One of the evangelical Christians who backed President Donald Trump is now saying he might be "demon possessed."
On Sunday, President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated image depicting himself as Jesus Christ. It was an image that initially came from a Trump-endorsed Republican candidate in North Carolina, with some notable changes. In Trump's version, one of the soldiers in the clouds representing Heaven was changed to look like a demon. As of Monday late morning, the post was taken down.
After the meme went up, Pastor Joel Webbon posted on X, "I genuinely believe Trump is currently demon possessed."
Webbon, the president and founder of Right Response Ministries, a self-proclaimed Christian nationalist, claimed on a podcast that the United States is solely for Christians.
"It's not for Hindus. It's not for Muslims. And it's not for Jews. It belongs to Christians," he said, according to The Christian Post.
Webbon also doesn't believe that women should have the right to vote, and Jews should not be allowed to hold any public offices in the U.S.
Yet, on Monday, he kicked off his X show with the question, "Is Donald Trump The Anti-Christ?"
"Donald Trump has lost his ever-loving mind," Webbon said. "Maybe he's possessed by a demon. Maybe he's always been this way. To some extent, I know that's true. He's done some good things, and so a lot of good people, a lot of good conservatives are inclined to defend him and overlook some of his narcissism from the past."
Webbon said that it's different for Trump to post photos of himself with Jesus over his shoulder. In this case, Trump was painting himself as the second coming of Christ.
"And this is posted by, probably one of his staffers, but regardless, it's from his TruthSocial account," continued Webbon. "Yes, it's blasphemy. This is blasphemous. Trump looking like Jesus healing some Jeffrey Epstein-looking dude sitting there on the bottom. And yes, for the record, we're not going to go deep into it, but the angels in the clouds that are supposedly fallen soldiers, who are kind of standing in affirmation in support of him, one of them in the middle, you can see one of them in the middle — it's like they were trying to go for this cross between a fallen soldier-slash-angle-slash-Statue of Liberty, but it turned out pretty bad. It turned out to be a known demonic figure. It has several implications It's not the Statue of Liberty."
He said that he thinks it's probably an "accident," but, regardless, "it's not a good look."
"Trump has lost his mind," he added.
