President Donald Trump and Tesla/Space X head Elon Musk are both calling for primary challenges in response to how U.S. senators vote on the president's "big, beautiful bill." But while Trump is calling for primary challenges against any GOP senator who votes against the bill, Musk wants to primary Republicans who vote for it — as the bill, Musk warns, will greatly add to the United States' federal deficit.

Early Tuesday morning, July 1, the U.S. Senate continued to debate the bill's merits, with Trump trying to pressure Republicans into voting "yes." Trump spoke to reporters outside the White House that morning, often expressing his animosity for former ally Musk.

Trump said of Musk, "He's upset. He's losing his EV mandate, and he's upset. He's very upset about things. But you know, he could lose a lot more than that. I can tell you right now. Elon could lose a lot more than that."

Trump also ranted, "DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn't that be terrible?"

When The Daily Mail's Emily Goodin asked Trump if he would consider deporting South Africa native Musk, he responded, "I don't know. We'll have to take a look."

The U.S. president expressed confidence that the U.S. Senate will pass his megabill. And he noted the so-called "Alligator Alcatraz" detention facility in Florida, telling reporters, "Snakes are fast, but alligators are — we're going to teach them how to run away from an alligator. OK? If they escape prison, how to run away. Don't run in a straight line."

Trump also slammed Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, telling reporters, "I think he's terrible. He's a communist. The last thing we need is a communist…. I think he's bad news…. Frankly, I've heard he's a total nutjob. I think the people of New York are crazy."

Mamdani is not a communist, but rather, identifies as a "democratic socialist."

Trump's comments on Musk are receiving a lot of comments on the Musk-owned X, formerly Twitter.

CNN's Hadas Gold tweeted, "wow - TRUMP: 'We might have to put DOGE on Elon.... DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon."

Goodin weighed in as well, posting, "Here is the full quote from President Trump when I asked him if he’ll deport Elon Musk: 'I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look. We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.'"

X user Sergio Ramshackle commented, "All of you asking for the video/audio… what’s your rationalization/talking point now? 'Oh it’s just the way he talks.' ?? Is that the flavor of the day… or are you waiting to hear the spin later and then just mimic it all later?"

Another X user, Noble Prize in Sarcasm, wrote, "There is some upside to having a lawless buffoon as President."

Lib Dunk remarked, "Deporting naturalized citizens is just the next natural step in this admin's march towards full-blown fascism."

Too Weak Taco wrote, "Maybe Elon on his way out will let us know how they played with the votes in 2024 to get Trump elected!"
