Although U.S. President Donald Trump is saying that the United States' military operation in Iran will likely be wrapped up soon, many of his critics aren't so sure and fear that it could turn into a "forever war" if ground troops are sent into Iran.

One of those critics is The Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson, a Never Trump conservative and former GOP strategist. During a "Fast Politics" video with liberal co-host Molly Jong-Fast posted on YouTube on Sunday night, April 19, Wilson argued that U.S. military leaders distrust Trump during wartime.

When Jong-Fast told Wilson that "the military just doesn't trust this administration for any number of reasons," she got no argument from the anti-Trump conservative — who drew a distinction between the "political DC interface part of the military that's having to deal with Hegseth" and "the operational guys."

"These are not the four-star generals," Wilson said of the "operational" U.S. military. "They're the brigadier generals and the senior colonels in the operational commands, right? These guys don't play around. They are serious people. They've been given a mission; they're going to execute the mission."

Wilson continued, "They were assigned to rescue this ground weapon system officer. And so, they were going to handle it. And they were not going to let even the president of the United States mess it up. Because there was a real belief that he would…. either order them to do something stupid or leak it. And either one of those scenarios would have resulted in that F-15 back-seater either being dead or being an Iranian hostage. And they realized that. It should tell you a lot that people who are actually on the pointy end of the stuck with our military do not trust the commander-in-chief."
