A Republican voter slammed President Donald Trump for veering off the path of prioritizing voters on MS NOW this week with his proposed $1.8 billion slush fund for people allegedly weaponized by the government.
“They're calling a slush fund for Republicans is, you know, people who have been in trouble before. I mean, I understand that, but sI till don't like the look of him taking public money to do that.”
“We got enough going on with everything going on with the fraud in the country,” said the voter, who lives in Suffern, NY, territory manned by moderate Republican House Rep. Mike Lawler. “Do we really need to be wasting money like this in this way? It's just another way to waste money. I mean, this is our taxpayer money. It should be going to the citizens for what they need. You know, don't these wealthy people have enough money already?”
The MS NOW reporter pointed out to the voter that Lawler’s district is a “very swingy part of the state” and that Democrats are on the hunt for Lawler’s seat. He then asked if the voter was “concerned …that Trump could hurt Republicans’ chances of holding on to places like this.”
“I think it could. Sure,” the voter said. “I mean, as I said, it's just no money anywhere. All of a sudden, you know, and people are struggling. You got the gas prices and there's just government craziness still going on. You know, we need to get back to basics and just take care of the country, and do the things we need.”
MS NOW anchor Katy Tur pointed out that President Donald Trump is in New York on Friday, just outside the city in Rockland County, where that voter lives.
“Trump is there to promote Mike Lawler, who, as you just heard from that voter, is in one hell of a fight to keep his congressional seat. And he is not alone,” said Tur. “There are others who are taking on water. So many, in fact, that one Republican Senator told punchbowl News “Our majority is melting. It's melting down before our eyes.”
