shared a meme from the 2012 movie "Django Unchained" in which Leonardo DiCaprio laughs at a joke. "Hanging on the daily word of Trump still 😔," WM posted. The shared post noted that Trump seems to be withdrawing "in a rush from yet another conflict without a strategy."

These comments reacted to Trump's Monday speech to Republican lawmakers at a House policy retreat in Miami. In that address he said that "we’ve already won in many ways, but we haven’t won enough. We go forward more determined than ever to achieve ultimate victory that will end this long-running danger once and for all.”

Vowing to entirely wipe out Iran's political and military leadership, Trump argued that “now nobody has any idea who the people are that are going to be the head of the country," ignoring Iran's decision to anoint Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the recently-assassinated supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as their new chief executive. “And we will not relent until the enemy is totally and decisively defeated.”

Despite these vows, Trump also characterized the war as a “short-term excursion" and told lawmakers that the United States needed “to get rid of some evil."

"Together with our Israeli partners, we're crushing the enemy in an overwhelming display of technical skill and military force,” Trump said. “Iran's drone and missile capability is being utterly demolished. The Navy is gone. It's all lying at the bottom of the ocean. 46 ships. Can you believe it?" He argued that ultimately the campaign would end quickly and decisively in America's favor.

Many X users did not believe Trump's assertion that the Iran war will be wrapped up quickly. Someone simply known as "7" joked that "if the Trump regime sends me a draft letter, I’m now transgender and addicted to fentanyl." A user known as Brane Mijatovic quipped in response to Trump's statement that America is "achieving major strides toward completing our military objectives" that "the military objectives that change every day." In a parallel vein a user called Gritty Apostle reminded X users of Vice President JD Vance's promise to keep America out of foreign wars, describing this as "the ultimate betrayal of the MAGA voter base."

Perhaps summing up these sentiments was an X user called Rocket Trade, who said "Uncle Trump ..if you keep screaming these lies...they will remain lies."
