Trump promotes 'voting early' despite years of attacks on absentee ballots

The Republican National Committee launched a new ad on Wednesday ahead of the first 2024 presidential primary debate encouraging GOP voters to cast absentee ballots as criminally indicted party frontrunner former President Donald Trump continues to peddle his debunked claims that President Joe Biden did not win the 2020 election (he did).
The spot, featuring Trump, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, ex-Vice President Mike Pence, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez (R), United States Representative Byron Donalds (R-Florida), as well as Senators Bill Hagerty (R-Tennessee) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), comes amid a "Bank Your Vote" effort, according to Mediaite's Alex Griffing.
Christina Cassidy of the Associated Press reported in June that the project is an "aggressive get-out-the-vote campaigns for 2024 that employ just those strategies, attempting to match the emphasis on early voting Democrats have used for years to lock in many of their supporters well ahead of Election Day."
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?
Cassidy noted at the time that "it marks a notable shift from the party’s rhetoric since 2020," when Trump was "routinely sowing doubt about mail voting and encouraging his voters to wait and vote in-person on Election Day. As recently as last year, Republican activists peddling the stolen election narrative were telling GOP voters who received mail ballots to hold onto them and turn them in at their polling place on Election Day rather than use mail or drop boxes."
The thirty-second video begins with McDaniel saying, "When Republicans vote early, we win."
Next, Pence states that "you can bank your vote by casting your ballot before Election Day," to which Suarez adds, "either early, in-person, or by mail."
Trump then tells viewers to "go to bankyourvote.com to sign up and commit to voting early."
