During Joe Biden's presidency, right-wing media outlets like Fox News and Newsmax focused relentlessly on his mental acuity — often echoing Donald Trump's "Sleepy Joe" rhetoric and claiming that Biden was mentally unfit for the White House. But MAGA media, on the whole, carefully avoid discussion of Trump's physical and mental health. And according to conservative attorney George Conway, it isn't unreasonable to be asking questions about the fact that President Trump has been falling asleep in meetings.

Conway, in a Thursday, August 13 post on X, formerly Twitter, makes his point by highlighting CNN host Erin Burnett's recent interview with Dr. Jonathan Reiner — who served as the late Vice President Dick Cheney's cardiologist for 27 years.

Reiner is being outspoken about Trump's health, emphasizing that his administration needs to be much more forthcoming about his physical and mental state — and pointing out that Cheney, during his eight years in the George W. Bush administration, was quite transparent about his long history of heart disease.

Reiner, on CNN, candidly told Burnett, "The president doesn't look well. He hasn't looked well for much of the last year. He has perhaps the most consequential job on the planet…. Maybe most disturbingly to me, for the last several months, he has fallen asleep in the Oval Office and in other very public venues over and over and over again."

Conway, in his tweet, noted Reiner's comments on Trump's pattern of falling asleep in meetings.

Conway tweeted, "@JReinerMD asks a pretty good question here: 'Why is it acceptable in this country at this time — in this perilous time — for the president of the United States to have a dramatic problem staying awake?'"

Conway is known for being one of Trump's most vehement critics on the right as well as a prominent figure in the conservative legal movement.

In the past, Conway was heavily involved with the Federalist Society — a conservative legal group that played a key role in moving the U.S. Supreme Court to the right. But Conway believes that Trump and the MAGA movement have been terrible for conservatism, and after spending most of his adult life as a registered Republican, he expressed his disdain for Trumpism by leaving the GOP.

Conway was a strong promotor of Biden's campaign in 2020, making it clear that despite some disagreements with Democrats, he believed that Biden was much better qualified for the White House than Trump. Then, in 2024, Conway was among the conservatives who aggressively campaigned for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. However, the attorney's ex-wife, GOP strategist Kellyanne Conway, however, was a close ally of Trump during his first presidency.
